When I started the book I am writing currently for NaNoWriMo I thought it would be really cool to actually have 3D representations of the characters that are involved in the story. To me it would help make it more real.

This idea brought me to the program called Fuse Character Creator; a free 3D character modeler that has a very extensive database for characterization. Think of an RPG on steroids. For the full extent of the program you have to pay monthly, but the free version allows you to create some awesome characters.

Also, something everyone might look forward to is this kickstarter campaign to create an extremely versatile world map creator called world spinner:

I would also recommend looking at this one:

That Worldspinner looks amazing, just what I want in a map-maker. If I had seen it before the deadline I'd have backed it.

The Fuse thing I've heard of (I think it's on Steam) but I didn't know there was a free version, which I'll try if my PC can handle it.

I can't wait to test it out!

And yeah, it's not bad. You can either pay monthly for the full version or pay for individual model packs and upload them to the free version. Once you have a model you can twist and mold it into anything you can think of so buying individual packs is not that bad of a gig if you ever have extra money to blow.

The map creator I've used pretty extensively as well is:
