Yes. As per YWS policy, all your rights stay with you, and posting your work on YWS doesn't count as publishing it.

featherstone9086 wrote:Anyways, I'm actually here to ask a question that isn't very important but I was curious about. For the Role-play Geeks I wanted to make a forum for posting characters and their descriptions so a link to the post was included instead of having to describe the character with every new RP and player. However, when I went to do that, I had no idea whatsoever where to put it. Help?

@featherstone9086 --> I know @Iggy's probably already on this, but lol I wanted to take a chance to capitalize on a special thing SB Crew is doing for you guys. I would suggest making a thread in what is currently Character Chit-Chat. Title it something liiike "Character Profiles" or "Character Sheets" and I'll sticky it for you. Then just have the folks from RPG link their formed character sheet from the thread in whatever post in RPG is needed!

I've noticed that there has been a lot of novel excerpts posted here. Should you post some novels that you intend to traditionally publish someday?

@PrincessInk

On top of what ChildOfNowhere said, that you keep your rights, there are a couple things to consider:

1- The drafts you publish on YWS will not be the draft you query with, almost guaranteed. You post them on YWS to get them up to the quality it'll take to query with the novel. By the time you're getting close to query, you've now developed a whole bunch of friends who are invested in the story who can help you polish in depth! (Interact with your reviewers— ask questions, thank them, send them follow up PMs, request they review more of your stuff. It's a great way to make friends!)

2- You can always remove the draft/make it private if you run into a publisher who wants no trace of the story online. If you do this, the story can't be found (even bits quoted in reviews).

@RoseAndThorn --> Take this Unsettling Letter and read it where no one can see, then dispose of it in a place wherein no one will come to harm if and when it catches fire.

Do not go near the room labeled Totally Not Nate.

Will a light hearted chant that goes a little like this -
OVERTHROW BIG BRO
OVERTHROW BIG BRO
- cause me to be locked in a soundless prison for an undecided portion of time?

No. Mods have a sense of humor.

It is worth mentioning that you are unlikely to win a practical joke war with Big Brother. Keep that in mind before starting a joke revolution!
