  • Snoink I want to point out that this is a relatively small creek and the bridge, before it got added to the beaver dam, could cross the span the length of the bridge entirely. But it cannot now. It is a lake.

  • Okay, quick writing rant...

    Spoiler! :
SO. I have this character. Anytime he shows up, things go INSANE. Fortunately, he hasn't really shown up for most of this series. He was absent from Books 1 and 2 entirely (which is good, lol) and only showed up briefly for Book 3. But he has a fairly major role in Book 4.

Anyway. I am writing a serious scene and it is supposed to be serious and everyone is acting serious because things are SERIOUS, DARNIT and so much SERIOUSNESS is happening because EVERYTHING IS SERIOUS.

    But.

At one point, this crazy character has to be introduced. And here I am, trying to write this very serious scene, and this character is just... acting like a crazy person and it's making the scene all goofy and I am just... do I let this relatively minor character steal the scene??? Is there any way to keep this character from acting completely wild???? WHAT SHOULD I DO????

Worse, he is making this scene HILARIOUS and I love writing comedy so I am very tempted to let him keep doing his thing because LOL WTF IS GOING ON THIS IS HILARIOUS but also... the end is near and things have to end and the stuff that is happening is actually serious and I need to resolve that...

    But also. XD

    Fishr Diamea?
    Feb 6, 2024

Snoink Oy... Diamea is also a crazy character, haha. But he is a major character, whereas this one is definitely minor.

    Spoiler! :
I somehow really badly injured my back and it hurts to stand and it hurts to sit and it hurts to lay down in the same place for too long but it also hurts to move and I need help so much and I can't pick up my kids -- any of them! -- which is not good for several reasons and so I am basically bedridden on horrible pain medication and I feel really guilty because that means Matthew is doing everything, but like. There's only one of him and there is so much to do, but also I need to recover and if I screw up my back anymore then it's going to take longer to heal and I am just. so. frustrated. Matthew is taking it like a champ and is reminding me that there is progress... like, today I was able to take off my socks!!! Which sounds dumb but Matthew has been helping me take off and put on socks for the last couple of days, and so the fact that I can take off socks is an improvement than it has been, and GUH. Also, I can shuffle around the house now!! Which is better than Saturday, where I couldn't walk without screaming and basically existed in my bed curled up with a heating pad.

I don't know. It really sucks right now and I am so frustrated and I want to heal NOW and feel better yesterday and basically be able to live again without being in constant pain and. I need to be patient.

    On a related note...

    Spoiler! :
Matthew was helping me stand up again and so he helped lift me up because I can't stand up by myself easily right now. Anyway, when I was standing and he let me go, I kind of stumbled and grabbed onto him again. Then I looked at him and I blurted out, "This SUCKS."

Mary's eyes grew wide... this is language that we try not to encourage at home. :P Also, this might be the first time that she's heard me say this word.

Anyway, at dinner today, Mary said to her brother, "Mommy said the S WORD today when she got up from the couch. I heard her say it!"

    SO WHOOPS. MY BAD.

    On the plus side...

    Spoiler! :
The 49ers have made it to the Super Bowl!!! I am very excited. My plan is to crochet tiny red and gold footballs for all of the kids with "SF" embroidered on them. I am also making a little 49ers lovey for the baby, since he loves loveys, with a football attached to a red and gold blanket. Since I can finally sit up now (yay, improvement!) and I have a tremendous amount of free time seeing as I literally cannot do anything right now (boooo) I am going to try to get this all done before the Super Bowl so that the kids can be excited for this Sunday. :) I am really hoping we win... that would make me so unbelievably happy. All the kids are avowed 49er fans too, which also makes me happy because they honestly don't have to be. The 49ers are my team, seeing as I grew up in the Bay Area, but they've never lived there. Matthew doesn't care for them either... frankly, he's not a huge football fan, haha. So they are siding with me and that makes me happy.

Anyway, if you could post funny memes on my wall, I would really appreciate it. ^^

Spearmint i hope you get well soon, Snoink!! <333

    (Sorry.)

    Spoiler! :
I had to delete Threads (not my account, just the app) because people are fighting about romances needing a "Happily Ever After"/"Happy For Now" and I just can't. Apparently Titanic, La La Land, The Notebook, Gone With the Wind, Casablanca, Roman Holiday etc aren't romances (I understand these are all movies, but my point stands) but "love stories" and don't you dare ever call them a romance because HOW DARE YOU THE ONE THING ROMANCES ALWAYS HAVE IS A HAPPILY EVER AFTER!!!

(I'm not trying to be disrespectful but this is seriously how some of these people come across, and they lost me when I saw someone brag about how they told someone who's book doesn't have a HEA to (f off back to chick lit land) and frankly these people come across like bullies and proudly boast about 1-starring books if they feel they're incorrectly marketed as romances.

I probed someone as to the reasons for this and I wasn't really satisfied by the answer, it basically was like "reader expectations". She was like "you wouldn't write a murder mystery where you don't solve the murder" except I did just that whoops.

These people probably think the second act of Into the Woods should have been cut and yeah... that's not my audience.

They also said "you wouldn't mess with a proven recipe that's worked for centuries for the sake of changing it up"

... Um, what? It's writing a story, not engineering or building something.

Personally, as a reader I'm down with anything as long as it makes sense in the context of the story, and I don't engage with stories because I know exactly what I'm going to get, but the opposite.

I doubt it's as bad as you think in your head - know your story, be confident in it, and others will see that. <3
