Of Crows and Songbirds (Part 2)

"Tomorrow, though," Sara said to Mattathias. "You and Marcella have bedtime after this."
"It was gonna be tomorrow!" Mattathias said quickly. "Ky needs to sleep too, right?"

Ky nodded in agreement. “It’s been a long day.”

It’d be an even longer night, once she was left alone with her own thoughts. She knew why she and Tadaaki had to be kept separate unless accompanied by a babysitter; she respected it. But. Gods. She’d rest a hell of a lot better if they could spend the night in his room. Have him there to chase away the monsters under her bed — and simultaneously give her the peace of mind that he was okay.

But. Well.

Whatever sleep she got would be appreciated.

"It must have been," Sera agreed. "You two have settled in alright, I hope? How are your rooms?"

“They’re fantastic ma’am,” Ky said quickly. “Very, very generous and comfortable. Thank you.”

Tadaaki nodded in agreement yet again.

"I'm glad to hear it. Much better than the infirmary beds, I'm sure."
"I hope they don't seem too....much," Sara said. "I remember how big our room was when I came to live here. It was bigger than my whole house, I swear."

Ky nodded in agreement. “They’re definitely gigantic… but very, very nice. We appreciate it.”

And were scared of them. But. Well. Couldn’t very well agree with Lady Ash calling it excessive. Even though it most definitely was. She didn’t want to sound ungrateful, though.

"If you want any changes made, you only need to ask. You're our guests; we don't want you to be uncomfortable."

Ky flushed. Did she seem ungrateful? She hadn’t meant to do that at all. What had she said wrong? Should she apologize? She gladly would, but she wasn’t sure what she’d done or how to correct it. “Y-yes ma’am, thank you.” She ducked her head. “That’s very kind of you. Thank you.”

Sara dipped her head.
"Mr. Tadaaki, do you have pets?" Mattathias asked.

“Um… my wife had a pair of parakeets,” he said.

"What's a parakeet?"

“Small, colorful birds.”

"Do they do songs?"

Tadaaki nodded. “They mostly just chirp, but I heard them sing a time or two.”

"What's their names?"
