LONDON (AFP) - Britain's Scout Association on Saturday unveiled 40 new badges that boys and girls can earn, but the tasks are a far cry from those when the movement was set up 100 years ago.

Instead of badges for tying knots and lighting campfires without matches, modern members of the movement will now be rewarded for activities such as skateboarding, racing quad bikes, parascending and making fruit salad.

Astronautics and snow boarding also feature -- and there is also a badge for public relations, prompting The Daily Telegraph Saturday to describe it as "scouting for spin doctors".
