Moresha is an oasis nestled in the heart of the desert, that draws thousands of pilgrims every year to see the famed Ruby of Radia.

But beneath the surface, Moresha is a city of sinners and slaves, run by a corrupt council and dominated by powerful gangs.

For a couple of years, the denizens of the city have been in thrall to the infamous Red Heretic, an anonymous magician, nicknamed for the robes she wears, a mockery of the priestesses of Radia, but instead of white, hers are scarlet, the colour meant for the Goddess alone. The Red Heretic performs wild and amazing acts of magic on the streets, and seems intent on bringing down the ruling classes.

Sixteen year old Mae is a talented pickpocket who has grown up on the streets, bound to the vile Kilruddin family by an insurmountable debt. So when a handsome stranger approaches her, and offers her a job on a crew working for none other than The Red Heretic herself, Mae accepts.

The crew is a tight knit group, devoted to one another and all elite in their fields. There is Lux, the charming man with a talent for explosives and arson, Crissa, the beautiful and dangerous spy and Deki, the shy giant who can kill anyone with a single blow.

Then there is Noorah, the Red Heretic herself, an unassuming young woman with magical abilities the likes of which Mae has never seen, and a past so mysterious that not even the rest of the team knows it.

But the Red Heretic is about to get the biggest commission of her career. It could change the world - or destroy the city, and it is deeply personal. If they're going to pull it off, they're going to need to be daring, and on top of their game. Most of all, they're going to need to trust each other. And in a city where everyone is always watching their backs, trust can be hard to come by...

Just because you don't feel like a hero in your own story, doesn't mean you're not a hero in someone else's.
