  • Today I learned that the average writer doesn't get a novel published until age 36 or so. I think a lot of us put a lot of pressure on ourselves to be perfect writers, (I sure do at any rate). But the vast majority of us are still young; not even halfway to that point. It's a liberating feeling, knowing that you've got plenty of time to grow and improve; that even if that one short story or poem didn't turn out quite as well as you wanted, there will always be time to make a better one soon. There's no rush to make it to the top; success will still be there when we're ready for it.

  • I logged onto the site today and found that something interesting was happening, so I decided to join in. So, #interviewme please.

  • So, lately I've been reading 1984, which just so happens to have the original Big Brother as the leader of the country. It's kinda funny how our BB and the book's BB are pretty much exact opposites. For example, in the book, BB censors free speech, but on this site it's encouraged. Interestingly enough though, the main character in 1984 is actually helping perpetuate the government's lies by changing old newspaper articles, which could technically be considered a form of fiction, however unethical it may be. And a lot of us write fiction here too...

I'm not trying to make a conspiracy theory or anything, I was on the Unclassified side of things when our BB was threatened. I just think the juxtaposition is interesting, and wanted to point it out.

My word, this reads a lot more like an english paper than I intended. Oh well...

    Mea Hehehehe ;)
    Spoiler! :
I believe our BB is actually named after 1984's BB, exactly because of the irony of our BB promoting free speech and helping members. Nice catch!

  • Welp. I just got my first rejection letter. Well, it was an email, but it still counts. I submitted a short story to a magazine a while back, and I finally heard back. At the time I thought it was good, but rereading it made me realize it wasn’t quite as incredible as I initially thought. That’s just the way it goes, I suppose. I already kinda knew this was gonna happen anyways, so it doesn’t really hurt... much.

  • I adopted a succulent plant from my mom the other day. She said they usually die under her care, so she has to buy a new one every couple of months. Now, I’ve been thinking of trying gardening for a while now, so I decided I’d take care of it to see if I have a green thumb. Anyways, my sister keeps asking me what I’m going to name the plant, cause I guess that’s just a thing we do, but I have no idea what to call it. Anyone here got any ideas?

  • I'm back online, just two and a half weeks later than expected. But hey, better late than never!

  • Think I'm gonna have to go offline for a little while, probably about a week. I've been putting too much pressure on myself to write, and trying to balance it and school and fun is getting to be too much. So I'm taking a little break, so that when I come back, I'll be able to be more productive, and hopefully have some better balance in my life.

    Well this is unexpected...

  • Winter break is like getting one of those little sample spoons at an ice cream parlor, then having to wait another six months to get the full cone in summer. Freedom tastes better when you get to eat it all at once.

  • @ReviewBuddy tagged me about the whole #ReviewResolutions thing, so I thought I'd make mine real quick.

All I really want is to get a little more consistent with my reviewing, so I figure I'll just try for at least 2 reviews per week. Seeing as I have a few other projects right now it's probably all I can manage, but it's certianly better than what I have been doing until now.

    ReviewBuddy You can do it!

  • It's funny how motivated we feel to change after new years. If you ignore the calendar change, it's just like any other time. We can make change at any point in our lives, we just have the positive peer pressure to help us along during the first few weeks of January.

Mageheart I've been thinking the same thing!

  • Took my cat in to get declawed yesterday. I feel kinda bad about it, like I'm somehow taking a piece of her dignity in doing this, but the rest of my family really wanted it to happen. We're getting new furniture, and don't want her scratching it...

  • Last week I had two papers to write, and I've got another due this Tuesday. It's weird, because as much as I enjoy writing stories and poems, papers stress me out. Am I the only one who feels this way?

Lib *raises hand* Papers have a mission. Wanna know what it is? They're trying to kill meeeee.

  • Sometimes, I wish I had a suitcase like the one from Fantastic Beasts. I'd put my entire bedroom in it and carry it everywhere I went.

Lib Same! But I'd probably add a lifetime supply of cookies in there too.

jster02 It'd be really nice if they were magical cookies that never got cold and were healthy, so I wouldn't get sick after eating too many. (Why does sugar taste so good if it's so bad for us anyways)?
