I can't really decide on my favorite, though. Probably either #7 or #9
I tried to keep similar things going throughout, and continue parts I liked from one poem into the next one in a different way. #10, for example, continues the idea of never pulling the trigger even when you have a gun in your hand. The echoes of my favorite lines in each poem is probably my favorite part about this NaPo, because it allowed me to experiment with all kinds of different ideas.
I like how the title says YOUR because sometimes we get so caught up in other people's opinion that this blind-sights us from our personal favorite. Here is mine:
Ink to Paper
Spoiler! :
Like sunlight burning at midnight, Your lantern lights the path Ink to paper
In days of wandering, Pointing which way I shall go Ink to paper.
Words locked up in a cell, Novels trapped inside my mind Waiting to be released free on Ink to paper.
“Who is this?” you ask. It’s my writing muse, That’s ink to paper for you!
A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads only lives once ~George R. Martin Life isn't about finding yourself; it's about recreating yourself. ~George B. Shaw
The second one especially. It's been a weird month for poetry-writing for me, like the way I went about it was just really different from what I normally do. (And more time-consuming, but school is the entire reason I fell dreadfully behind.)
Hoping to get one more out before NaPo ends here in about seven hours, but we shall see. I have plenty of pieces for it, but I'm not sure I know how they all fit together.
Overall, I don't think my NaPo this year was as good as 2013 or 2014. I think I took more risks and tried different things back then, whereas this time I mostly just spit out random fragments.
My absolute favorite is #4, but I'm also partial to #3 (and the others about my Yia-Yia), #6 (my first attempt at Spanish poetry!), #8 (the one about blue...just realized there were two #8s). I'm also proud of the no-adjectives challenge, but I feel like it wouldn't make sense to anyone else.
My favourite is one I didn't post on the actual thread, but might make it up eventually. I actually kinda like all of them and this is some of my favourite poetry I've ever written.
A writer is a world trapped in a person— Victor Hugo
Ink is blood. Paper is bandages. The wounded press books to their heart to know they're not alone.
I totally like all two poems I wrote for this (*is slightly ashamed*), but hey! At least I did something... Right? I do feel like I should publish them to get some feedback though. 'Twas my first time writing poems after all.
My favorite of the two, though... Hmm... I really like both of them, but I'd say that it's "The Winged Pawn's Arrow".
Spoiler! :
Upon this facet of the world, above the great sky, A white expanse could be explored, for those ready to fly so high. It was the mark of a world unheeded, For no mere Earth Dweller could reach it . It was a world of clouds, winds and mountain peaks, In which only the bravest of birds would find what it seeks. The world of Avalias, or so it was called, Was home to unique creatures, airborne. The Aveos, or so they were named, Were the supreme rulers, if they remained United against their numerous foes. Wild beasts, furious winds and thunderous skies, All were enemies, for those without keen eyes, And trusty comrades to accompany. But a new threat, courtesy of a mighty Earth Dweller, Was coming, adding itself to the struggles yonder. It was a castle in the sky, floating in obsidian heaven, Spawning mechanical birds to catch the wings that had been given To the flying masters of Avalias, who were now reduced to Pawns In the eyes of their artificial hunters. Many Aveos lost their beloved wings And fell to the land of the Earth Dwellers. Doomed to despair, the rebellious Pawns decided to shape an Arrow That would transform their rising sorrow Into the very weapon that would strike the castle in the sky And bring back their right to fly. Panzaro was the name offered to the new leader Fated to become the fearsome slayer That would finally guide the Aveos close by To freedom.
