  • Out of curiosity, when I have a better medium for typing, which would you guys rather see (apart from some long-overdue reviews lol): an update to Delirium, a new short story, or another attempt at poetry?? :)

EllieMae Ooooh, I would choose all of the above but if I can only do one, I would say poetry!!

  • Well I just got asked a weird question (or maybe it’s not weird and I’m thinking it weird?) I’ll explain why and ask it to you guys lol;

    Spoiler! :
My coworkers we’re buzzing about some new movie (I think?), when one suddenly pivots and asks who my favorite actor is. And I am so confused because in my head, I’m asking myself, “wait, is that a thing? People have favorite actors?” I have genuinely never given it thought because I do not think of celebrities—or if I do, they’re long-dead authors XD

Anyway, at first I was like “does the favorite have to be like, whoever played your favorite role in a movie?” Then I’d have defaulted to David Bowie. But thinking more all-encompassing, it changed to either Johnny Depp, Robin Williams, or Gillian Anderson. Then I got accused of being “old school” and they asked who that latter was, and I’m like DaNa ScUlLy?!?!

Anyway, what would your answer/justification be here? Lol

Messenger It's a normal question. I definitely watch Tom Cruise movies for him. But, in our generation the movie star is dying so it's fitting to get called old-school
    Jan 15, 2025

ToastK it's asked quite commonly, especially when the topic of celebrities come up, or even as an icebreaker question. For me, I can never memorize the name of any of those actors, let alone the name they had for roles, so my answers would often times be like "oh, the blonde girl in xxxx show" and stuff like that.
My favorite actor is Youn Yuh-jung (totally didn't need to search up her name xD). She is the first korean to be nomitated (and to win) an oscar for best supporting actress, and the first korean woman ever to have won any type of oscar. She's still up and running with her career at the age of 77 and is such an inspiration.

  • An update on Echo: her fan arrived early, so that’s ready to be replaced! Unfortunately…one of my dam dogs chewed through her power cord, so now I have that to fix too, AGHHHH. Is this device cursed, or does the universe suddenly hate MSI?? >.>

(I know, venting about an out-of-order laptop is kinda cringe, but I am actually sad about this—and I can’t really do anything well from the tablet so I can’t be as productive as normal ToT)

EllieMae I totally understand the pain of have an inaccessible laptop!! Last summer (on a review day... a few hours before it started) I dropped my laptop in the parking lop and it just... died. Those days of waiting to get it fixed were SO HARD because as writers we type so much!! Plus not having your usual tabs open and images saved is annoying too :( I hope you can get the cord fixed/replaced. I belive in you, Raven :) almost there!
    Jan 15, 2025

RavenAkuma Thanks Ellie! <33 You’re so right about that, and I admit, it doesn’t help that I sort of bond to some devices (probably a result of naming them and just hating change lol)

  • Most famous Poe quotes are mysterious, deep, maybe a little bit creepy. And then there are these ones:

”If you wish to forget anything on the spot, make a note that this thing is to be remembered.”

  • *when someone is saying some absolutely insufferable sh*t but you’re supposed to be “Ms Neutral” and not explode, lest everyone believe you’re the crazy one. In an alternate universe…I am screaming ‘:D

    Anyone else get that feeling??

RangerofIthilien YES way too often in fact

    Spoiler! :
I’m sorry if I’ve been coming across as less…I don’t even know, less “Raven”-ey? Ruder? Annoying? Less patient, more on-edge? I don’t know what it is, but there are some things going on in the Akuma household lately (with the human residents this time) and for some reason, I’m not really feeling myself at all. I try not to let it affect my online stuff, but I feel like it’s starting to manifest here too, sorry X_X

  • Confirmed: trying to write either reviews or chapters via *outdated, battery-deficient* tablet sucks. Formatting especially, absolute nightmare XD I’ll keep trying but this may turn into a hiatus.

Thankfully, Echo’s replacement fan should be here by Wednesday so fingers crossed it won’t last long!!

  • spottedpebble This photo has great composition and makes me feel like writing a poem on it and then running away into a snow-covered forest. I approve.

  • [loudmouth Raven on something specific that’s driving her crazy in the media response to the la fires, to clarify something—was as neutral and non-opinionated as possible, but skip if you’re already exhausted by this genre of content]

    Spoiler! :
Okay, can I just clarify something, as a former resident, for anyone having a hard time following the drama being thrown around?

