  • Sometimes, you just need to hide in your room to eat potatoes and find a show with lgbt characters in it

Mageheart I'm not sure what streaming services you have, but I've heard that The Shannara Chronicles has some lgbtq+ rep in the second season! Uhhh, Lucifer - which I think is on Hulu? - has a bunch of queer characters.

  • I don't know how all of you can write 100k+ novels. I always struggle to have enough content, not vice versa. Anyone else have to add a lot in editing?

Vervain one way I've found to fix this is basically to write a "draft 0" -- which is like, "here's all the stuff that happens roughly in order with some description/dialogue but not all of it". Usually it'll end up around 5k or so if you go into each scene you want to have, and it gives you an idea of where you'll have to change stuff around to fix it, and gives you an early look at the idea all put together.

then when you go to write draft 1, use draft 0 as a jumping point and add emotion, detail, and description from there!

Mea It's also just okay for your first draft to be really short! My first draft of my first novel was only about 60k, and I didn't really start adding a lot of words until the the third draft, which I'm currently working on. Sometimes it just takes that long for all the ideas to gel together.

  • 2 college visits down, 1 to go! I'll actually be spending a week on campus as part of a writing camp with this final college, so I'm really looking forward to that. Again, I'm sorry about the late reviews that will undoubtedly cause, but I'll try to make them up quickly.

  • I'm super busy this month, so this is an apology to everyone whose LMS novels I'm reviewing I WILL review them; it just might take a while because I've been away from home for most of the month, and I'm going to be gone again startibg the 22nd.

  • Fireworks kind of make me sad.

    rosette why so?

inktopus Whoops! Didn't see this reply. For some reason, they remind me of a consumerist mindset. I couldn't tell you why exactly. They just seem so disposable.

  • I know they shouldn't, but tampons intimidate me. It's not fear of TSS or anything, I just don't want to put them in. I know it's just a matter of getting used to them, but are tampons worth getting to swim on your period?

Mageheart I actually have a way to get around using tampons when you want to swim on a period. It's not incredibly comfortable, but it's something my family came up with because I'm in the same boat as you. All you do is get a pair of athletic shorts to wear over your swim suit. (It looks better with a bikini than a one piece.) Put the pad on the actual swimsuit and, tada! You can swim on your period. You just have to make sure to change it afterwards.

Lauren2010 It's totally ok for tampons to intimidate you! There's no reason you have to use them and I've known lots of people who menstruate who don't like tampons for a variety of reasons. Use whatever period products make the most sense for you and your body.

  • update on my stiches: they seem to be coming out. I'm not bleeding, thank goodness, but it's still rather worrying

Mea I believe this is mostly normal for small stitches - I got stitches in my ear once, and they just came out over time after the wound had healed.
    Jun 27, 2018

inktopus I got them in on Monday, so we're going to call the office tomorrow to see what we should do. It's really weird to have a dangly string in my mouth

  • Of course the first time I get stitches, they're in my mouth. I can't do anything normally. I also have this sick chain in my mouth now

  • College applications are a strange mix of straightforward and confounding. They haven't asked for my transcripts!! Am I supposed to send them? What do I do? I feel so out of my depth, and as the oldest kid, it's not like my mom has any recent experience with the process of applying.

On the bright side, I'm more inclined to write so that I can avoid this process.

Mea I feel your pain. Definitely talk to your school's guidance counselor a lot if you can - they'll have a lot of experience with it (though if your situation is abnormal in some way they may not be as helpful). The other big thing is - call the colleges your applying to and ask questions! They have help lines set up specifically for anything you need to know. They want you to have a positive experience so you'll apply to the school. :D

  • If anyone is willing to do a trade, I'll review their #LMS novel for regular reviews on my WIP. It's probably a bit unfair because I have 20+ chapters, but the offer stands.

A brief summary: Asha Balewa is a mage fresh out of school with no friends, no job, and no funds to speak of. Then, she gets an offer she seemingly can't refuse. However, her strong morals and sense of duty force her to decline, and she is imprisoned. With the help of a mysterious ally, Asha sets forth on a quest to protect her people from a predatory country who wants to enslave them.

deleted221222 I can probably do it for you. It may be infrequent and might take time for me to reach your current chapter, but I'll try.

Shady I’d be interested in a swap as well, if you’d be open to following more than one LMS novel. Just let me know :)

(You can find details about my novel here, if you want to check it out before you decide)
