  • The amount of people who use generative AI in my creative writing class is honestly just sad. Like I guarantee anything you write is already better than whatever ChatGPT can come up with solely because it's written by an actual person. And it's no fun to give feedback on something that they didn't actually write :/ it's just a waste of time.

EllieMae I’m not in classes this semester, but my major (sociology) is super reading and paper writing heavy. The amount of AI I saw with students just putting our readings into AI and then asking for it to generate the paper for the prompt is insane! I really want to take more English classes, like you mentioned, but I am honestly scared of how much AI I will have to see.

yamiryre not quite the same thing, but i'm in an art class (mixed w/ middle schoolers + college students) and it's all very hands-on stuff, and yesterday the teachers asked us what kind of artistic activities (ex. painting, sculpting) we'd interested in doing and this one college student said AI art?? as in, you decided to go to art school, face certain student debt, and you want to use AI art in here?? personally, it was baffling... it disappointed me a bit. like, what did you choose this class for then? loll

Hey friends! We are about half way through april- which means we are also halfway through the Spoken Word/Visual Poetry Contest! As we get closer towards the end of the month, now is the time to continue working on your amazing poems and getting ready to submit them to the contest thread. The thread is open all month for submissions. I am definitely getting pretty close to submitting some of my own poems as well and I can’t wait to see all of yours!

I wanted to post some #SpokenWord2024 tips to help you get started with creating visual and spoken word poetry!

I found this video to be really informative and helpful in learning some different forms of visual poetry. If you are looking for some new methods to experiment, I definitely recommend taking a peek at that.

And if you are looking for some inspiration to write and record spoken word poems, I recommend checking out the Button Poetry Youtube channel. I do not have the words to express how much I love this organization. So many of their poems have touched me deeply and are really the reason I got into slam poems and spoken word poemns in the first place.

I wanted to take a moment to say that I am blown away by all of the incredible NaPo poems I have been able to read so far this month! I have also seen some incredible visual poetry published, that I wanted to take some time to acknowledge and shoutout!

I tell the neophyte: Write a million words–the absolute best you can write, then throw it all away and bravely turn your back on what you have written. At that point, you’re ready to begin.
