A follow up from my two truths and a lie post-the first “song” I ever wrote. I was indeed 5 and didn’t know what gloom meant-my friend suggested it when I was looking for words that rhymed with room (I think I dismissed “bloom” for some reason).

I love my room
My room is full of gloom
I love to read my room
Reading my room.

Yes, it says “reading my room”, not “reading in my room”. No, I don’t know why.

So this stupid game makes me think of work events, but I feel like jumping on the bandwagon so here goes.

1. I first learned I needed glasses from watching Jeopardy at dinner and being unable to read the answers.

2. My first job was at McDonald’s.

3. My first poem had the word “gloom”’in it. I was five and did not know what “gloom” meant.

Update-still haven’t fully unpacked my bags but I won my first YWS Olympics gold medal so that’s pretty neat. Might be my first medal ever-could have sworn I won a medal at one point but I can’t find it.

Edit-I guess this is my first medal; I checked the event archives and found that I had participated in at least one event in 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2021, but did not win.

2nd edit: I did win a silver medal in 2014 for a poem about socks: Ode to a Missing Sock. Won a second silver medal for this story Marta's Wedding and a bronze for the scavenger hunt.I did not medal in 2016, 2018, or 2021.

1-it’s been a year since two middle aged men kissed on TV and it screwed me up forever. #DescribeaTVShowPlotBadly . I’m still not over it. I’m okay but I’m not fine at all. Since I watched it a few days late, I’m like “wow, this day a year ago was the last weekend I had a totally normal un-rotted brain and I had no idea.”

2-still working on aforementioned fanfic. Still trying to get to the end because my original planned ending didn’t feel Good Enough and also reworking some stuff I’ve already posted here.I have never loved and loathed anything I have written this much. But I am determined to finish it.

3-unrelated to points 1 and 2, I’m traveling for work this week and I’m super nervous. It’s somewhere super hot so I might die of heatstroke if I don’t literally lose my mind. So that’s fun.

Writing update because I haven't babbled about it in a while.

1-I am no longer embarrassed that I'm writing fanfic. In fact, I am now convinced that all writing is fanfic to some extent and originality is a myth. It's turtles fanfic all the way down. Also, I learned while discussing this "too old for fanfic" notion with my therapist that she writes CSI fanfic, so that's fun.

2-I ended up in a group of GO fic writers, which has pushed me to write more than ever. Unfortunately, it is mostly very non-YWS-friendly. Never saw myself writing that sort of thing, but it's fun so here I am.

3-I'm still working on "The Interlude", I swear! I'm trying to get some longer-term betas to help me fix it and get it to a proper ending, because I'm a perfectionist and my original ambiguous-but-hopeful ending no longer feels good enough. But I'm also terrified of criticism because it's my baby, so don't ask me how that's supposed to work.

If I had a nickel for every time I name dropped Taylor Swift in the title of a poem that is only tangentially related to Taylor Swift, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
