Orpheus One: a lunar ecumenopolis. Founded in 2030, the city is the biggest in human history. Above the gleaming metal towers of this city, there are expansive orbital infrastructures, the largest of which is the Ring[1]. The Ring is an enormous linkage of O’Neill Cylinders[2] into a vast mega structure that encircles the entire moon-billions of people live in the Ring. A huge orbital laser array protects the city from physical attack. The LUNAS AI is the first ever self-aware AI in human history, and is located on top of the Pyramid, the seat of the Collective’s power.

Orpheus One incorporates two main types of energy production: solar and antimatter. Because the moon has no atmosphere, solar panels are far more productive and efficient in the production of energy, so they are used on a small scale to power streetlights, public lighting, and electric appliances. Antimatter power plants[3] are the main source of power for Orpheus One. Antimatter power plants are scattered across the moon to provide cheap, abundant energy for every household and person in Orpheus One. These plants get their fuel, antimatter, from special antimatter factories that are given raw material and, through subatomic manipulation of atoms and molecules, create antimatter. When antimatter comes into contact with regular matter, the collision releases pure energy, powering trillions of lights across Orpheus One.

Orpheus One is a self-sufficient city, due to its underground infrastructure and copious amounts of energy production and space mining activities. It exports rare materials throughout the solar system and is a mining hub for many space mining companies, including the Space Mining Company (SMC), the largest mining company in the solar system. The city also exports all sorts of metamaterials such as graphene[4], carbon nanotubes[5], and other advanced composites.

The population of Orpheus One requires food, water, air, and shelter to survive. Food and water are produced in gigantic quantities by transmutation[6] factories, and air is directly pumped to everywhere directly from a factory. Radiotrophic fungi[7], fungi that eat gamma rays, are installed in buildings so that people are protected from intense radiation. These fungi are also harvested as food periodically.

The citizens of Orpheus One have many ways to get to space. There are 4 space elevators[8] on Orpheus One, and innumerable mass drivers scattered on the surface of the metal world. Its 200,000 mile high space elevators are made of advanced metamaterials, and are anchored deep into the crust of the moon. A single elevator is located on top of the Pyramid, seat of Collective power and the home of the LUNAS AI-and the most powerful transmitter in history. The elevator consists of multiple compartments that are propelled upwards with the elevator line as the guider, through a monopropellant[9] particle-based system.

Orpheus One has a city-wide system of hypersonic maglev[10] trains that crisscross the gleaming metal towers of the moon every day, bringing goods and people to where they need to be. These trains are levitated in a vacuum to reduce friction and can reach speeds of up to 100,000 mph, through a inertial drive[11], which reduces/nullifies the effects of g-forces on the human body.

The residents of Orpheus One have excellent, free healthcare, and disease seldom causes death in Orpheus One. Residents receive a special brain chip, which allows them to telepathically interact with their surroundings , and is essential to everyday life. The lifespan of an Orpheus One citizen is essentially limitless, for every person’s minds are uploaded into the cloud[12] and continue their lives as a conscious, human being. They can even take control of an android and live like a normal person . Some people chose to die when their biological bodies wear out, but most do not.

Most Orpheus One citizens, during their free time, use an advanced form of VR, similar to the Matrix, and forms of laser porting13], for entertainment. The society of Orpheus One consists of 11 sectors, each dedicated to one area-technology, metamaterials, research, raw materials, etc. From each sector, there are 7 counties. The social welfare of the city is of key importance. Free healthcare, free insurance, and many other benefits are enjoyed by the populace of Orpheus One.

Orpheus One has a huge industry based on transmutation and space mining. Every day, billions of robots mine the moon and asteroids within the moon’s gravitational pool. There is an almost limitless number of raw materials like rare earth metals, lanthanides, metals, and helium -3.

The government mostly performs energy, administrative, organizational, and governing duties. The government has 4 branches, the Judicial, the Representative, Executive, and R&D branches, which are corresponding to, respectively, The Grand Court, the Senate, the Council, and the OORDA(Orpheus One Research and Development Assembly), as their highest bodies. The Luna Sector is the de-facto government center of Orpheus One.

