Show Us Your Shorts!

Join us for the first annual Short Story Month on YWS! Throughout the month of May, we'll be celebrating the art of writing short stories, with a few extra challenges along the way.

What is it?
In the same tradition as National Poetry Writing Month and National Novel Writing Month, this May will be dedicated to writing short stories.

What are the prizes?
There are 4 possible prizes to snag during Show Us Your Shorts month:

Short Shorts
Write 4 stories during the month of May that are 2,000 words long or less.

Cargo Shorts
Write 4 stories during the month of May with at least 1 story that is 3,000 to 4,000 words long (the remaining 3 can be of any length).

Capris
Write 4 stories during the month of May with at least 1 story that is 5,000 to 7,000 words long (the remaining 3 can be of any length).

Bell Bottoms
Write 4 stories during the month of May with at least 1 story that is 8,000 words long or longer (the remaining 3 can be of any length).

Each challenge comes with it's own badge, so theoretically one could earn all 4 badges during May! Or, you could take it easy and aim for the 4 short shorts.

How do I prove I won?
Every story should be posted to YWS' literary area via the Publishing Center, and then linked in the Achievement Log thread. Every story should be written during the month of May, but obviously it's on the honor system, so please be fair!

What else is going on?
Every day you can see a new prompt in the Show Us Your Shorts Prompts thread, to help you toward inspiration if you get stuck.

There might also be workshops, short jams, and other impromptu activities. Follow this thread for any relevant announcements (subscribe for notifications!). If you want to host your own short jam (similar to poetry jams) go for it! It would also be cool if you wanted to share it here in this thread for everyone to see.

Go forth, and be brief!

Don't say you don't have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michaelangelo, Mother Teresa, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein.
