  • This line comes from book 4, and yet I am amused how much it perfectly sums up the series:

It was an insane idea, Cyrus decided, and if it weren't for their desperate situation, he would have never agreed to it.

  • Hear me out:

What if I took the long-winded, info-dump chapter in Book 3 and deleted a third of it so it was more interesting.

  • "Why am I happy?"

...I am not sure what the story is behind this doodle, but it is hilarious. XD

AilahEvelynMae I love this so much. I sense a rising philosopher in your household. “I remember when I was a child I didn’t only feel happiness, I questioned it.”

  • There are FOUR characters that have names starting with A in this scene and I might not have chosen their names very well...

TheMythMaster I have the same problem...

Kaia @alliyah will definitely agree with you that A is a wonderful letter to begin a characters name with, hehe.

  • A quick lab-grown meat rant...

    Spoiler! :
Okay, so I looked at how lab-grown meat is made and I *thought* that perhaps they came up with some novel way to grow meat using some sort of lattice structure, which is how they try to grow organs, but apparently lab-grown meat is made in large bioreactors which grows animal muscle cell slurries which they combine in some sort of ground meat form. And, having a biochemical engineering degree in which I learned how to design and maintain these systems, which are often used in the pharmaceutical industry, I cannot think of a worse way to make meat. It is prohibitively expensive, uses a tremendous amount of energy and resources (it is not environmentally friendly AT ALL) and just... no.

It is a necessary evil for the pharmaceutical company, but... meat can be made in other ways.

It is better for the environment to kill the animal humanely.

  • Okay, but also... this picture keeps amusing me because this scene looks so peaceful and possibly even romantic, which is just... not what is happening at all. XD

To demonstrate, when my nephew was at this scene of Book 2, he was literally screaming, "NO, NO, NOOOOOOOO!!!! WHYYYYYYYYY. I DON'T THINK I CAN READ ANYMORE." And when @Spearmint was reading this scene, she was like, "YEAH, THERE'S GOING TO BE A FIGHT."

Also, this makes it look like a bad regency romance novel, haha. XD

  • Me: "Currently in the story, multiple characters are depending on Alainna to stay quiet and not say anything at all."

    Matthew: "Well, that's a mistake."

    Me: "Yeeeeeah."

  • SO. I was rewriting a chapter. And then I realized an obvious plot hole. And now I realize that the chapter should go another way. It will end the same way, but it will be even more of an emotional roller coaster and I am just. Can I handle this??? I am not sure if I can handle this... ;.;

  • Spoiler! :
Okay, but that part of the chapter is so cool, but also it doesn't BELONG, but also it's kind of necessary and that's the only place it can go so what am I supposed to dooooooo????

  • I want to second this. If I wanted an AI to give me a review, I could just feed my stuff to the AI bot and ask it to give me a review. But that's not what I want! I want to see if you emotionally connect with it and how. And no AI bot is that good. So, if you don't know how to start with your review, just write out your emotional response to the work! That would be better than anything AI could ever do.
alliyah wrote:I can understand why it might be tempting to use AI to write a review, especially if you read a work and are just not sure where to start - be confident in your feedback though because authors want to hear from you as a reader not from a robot. Reviewing is something that takes a little time and effort to get the hang of, but when you really give it your best can actually be a really fun way to read, help you make friends and connections on the site, and teaches you invaluable info about what works and doesn't work in the writing process.

If you are stuck, rather than turning to AI, try out some of the review templates out there like my Review S'More or make up one yourself.

If you see an AI review out there you can help the mods out by using the "contact mods" button or PM-ing one of us with a green username. None of us want to see YWS overran by spam or AI reviews, as that would be pretty sad and probably make people stop posting here. Let's all do our part to keep this wonderful site going by posting, reviewing, and not spamming. <3333
Spearmint wrote:Friendly reminder from your neighborhood mods that you can report any AI-generated review spam you see! These reviews are typically in third person and use a lot of fancy vocabulary, and they're against our site rules because they're both plagiarism and review spam.

The easiest way to report spam is to PM an active mod (either a junior moderator or a global moderator). You can see the current list of mods here!

And finally, a link to a good resource with review tips! Writing reviews doesn't have to be hard-- you can use something as simple as the critique sandwich (what you liked / what the author can improve / a short conclusion). Happy reviewing!!

Today I bent the truth to be kind, and I have no regret, for I am far surer of what is kind than I am of what is true.
