Three men have been arrested in Germany on suspicion of planning a "massive" attack on US facilities in the country, officials have said.

Federal prosecutor Monika Harms said the three had trained at camps in Pakistan and procured some 700kg (1,500lbs) of chemicals for explosives.

She said the accused had sought to target facilities visited by Americans, such as nightclubs, pubs or airports.

Defence Minister Franz Josef Jung said the men had posed "an imminent threat".

Media reports said the men were planning attacks against a US military base in Ramstein and Frankfurt airport.

The US praised the actions of the German government and said the incident showed everyone needed to be vigilant in finding "terrorists".

German government sources have told the BBC they believe at least seven members of the cell are still at large.

My dad told me about this, and then we heard about it on the radio. I cannot believe they were going to bomb Ramstein. That horrifies me, because that place is already known for horrible deaths... it doesn't need to be known for anymore. It's a sacred place to honor those who died in the accident, to have it be bombed, that's just... uck.

Also, it's just kind of scary... I could very well be a visiting American in a night club. @_@

Ramstein airbase seems to have rather bad luck...

I doubt they were actually going to go on a bombing run. I haven't heard of any since 9/11, and I doubt one will happen anytime soon. At least it shows that countries are working hard to find these people. Thankss to them, we might one day have a terrorist free world.

"Are you sure?"
"Yah! This kid at school says they get all the girls!"
"I should try that..."

0.0 Are you kidding? Have you not heard about the (and I'm not going to put quotes here b/c it really was) massive attempt on British airlines not long ago? I can tell you that made me feel wonderfully safe about boarding the plane to Manchester.
