After living across 8 states and 14 houses/apartments/dorms I can finally say we have bought a home!

Maybe it is the poet in me, but the idea of "home" has always meant a lot to me. You might know my username "alliyah" is based on the Hebrew term "aliyah" which means to pilgrimage or "return home". For the longest time my "About Me" From section on YWS has just said, "not home yet" (more in reference to earth not being my final destination, but also in reference to living in a state of waiting to return or go home.) Of my poetry themes; ancestry, love and homesickness are always the most constant. So, I'm excited, super excited. We have an overgrown little flowerbed where I'm going to transfer my suffering outdoor potted plants from my apartment, we have a little skylight over our fireplace-room to look up and see stars, we have a sunroom for our cat to wander in and plop down, and plenty of cupboard space to store all my church coffee mugs I've been collecting, and a fenced in back yard to watch birds and bugs and write poetry. and a spooky basement for ghosts to lurk We have a lot of cleaning and moving and some construction work next but Ah! Things are exciting! Thanks for the well wishes! ~~~

Tomorrow is house-closing day!

Don't be afraid to give the YWS Scavenger Hunt a try, even if you're new or not able to answer all the questions - you'll probably find some pretty cool things about YWS in the process and may even find yourself in the running for a medal!

I always have a ton of fun putting these together, and though there are two questions I think are rather mischievous because of the lengths a person needs to go through to find the answer, none of them levels up to the time that I had a question requiring combing through multiple Squills issues to find a reference to find a fun fact about ketchup. xD These questions are much kinder, but hopefully still a lot of fun!

What about a shrek themed yws olympics? All the same events, only make it shrek themed... maybe 2025?

Okay my heart can't handle all of these YWS legends and icons popping back on to the site all at once to say hello after their hiatuses - I think last week we've heard from @Magebird, @starlitmind, and now @kattee If you haven't met these folks they are delightful, please take my word for it.

I am always saying we should have like a big YWS reunion every 3 years or so where everyone is invited to log back on and look around to see what's new and share an update if they'd like.

Nice to hear from you all and wishing you well in your slice of the world.

Outside of NaPo I think the YWS Olympics is my favorite event - be sure to check it out and get involved in the fun and games!

part 4/5 of house buying updates on this season of alliyah tries to buy a house

WELL - after much mayhem, we decided to ditch previous bank as (in addition to consistently spelling both of our names wrong on legal documents) they had some very unreasonable closing requirements that would have basically delayed closing for 6 months and most certainly would have lost us the house we made an offer on if we stayed with them.

ie. one of their reqs was that we must have a new roof before closing, when there are no current leaks and all of the roofers in our county are booked until 2025 because there have been TWO tornadoes that went through our town this Spring. So, while this might have been reasonable for the big city kids to ask this in their big city, it was a totally unreasonable and unmanageable requirement for our region, and the type of delay that would have most certainly made our seller ditch our offer and go with someone who could close more quickly because as I mentioned earlier the housing market is CHAOTIC right now. This was just one of 5 unreasonable requests by the bank.

So we're ditching Big Name Bank 1 and picking up little local bank 2 -> and are already getting so much better customer service AND a better interest rate somehow?

All this means... closing on the house will be delayed another month instead of closing on Aug 2 like we were really hoping for. Which is aggravating that I'll have to pay rent + insurance + utilities for September in two different places. But at least things are looking hopeful again, and we won't have to start from scratch looking for houses again. And if all goes well we'll close on the house end of August and be able to move-in end of September.