The city of Orpheus One is a busy place, and even though there is advanced automation, people must work, both to give their lives purpose in a post-scarcity civilization[14], and to supply things unique to humans, such as creativity. People are employed to mostly perform organizational, research, management, and other jobs which require a significant degree of intelligence, independence, and creativity.
Our city makes good use of the environment around them, namely, the Moon. The moon provides two essential resources to the city: pure matter/energy and the gravity of the moon. The considerable material wealth of the Moon is put to good use in antimatter reactors and transmutation machinery in order to provide for the city, while the gravity plays a more subtle role by attracting asteroids and other sources of stray matter into orbit, where they can easily be mined[15] for their materials.

The sectors include:

Core Sectors-The most important sectors of Orpheus One, and home to 2 out of the 4 space elevators of Orpheus One.

Luna Sector:
Capital Sector of Orpheus One, The LUNAS Pyramid, the northern space elevator, the LUNAS AI, and other megastructures.

North Pole Sector:
One of the two space travel and infrastructure hubs of Orpheus One.
Luna Sector is located inside of it.

South Pole Sector:
The other space travel and infrastructure hub of Orpheus One. The southern space elevator is located here.

Tycho Sector: Home to the landing sites of Apollo 12 and 14, the Tycho Sector mostly produces metals and metamaterials.

Tranquility Sector: Home to the sites of Apollo 15, 17, and 11, tourism is rampant in this busy sector. Most of the ecology of Orpheus One is located here. Produces special plants and animals and hub of trade and commerce.
Copernicus Sector: The only near side sector without an Apollo landing site, this sector specializes in the production of gases and non-metallic materials.

Apollo Sector: Home to the landing site of Apollo 16, this sector specializes in the synthetization of radioactive, toxic, and transuranic elements and materials.

Selene Sector: Robotics is the focus of this highly automated sector. Robots of all types are made here, from the grey goo of the Von Neumann probes to simpler robots used in industry. This sector, along with the Galileo Sector, made the first sentient AI, LUNAS.

Orpheus Sector: This sector is responsible for the bulk of space travel machinery and spacecraft. The Ring was designed by this sector and the space elevators that gird Orpheus One were also designed here.

Galileo Sector: The sector that focuses on production of computers and quantum computers and all things computing. This sector is responsible for most of Orpheus One’s advanced computing technology. This sector, along with the Selene Sector, made the first sentient AI, LUNAS.

Coyolxauhqui Sector: The sector that develops and makes most of the advanced equipment that rely on new laws of physics, such as antimatter reactors and transmutation plants. This sector is responsible for most of the power production on Orpheus One. This sector has also made an atom go faster than light in the laboratory.

Generally, the Far side sectors are mostly technology, while the Near Side Sectors are raw goods and materials-there are a couple exceptions.

December 29th, 2021

Logan Trigos
121 Silicon Way
Ares City, FL 21830

Dear Mr. Trigos,

My name is Rebecca Pulmar, Director of the Manufacturing Department of the EU R&D Division. I received your request to purchase a thousand specially designed fusion-based engines in bulk for an overall price of a billion dollars. The order is currently being processed and we will likely be able to deliver the first hundred models within three-and-a-half months. You can either choose to pay in one payment, or split it over 10 different payments of 100 million over the course of 3 years, in 3-and-a-half month increments.

As for your specifications, we believe we have the facilities and infrastructure to manufacture these devices with some significant modifications to our machinery-the cost will be around 100 million dollars, which of there is no need for you to pay. The engines, as requested, will include a special type of fusion reactor designed to run on regular water, and will be at the dimensions of 5 by 5 by 10 meters. We approximate that one of these engines can lift around 15 tons of payload to geostationary orbit, with your EFPS-3 model. Since these engines will be reusable, the profits from asteroid mining will far outweigh the costs of these engines within half a decade.

As for your fears, we will tell you with absolute certainty that there will be no release of this information to the public, and the ongoing threat of war will not interfere in the manufacturing process of the engines-as most of our infrastructure is deep underground. We are aware of the agency you represent, Senior Chairman of the SCI, and we will do our utmost to aid your agency in your mission for the betterment of mankind. I look forward to further cooperation on this matter.

