Hey obviously I'm new since I'm posting here, but yeah I randomly found this website and it looks like just what i need to improve my writing skills. I write short stories, but my real passion is in poetry.I'd greatly appreciate any reviews i can get for my poems. So far I have posted three, but there are many more I wish to show. Im new at the whole reviewing thing, but I'm trying and hopefully getting better as I go. Okay well everyone seems really nice so yeah, haha bye.

Hi, welcome to YWS. I'm not going to bother with the normal newbie stuff since you've already wandered around but maybe this article will help you write reviews. It's only for stories, though. You can always search theKnowledge Base too.

What type of fiction/poetry do you write?

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions or anything. :)

Hiya and welcome to YWS!

Eight reviews already? Wow. You must have read the rules! Did you catch this one: Minimize chat-speak. Some abbreviations and alliteration is okay though.

Short stories and poetry! I dabble in poetry and have only attemtped one short story. What genres do you write? What are some themes that come through in your poetry?

Some more questions:
Who are your favourite authors?
What are your favourite books?

If you need anything, feel free to PM me.

Hey there. I also mostly write short stories and poetry. And dabble a bit in lyrics. It seems as though you have caught on. Feel free to PM me if you want reviews on your poetry. More likely than not, I'll end up reviewing at least one of your poems. So what genre do you write? Welll, if you have any questions or need any help, just let me know. Good luck.

Hi everyone! My short stories are mostly surreal. I love the magical, out of this world kind of stuff. My poems tend to be dark. With poems I just let go what i feel, and I have realized that when i write especially when I'm not in the best of moods that i come up with the best material. I don't know i can't explain it. I feel like poetry is my perfect outlet, while prose has to be worked on too much, and i lose the initial feeling. I am trying to work on my short stories though, and when i feel I'm ready to show one then i will. My favorite writers are Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Hemingway, and then i'd probably have to say Chekhov. Im American/Mexican but I have been studying in Russia for the past year so I have a new love for Russian Literature.

Hey there! I reviewed a poem of yours I think... did you read my comments?

Russian Literature, eh? Well, I'm studying English Literature here in the UK for my AS levels (= tenth grade): we're reading The Great Gatsby. Such a good set text.

As you may have guessed from my portfolio and my review, I'm a big fan of poetry but I enjoy all kinds of literature too. I write mostly poems, but am currently working on a traditional Victorian ghost story! I also do some crime fiction every now and then. Do you have any specialist genres apart from poetry?

Also, do you have any hobbies or interests? Mine include cycling, foreign languages and public speaking.

Feel free to PM me if anything's on your mind, if you're lost or you just want some helpful feedback.

Have fun!

Cheers!

Gahks

Hey! Welcome to YWS. (He he, so many welcomes)

A poet. Wow, I admire you. I'm horrid at poetry. So if you ever decide to read a story of mine, and it has poetry in it, please, spare my feelings about the poetry. Wow, you write best with emotion too, eh? I usually write best when I'm slightly annoyed, or at night... how odd. I always listen to music for information.

And hey, I like magical too. Well, fantasy really. Reading, writing... I love to create the worlds they live in, and describe the real J.R.R Tolkien elves. The perfect ones!

Anyways, if you feel like you need a friend, or some short story writing tips, I can maybe help. I'm no expert, but if you want a plot twist, give me something to work with, and I can probably help. I'm trying to work on twisted and tangled plots that leave the reader a little confuzzled. And if you wanna add me as a friend, go ahead! Clicky the button, that is all there is to it!

Peace!

thanks to all of you for posting!

and yes gahks you did review on of my poems and thank you for that! Why don't you like russian literature? Once you really get into it, its really amazing. Chekhov's short stories are probably some of the best and Dostoevsky is truly a genius. Not only as a writer, but the philosophy within his writing is incredible. Then you have war and peace from Tolstoy, and I have recently started reading works from Pushkin and Gorky which are great as well. I actually have had to read Gorky in Russian (since he was born in the city I'm studying in) which has been hard, but it is one of my requirements for the course I am currently taking. I know Russian literature isn't for everyone, but you should give it a try if you haven't already. Anyway what do you guys like to read? I'm open to pretty much everything. I am big on the classics, but I really can't say i know much about modern literature lol. Any recommendations?

Howdy-ho, friend! If you're into poetry I'm sure you'll feel right at home here, there are a ton of fantastic poets, not including myself, poetry is not my strongest point. I think my weakness in poetry actually makes me appreciate it more. Anywhoot... If you right short stories be sure to post them here! Even send me a message and I'd be glad to review them for you, I love reading short stories.

Russian literature, eh? I'll need to check into that, a few of my friends were reading some for school lately and they got really into it, so I'll have to check that out this year... I've been wanting to get more into the "classics."

The name's Shannon, by the way, feel free to send me a PM anytime you need anything, or just want to chat! I'm always looking for someone to procrastinate with!

Oh, and by the way, be sure to keep the rules in mind-- no chat speak, we're too fancy for that, and to review two pieces for every one you post. Maintaining this 2:1 ratio keeps YWS rollin'.

Stay classy,

Shannon
