  • Hi everyone!

    Apparently it's been two years to the day since I last posted a status update, which feels kind of fitting. A *lot* has happened in those two years. Mostly three big life changes:

    1) I graduated with my bachelor's in Computer Science in spring of 2022!
    2) I started a full time job and furnished my first apartment.
    3) And, in March of 2023, I married my wonderful husband!

    So lots of good stuff, but life has been a little crazy. Writing hasn't taken a complete backseat, but it has definitely been slower-paced.

    As I've started my career in tech and now that I'm married, I've had to re-evaluate my goals and my relationship with writing. I still want to build a writing career, but the fact that it's probably never going to pay the bills anywhere near as reliably as my tech job means I have to take a really hard look at how much time I can actually invest into it while balancing work and family. And I just don't know what that looks like yet.

    So why am I back here? Well, for one, YWS has always still felt like home. I don't have any writer friends IRL who are still writing, and I really miss the sense of writerly community.

    I'd love to talk to any of you all about your publishing goals or opportunities for writing communities you've found. I kind of never broke into writing Twitter, and now it seems like it's basically dead, oops. I know Tiktok is a thing, but I'd really prefer a text format.

    Also, if anyone would like a critique partner for SFF, especially middle grade fiction, let me know! I've been trying to find a writing group, but they all meet in person, and an async style of feedback would be way better for me.

    I'm still hanging on to writing twitter although it's definitely not what it used to be. A lot of people have moved over to Instagram and I've also heard that people have moved to Bluesky which is a Twitter-esque model, but you have to be invited to join and I don't know a ton about it. There's also a lot of stuff on Discord, but I'm also not really in that either.

    When I first married about ten years ago, I too had a bit of a challenge juggling writing (and art, really) with the newness of everything else. You'll get better at it, honestly! I make time writing now... it is fun. :)

    If you want to trade novels for reviewing, I've written almost four fantasy novels in the last couple years so... um... yeah. ^^ Still not sure what I want to do with them, as far as publishing goes, but I want to finish the series first while it's still in my head, so yeah.