Sincerely,

Rebecca Pulmar, Director, EU R&D Division

The U.S.S. Exodus

The Exodus is an interstellar spacecraft/space station designed to reach Proxima Centuari(4.25 light years away) within less than 20 years, and is a staggering 40 kilometers long and 12 kilometers wide at it’s widest point-the shield. The spacecraft is supposed to support approximately a couple hundred thousand to a million colonists on their journey to the world of Proxima Centuari B. The structure of the expansive ship consists of 4 km thick shielding at the front that protects the entire profile of the ship from debris and cosmic radiation, the 18 km long O’Neill Cylinder that serves as the main habitation of the ship, two huge rotating torus’ attached to the O’Neill Cylinder that houses most of the agriculture that supports the population, the 16 cargo and fuel storage spheres each a kilometer wide that stores fuel, food, water, and other essential goods, the assembly/engine section that is the ‘heart’ of the ship-it includes the antimatter engine, which powers the entire ship, the maintenance robots, and the gear needed for colonization once the ship reaches Proxima Centuari B, and finally, the thruster, which is powered by the steady supply of energy from the antimatter reactor, and pushes the ship forward and onward at a max speed of 0.5c, or half the speed of light, over 93 thousand miles per second. All modules are connected by hypersonic trains that can cross the length of the ship in less than a minute, tops.

The Shield(red thingy)

This part of the ship, 4 is made from advanced meta-materials, such as carbon nanotubes, graphene, and diamond threads. This part of the ship is designed to serve as a barrier between the rest of the ship and debris/radiation in front of it, that, if not properly prepared against, could cause a severe malfunction or catastrophe for the ship and everyone inside. When the ship reaches Proxima Centuari B, this part of the ship will be scrapped and used for raw material to create buildings and equipment. This part of the ship is connected to the O’Neill Cylinder by a thick tube for structural integrity and easy accessibility by the maintenance robots. The hyper-tram lines crisscrossing the ship end at this tube.

The O’Neill Cylinder(orange)

This part of the ship is constructed out of an outside layer of graphene supported by titanium and Kevlar, and is the main habitation area for the colonists/passengers. The cylinder rotates fast enough to produce enough centrifugal force to roughly equal earth gravity-and to avoid any medical problems for passengers throughout the journey. This part of the ship is a whopping 18 kilometers long, and has a radius of 1.5km. The space inside of the cylinder is ample enough to support a million people in comfort. Due to the centrifugal nature of the ‘gravity’ on the cylinder, there is a hyper-tram station every kilometer or so at the very middle of the cylinder, where centrifugal force does not apply. All sorts of trees, animals, and life are carried onboard the cylinder, where they can be introduced to Proxima Centuari B when the ship arrives there. A single artificial river runs through the city in order to make artificial beaches, weather, and a place where people can swim in. The cylinder is connected to the shield, the farming torus’, and the storage spheres.

The Rings(green torus’ attached to the O’Neill Cylinder):

The rings attached to the O’Neill Cylinder serve as the source of food for the million passengers of the Exodus. Just like the O’Neill Cylinder, the rings rotate to cause centrifugal force, which acts like gravity and avoids the complications of growing crops and livestock in zero gravity.
The first ring is mostly crops and plants, and the second ring grows livestock, such as fish, cows, pigs, and poultry. The advanced fertilization, hydroponic, and genetic modification techniques of the rings makes sure that the rings can provide for the passengers of the ship with no issue.
The hyper-tram lines circumnavigate the entirety of the rings and also connect them to the O’Neill Cylinder. Advanced robots care for the crops and livestock every day and use the most efficient ways to maximize yields and maximize available food.

The Storage Spheres(blue balls):

These 16 spheres, each a kilometer in diameter, hold water, fuel, food, and other goods in storage for use at a later time-and also to stockpile resources in case of an emergency. The shielding for these modules is only second to the O’Neill Cylinder, because they hold essential resources and would result in a crisis if they were to be compromised. The spheres are connected at the edges by the hyper-trams-and in fact they are attached around it in order to grant easy access. The most important commodity for the ship is also stored here-antimatter, which is fuel for the reactor, is stored through a magnetic trap which includes a triple-layer emergency contingency support, in order to prevent the antimatter touching the walls of the sphere or any matter, and destroying the ship in a huge explosion.

