Yeah, um, I'm haveing some real problems with the chat. When I try to get on, I get this message

I'm Sorry, But You Need At Least 25 Reviews To Do That.
Click Here To Return To The Young Writers Society

When did we start this? I'd really like to chat with my friends, but I'm not a real active member of the site when it somes to actual writing. But still, why is this here? For new members, this could be a problem. When I was new I was told to ask for help in the chat, but if you don't have 25 reveiws, how will you be able to? It's just a little rediculous. Anyway, I guess I have to start reveiwing a lot if I want to talk to any of my YWS friends, lol.

I agree. I'll deal with it if I have to--I'm reveiwing right now--but if a new member wants to meet people, the chat is blocked to them. I sort of agree with the policy of reviews, though, but I feel 25 is a bit much. 5-10 would seem a bit more reasonable to me.

And, also, one of my ways of finding things to review is by chat. I'm sort of caught in a vicious circle at the moment.
Where are we going?

Errant said that Nate put up that thing that said you need 25 reviews to keep out the not active member... at least I think that's what he said. Hmm?...

Well, I can't say I'm active but I still use the chat almost daily. Thanks for the help anyway.

Volant: It's 25 reviews (ie. of stories, poems, artwork and scripts), not posts.
I wrote the above just for you.

That's the whole point, wasn't it? to get members more active, and not just using the chat. That's what I thought 0.o

Still, a newbie wouldn't be able to get in to meet new people, and a newbie might not stay a week to get 25 reviews. I found a writing website that had a similar standard and I only stayed around for a few days.

The point of the rule is to sort out the people who are going to actually critique pieces from the ones who won't. The idea's a good one.

Just think of the Chat as a reward for your critiques. :)

The idea is a good one. I agree with it. Chat was just one of my most important ways of getting things to review. And I was able to ask if it had anything that I wouldn't want to read. Now I have to rely on the rating of the writer, a position I find very uncomfortable.

And, with school, homework, writing club, and everything else, It might take me three weeks to be able to get up to 25 reviews. I'll gladly wait 3 weeks if I have to, I just think it's unfair to newbies.
