  • My final poem!

(After this I plan on editing and revising several of my poems as well as sprucing up my thread Possibly with illustrations...)

Great job with #NaPo everyone!! There's so many cool threads I still have to catch up on but I can't wait to read more poetry!

Announcement: May Haiku Collection (YWS-er style!)

Hello hello~ A huge congratulations to everyone who participated in NaPo, and everyone who didn't participate as well! You know why? Well, it's because May is Haiku Month. Whether or not you've already spent a whole month cracking your poetry brains, May is time for easy breezy low-key poetry activities centered around the beloved haiku.

This year we're doing a YWS-wide Haiku Collection! The purpose of this activity is 1. to encourage everyone to try their hand at haiku and 2. to encourage YWS-ers from all around the site to get to know each other.

    Here's how it will work:

    1. Everyone who signs up writes ONE haiku (this could be a more traditional haiku, which is about nature, or it could be one of the spin-off version that is about something else. There's a whole KB article about what technically counts as haiku, but for the purposes of this collection we're using the term haiku broadly for convenience :3)

    2. Submit the haiku in this thread along with a short (maybe 3-line) bio about yourself

    3. Ideas for what to include in the bio: what you do on the site, what's your favourite thread/ forum topic/ literary centre category/ randomosity game / kind of chicken

    Here is an example:
Liminality (any pronouns) is a poeter who often lurks in WriterFeedPads. Her favourite threads include the Worst Poem Thread, the Haiku Train and the Tanka Train. Please yell at her about poetry, pets and weird comedy-parody things, because that's her jam.

Also include pronouns, or anything else you'd like us to know!

    4. We will compile all the haiku into a thread, linking to everyone's profiles, like a poetic catalogue of new friends

    5. . . and there will be an aesthetic pdf collection in that same thread as well! :3

More on what May Haiku is about
Here's the famous ever-growing Haiku Train on YWS, where you can find examples written by fellow YWS-ers.
Here's a nice little overview on writing haiku.

  • So I was looking for prompt generators to get some inspiration for #NaPo and I came across this one:
    https://seattle7writers.org/random-prompt-generator
I haven't gotten the actual prompt part to work, but it forces you to continuously type until you reach your goal(5 min, 500 words) and I may have accidentally written a very messysappy love poem ;p
    Spoiler! :
    hello I am a name
that you've probably mistaken for your own
but I suppose we can still be friends
    as we hide under umbrellas
    from falling-star skies

    There's a madness you crave
that only cats and dogs satisfy
it's like love when you swing
and falling, land on your own two feet
the grass beneath is soft and new springy,
    grown in spring,
but there's twelve million blades and that's a lot to count

you should know that I remembered you
    when you left my dream-world
and I think of new things and ideas
    without you
which is very sad to say outloud
but in my head you are there too

I've written 114 words and one number
and now we can talk about conclusions
maybe end in marriage? a kiss? holding hands? are all those too much for you?
I should have known you weren't my knight in shining armor
especially since it was I that rescued you

  • I finally wrote a poem I'm proud of for #NaPo , and figured I'd give you all the song prompt I used ;)

  • I've started a story that I hope to actually turn into a novel. It's about a small island country and a prince hoping to reclaim his throne, so check it out if you like fantasy!

  • @Magebird thanks for tagging me!

I've never done #NaPo before so I'll probably stick to 30 poems, and *maybe* each of them will be in theme. The reason I chose "Hope" is because the upturn at the end of the poem is a common theme, and I want to mess around with the emotional(?) formatting of poetry. It's a bit experimental, but I'll also be focusing on trying different poetry styles and working on free-form, which is harder for me to write than structured poetry. And maybe I'll try more narrative poetry too, who knows?

(also really looking forward to reading everyone's poetry!!!)

starlitmind WOOHOO, YOU GOT THIS, I BELIEVE IN YOU!!!! ^_^ CAN”T WAIT TO READ YOUR THREAD!!!! :D <3 <3 <3

@LordMomo My favorite color is Navy Blue, favorite celebrity... ngl this one is hard, maybe Adam Young? Favorite book: The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt!!! And I found YWS my junior year after coronavirus hit and I was really sad not to be part of a writing community. I knew about Wattpad and am not one for fanfiction, so I did a bit of searching and very luckily found this!
@Stellarjay "Mary, Mary, quite contrary, how does your garden grow?" xD
@Magebird The third book in the Wondla Trilogy by one of my favorite childhood authors/illustrators, Tony DiTerlizzi

quitecontrary It's a nursery rhyme my parents used to tease me with, but I think it might have also been referenced in The Secret Garden, and it's been a while since I've read that :)
