I got this score for a section of a piece I have posted currently on this site.

Flesch-Kincaid Grade level: 23.
Flesch-Kincaid Reading Ease score: 6.

I'm pleased with the first, though I would prefer if it was legible to most readers.

Um. I got a minus score for something that I wrote up for school that I thought was really clear and easy to understand?

Science major.

I think i did pretty good. I got grade 8 with a 63 ease of reading. I posted my whole novel which is great because I am aiming for about the high school age group.

Lol, i put in the declaration of independence:
Grade 20, 11 ease of reading o_o.

Most of my works are grade levels 6-7, while the readability always remains above 65. ._. At least I know I make sense, right? xD

An abstract of a course I've written got Grade 17 and Reading Ease score of 15. On the other hand, the poem below (which I wrote) got Grade 9 and a readability level of 64. So it's not all bad. XD

RAIN

Summer, and the heat blossoms like long grass.
The windmill is turning slower than usual. The house bakes
in the midday sun, while we bask amid the dandelions,
blowing smoke rings and swapping lemonade straws. I tell you

I promised Mother you could make the rain fall
from the sky. You hold me to my wish. So we sit there
for what could pass for an aeon, clasping hands, murmuring
in strange tongues, tapping the earth for its power.

Then at last the clouds give up their seed, and the air blooms
with rain, roaring with newfound clarity, driving the geese
into the barn, leaving the cows stranded in what is now
a paddy field. We throw our arms against the sky

and sing chants of praise to the gods – they have made true
their promise. You run down the hill and I race after you,
turning and turning in the grass, ploughing the land
now blessed with rain.

Oh fantastic. Don't expect any heady novels from me, then.

Reading Ease score: 68.

I submitted this from a fan-fiction I'm working on
and I got a grade of 11 and score of 57.

Mine I feel kind of stupid now

I put in a bunch of my writing (including some of my essays for my AP English class) and I kept getting 7's and 8's. I didn't get anything passed that. I've always known I was a simple writer, which doesn't bother me at all, but I was hoping my essays would be a bit higher

But for the record just because you can understand something doesn't mean you can write something. Like my sister couldn't write anything I could and she's in 8th grade, but she could understand what I write. I can read and understand college level novels and textbooks but I couldn't write one.

Man, you guys feel bad? I got this:

And that was the part of my novel that I had typed (well over 50k words). I guess it is a little as easy to read... but come on, grade level 5? Oh well, more people to buy it if i ever publish it

I got grade level 5 and a readability level of 74.

The problem? My excerpt is from the novel I'm just starting, which is going to have quite a bit of gore and a lesbian storyline. If I published it for kids (which is highly unlikely) of the ages ten to eleven, the uproar would be huge. I can see the angry mothers now... Talking about how I've "corrupted" their children.

I posted the first story I wrote on YWS and this is what I get.