CA authority is given chance to divert water from NorCal to SoCal to aid both agriculture and drought conditions. That is a true story from 2020-2021.

CA authority rejected the notion by saying SoCal was not in a drought, and it would endanger the declining delta smelt fish species (even though they *still* refuse to rebuild a population in captivity).

CA authority, weeks after that declaration, declares record-lowest water availability and renews state of emergency over drought, which remains in effect.

CA authority denies water shortages, or shortages aiding the spread of the fire (e.g, the “empty hydrants” thing).

CA authority victim-blames by claiming residents in some neighborhoods hosing down their lawns is reducing water availability.

Which is it then?? Is the state in a drought or not?? Answer: yes, CA has constantly been in and out of drought for as long as I (or my parents/grandparents) can remember.

There have been other concerns circulating for years now, such as the refusal to update SEVERELY outdated powerlines and water infrastructure, and continually reducing funds for fire stations and forest management (the state ranks No. 4 in deforestation, but focuses on coastal and redwood trees rather than the ones that are *actual* fire hazards I guess??). Oh, and further victim-blaming!

Is any of this directly responsible for the fire? No. Are hecklers helping by making it all political and taking attention off of the victims? Definitely not. At the same time, is it cool to let the pendulum swing so far that we give cover for the state’s real problems? Big no (PLEASE, no).

Anyway, let’s stop giving politicians our time and thank the people who deserve it in this situation—first responders and the people volunteering to help. They’re the real heroes. And let’s pray for the victims being affected by the fire of course, because this really is a devastating disaster.

ToastK a point i want to make:
    Spoiler! :
the funny thing about blaming residents for hosing down their gardens is... that's literally nothing. Compared to the water usage in California, personal use for water is a fraction of what companies and agriculture sectors use. In fact, the agriculture sector uses way more water, and they're wasting water usage on water heavy crops like avocados (which california is the lead producer of) just bc of some complicated tax stuff. Yes, you need to save water where you can, and yes, wasting water is just plain... uh... not so intelligent. But, I think a way more macro scale management of water is needed from the government especially since global warming has been hitting California particularly hard with water related struggles.

  • Feeling spicy lately for some reason. Thinking about posting some lyrics >:}

  • *Update: Good and bad—it’s one of Echo’s fans making the noise (which is a HUGE relief as we thought it might be the graphics card). My brother disabled it to see if she can run on just the backup fans and copper cooling, but she’s still running pretty hot and it’s all around sketchy. We’re gonna see about replacing the fan, but one thing for sure: I am stuck on tablet for longer than I thought :’)

RavenAkuma wrote:Well, Echo started screeching and making noises like a cricket, so I guess I’m stuck on tablet for the time being >.> On the bright side, my star bug is gone here…

*edit: I just realized how weird this sounds—Echo is my laptop, and yes I name my devices XD

theromanticchemist my dad had us name our family devices too! i think he wanted us to think twice before we did something that might break them. i specifically remember one of our family laptops was named "fry" (don't ask me why--) and my dad left it out on the roof of his car when we moved and it got stolen. so in the end, it really backfired because i cried for weeks over a laptop named fry.

RavenAkuma Oh no, not fry!! Ngl I will cry too if I wind up losing Echo here so you are not alone ToT

  • This meme makes a good point--why DO flammable and inflammable have the same definition?? XDDD

  • Just now realized my next review star is 24 reviews away...I feel like it's taunting me >.>

Anyway, I'll be trying to build up a queue and seeing if I can reach that goal by the end of January. If you have anything you want reviewed, let me know! It's always great to work on GR pieces, but if you have a piece you'd like extra insight on, or an older work that needs a little love thrown its way, I am available! :D

NovemberCrow Well…maybe you can check out first chapter of Clockwheel Cities I published some time ago (it’s an older one, so if there are some GR in you queue already, definitely take them first :D) and I would like to know what people think about first chapter before publishing second one, and I always find your reviews very helpful! ^^
    Jan 8, 2025

RavenAkuma Sure thing, Kay! I'll add it to the list! :D

There was nothing he enjoyed more than a good book. He'd wander into the study, take down some leather-bound volume, and eat it.