The Engine/Assembly Section(blue thingy behind the spheres):

This section is the so-called ‘heart’ of the ship-it houses the antimatter reactor that powers the rest of the ship and the thruster, it contains the maintenance robots, and it stores the colonization gear which will be used upon arrival at Proxima Centuari B. This section is over 8km long. When the ship has deposited all it’s colonists, this section will serve as the port/hangar for incoming spacecraft. The hyper-trams run through the middle of this section and stop at the antimatter reactor. If this area were to be damaged, a class-x emergency will be declared and all efforts taken to repair the section as soon as possible. The antimatter reactor within this section works by taking antimatter and annihilating it with matter for a huge release of energy which then can be harnessed to generate power for the entire ship and serve as the engine for the thruster by supplying huge amounts of explosive energy to the back of the ship, accelerating the ship to a significant fraction of the speed of light. If antimatter happens to be scarce, a specialized antimatter factory can synthesize antimatter as needed. This section of the ship also houses the onboard quantum computer AI. The AI can control the maintenance robots and respond to emergencies or other situations.

The Thruster(the hollow blue cone behind the Engine/Assembly Section):

This part of the ship is the thruster, the exhaust cone that pushes the ship towards the stars, and to Proxima Centuari B. The very top of the thruster is connected to the antimatter reactor that powers the entire ship, and some of the explosive energy from the reactor is channeled towards the thruster, and pushes the ship forward at breathtaking speeds. The thruster is composed of highly heat-resistant materials, such as meta-materials, in order to not melt from the catastrophic explosions being channeled through it and out from under it. This part of the ship requires the most maintenance aside from the shield, due to high temperatures from the constant explosions under it. The thruster is approximately 4 km long.

The Auto War:
The conflict between Humanity and the Antarean Nanite Superintelligence, which lasted from 2171, to 2194. The war ended in a difficult victory by humanity. It is actually unknown what caused the ANS to be destroyed. Nevertheless, the damage was so severe that Humanity had to start to expand away from the Sol system afterwards. This war is the only war in which an extraterrestrial intelligence was a belligerent, and in fact, is the only known extraterrestrial intelligence known by the Collective. There is much speculation as to who made the ANS and for what purpose, but all we know is that their creators, if they still exist, are tens of thousands of years older than humanity.
Kardashev Scale:
A scale used to measure space-faring civilizations by their access to energy. Type I civilizations control a planet, Type II controls a star, Type III controls a galaxy, Type IV controls a supercluster of galaxies, Type V controls the Universe, and Type Omega is a civilization that controls multiple universes if they exist. So far, we only know of 2 civilizations, and they are us and the Antareans. Humanity is currently Type 1.7 on the scale, and given that their nanoswarms were able to completely consume a star, the Antareans were likely, at the time of the nano-swarm's construction, a Type 2 civilization.
LUNAS:
The only known self-aware AI in existence. Central nexus is located on top of the capitol Pyramid-formally called Animus.
Cycler:
A rotating spacecraft designed for long term interplanetary voyages. Holds tens of thousands, sometimes hundreds of thousands of people.

The final battle of the War for Sol, where the Luna Orpheus Fleet met and defeated the joint Venusian and Martian fleet and ended the war.
Shield Field:
A protective energy field generated by a Gravity Render Field generator and an energy-repulsive negative energy field generator.

