What would I need to do?

Depending on the amount of interest, I'd like 2/3 editors to help me out! Your duties would be to help me pick what articles we should publish, and what we can do to make them better. You would collaborate with the writers in the editing process - suggesting the changes you would make to them and coming to a solution - before the article is published. You'd also proofread all the articles that are under your responsibility to make sure that the spelling and grammar is absolutely perfect.

What skills do I need?

You would need a sense of what makes a good article, a ruthless attitude towards writing, a willingness to cooperate with others and an enthusiasm for teamwork! Good spelling and grammar are essential.

I've never done anything like this before, do you think I could still do it?

Absolutely! And I'd really love to get some new blood, and it would be great experience for you if you ever plan on editing a school/college newspaper or something similar.

I only want to do this for one issue. Is that okay?

At the moment, I don't know if Spotlight will go past one issue. If it does, ideally I'd love to have the same team on board for second and subsequent issues. If you can't manage that, though, it's okay! Don't worry about it right now.

You mentioned a small points award. How much?

I'd be giving each of my editors 1000 points in gratitude for their help.

How long should it be?

I'm easy on this, but keep it under a thousand words.

Can it be about absolutely anything?

Yes, and no. There are two things I do not want to read articles about:

1. Writing- Fiction Discussion and Tips, The Knowledge Base, Squills and lots of other places on the forums give you a chance to talk about this!
2. YWS- again, Spotlight is not the forum for this - speak to the editors of Squills if you have an interesting idea for the YWS news.

Other than those two, literally anything you want can be discussed (book and movie reviews also are not out of the question, I'd love to see some!) Whether it's politics or arts or sports or travel or even just an opinion article about something that doesn't fall into any particular category, send it over and we'll see what we can do!

Will you definitely publish my article?

No. It depends on the numbers we get and the quality. But if your article doesn't make the cut, the editors will send you a message explaining why and what you can do next time to get it published.

Can I attach a picture to my article?

Yes but it must be properly credited or it will not be published.

Do I get paid?

Each writer will receive 500 points in gratitude.

Okay, basically I need a header for the magazine and my skills only stretch to Microsoft Paint. Also other illustrations for articles etc if people are willing.

Can I submit a bit of art by itself for publication?

Sure, but like the articles there's no guarantee it will make it in!

So how do I apply?

If you want a go at creating the header, just PM me the finished product! Similarly if you have anything else you want to see if we can publish, just PM it over.

Is there payment?

Individual artwork like individual articles will receive 500 points. The header designer and anyone who comes on board as an illustrator will receive 1000.
