Inspired by stories such as Night in the Woods, the Patrick Melrose series, All the Bright Places, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, and Eggs, Too Much Blank Space, Not Enough Vomit is going to be a film with poetry and photographs as companion pieces.

Too Much Blank Space, Not Enough Vomit follows the lives of Rhys Hartman, a seventeen year old transgender drug addict; his older, overprotective brother and guardian, Ethan; his semi-understanding best friend, Lip; and new-girl-in-town-turned-sponsor Leah as they navigate their home town of Birdsboro, Kentucky together, learning how to cope with each other and themselves along the way.

It is a film about the horrors of life, sobriety, mental illness, love, loss, and learning to exist within one's own headspace.

Like the author, the script may remain unfinished, forever under revision, advisement, and growth. At the end, there will be a bloodstained notebook, a tale that has been told, and the lives of both characters and author thoroughly lived. It will be worth it.

The Cast

Rhys Hartman: Seventeen year old transgender male, socially transitioned. Rhys is a mentally ill drug addict, struggling to get and stay sober even with the mounting pressure from his brother to get his life together.

Ethan Hartman: the elder Hartman brother works as a cook and server at the local Two Wolves diner, where he often pulls double or even triple shifts to provide for his little brother and himself. Tired of Rhys' failures, all he hopes for is for his little brother to get clean and lead a successful, productive life.

Leah Becker: Leah arrived in Birdsboro about a month ago, and has slowly been etching herself into the small town since. Also a waitress at Two Wolves, Leah finds herself inexplicably drawn to the Hartman brothers, unable to pull herself away even when their case seems hopeless.

Philip "Lip" Garcia:Rhys' best friend since eighth grade, Lip is a nineteen year old Chicano, born in the USA to his Mexican immigrant parents, helping them out with their restaurant when he's not working at the local GE factory.

Barbara Hartman:The Hartman brothers' estranged mother, now living in California and married to a wealthy plastic surgeon.

Why was he chosen? Why was I? Why are any of us? Extraordinary. The Universe gambles - and to the Universe, the ending doesn't matter, it always wins. But to us - well, the ending changes everything. A Universe that gambles and doesn't care, the people who lose and do. How extraordinary.