The Standard Exoplanet Scale for Potentially Habitable Exoplanets and Moons.
2/3/2247, Dr. Shawn Trigos.
A potentially habitable exoplanet/moon is classified as a planet/moon which is orbiting in the Goldilocks zone of it’s star or else has some mechanism which allows it to have liquid water and the chemicals needed for life.
9 modular classes of habitable exoplanet/moon, 5 levels of habitability, 5 levels of host life(if existing), 5 levels of intelligent life/civilizations(if existing), and 4 categories of host star.
C or Continental: Planet/moon with seasons, continents, and large oceans
Example: Earth.
T or Twilight: Tidally locked planet/moon with extreme heat on one side and extreme cold on the other, with a thin band of habitable land at the terminator.
Example: Proxima Centauri B.
O or Oceanic: Planet/moon with almost no land and mostly oceans.
Example: Possibly Kepler 62e.
D or Desert: Planet/moon with little to no large bodies of water.
Example: Mars in the past.
E or Eyeball: tidally locked planet/moon with two sub-varieties, hotter and colder, hotter with the side facing away from the star habitable, the other a scorching desert, colder with the side facing the star habitable, and a inhabitable icy other side.
Example: Possibly TRAPPIST-f.
I or Icy: Planet/moon with surface primarily of ice.
Example: Europa
L or Large: Super-earth, high gravity planet/moon with more than double mass and radius of Earth.
Example: Possibly Kepler 22b
S or Small: Planet/moon similar to Mars in size.
Example: Possibly TRAPPIST-f.
R or Rogue: Planet/moon not around a host star, was ejected out of host system.
Habitability Levels are determined by surface temperature, atmosphere content and mass, water, host star, and other factors.
1: Fringe habitability, very hostile to life, requires special habitats and equipment to survive. Common.
2: Hostile, requires significant equipment and habitats to survive. Common.
3: Reasonable habitability, may require some equipment and preparations to survive. Uncommon.
4: Could support life, requires little to no equipment to survive. Rare.
5: Gaian, perfect conditions, exceedingly fertile, very hospitable to life, and requires no equipment to survive. Very rare.
Note: Planets with levels 3, 4, and 5 may support life, from single-celled organisms to intelligent life.
Star categories are determined by host star’s brightness, spectra, size, mass, and other factors.
D or Dwarf: Small and the most common stars.
M or Medium: Medium size and luminosity. Earth orbits a Y class star.
G or Giant: Large stars, usually in the red giant stage.
H or Hypergiant: Huge stars, with huge mass and luminosity.
Notes: D class stars are very long lived, but may have lots of Coronal Mass Ejections, or CMBs. Class G and H star are short lived and volatile. Generally it is believed that class M stars are the most habitable for life.
Life Levels are determined by the complexity and multiplicity of life on the said planet.
1: Single-celled organisms.
2: Simple multicellular organisms.
3: Complex multicellular organisms.
4: Intelligent life.
5: Civilizations.
Note: Life Level 4 to 5 planets may have civilizations and species ranging from the Stone Age to planetary in development.
Intelligent Life Levels are determined by the complexity, multiplicity, intelligence, technology, and development on part of said intelligent life.
1: Non technological to Stone Age species, with intelligence akin to early humans, dolphins, octopi, and apes.
2: Agricultural species with agriculture, villages, specialization, and usage of more advanced tools. Similar to humans during the Agricultural Revolution.
3: Civilizations-writing, metallurgy, centralized government, and the likes. Akin to humans during the Bronze, Iron, Dark, and Renaissance ages.
4: Civilizations with industrial capacity, mechanization, and developed technology. Akin to 19th to early 20th century humans.
5: inteplanetary and space-faring civilizations with computers, advanced technology, and rocketry. Akin to late 20th century to modern humanity.
The equation to calculate the Exoplanet Score:
Variables:
I=Intelligent Life Level
L=Life Level
H=Habitability Level
X=Star Category Level.
Star Category Level=If D, then 4. If M, then 5. If G, then 3. If H, then 2.
I+2L+10H+7S
———————————
100
The reason the equations are set up with these ratios is because the basic habitability of a planet or moon matters first and foremost, and its host star type is almost as important. Next, the host life of the planet serves as extra scoring because it proves the planet or moon is capable of supporting life, because it is doing so at the present moment. Intelligent life on the planet/moon proves that it is old enough to evolve such creatures. The ratio is 5:3.5:1:0.5, in the order of H, S, L, I.
Example:
Earth
I=5
L=5
H=5
S=M=10
5+5+10(5)+6(10)
———————————————
100
5+5+50+60
————————
100
100
——— or 100%
100
Exoplanet Score=100%
Format:
Star Category+Type of Planet/moon-Habitability Level+Life Level-Intelligent Life Level+Overall Exoplanet Rating
Examples of Planet Entries:
Earth: MC-55-5-100%
