A couple of people around the site have been sharing their thoughts on the recent supreme court decision, so I thought I would.
I have five siblings adopted from china, all of which I love very much. One has down-syndrome. My sister Eve is sassy, genuinely hilarous, and loving and I wouldn't trade anything for my time with her. We bond over fart jokes, Uno, and Jane Austen movies. But, if her parents in china would have known about her condition, they would have most likely aborted her if they had been given the chance. They would have taken my sister from me.
Many people say that Abortion is about protecting the mother and their health, but the statistics simply don't agree with that. A small minority of abortions in America today are done because the woman is in danger.
Most statistics show that at most less than 5% of all abortains in America were because the mother was in physical danger, and less than 1% are due to rape or incest. And even with those outliers issues, almost all states who are now banning abortion make exceptions for danger to the mother or rape or incest, so those "rights" aren't being taken away.
Abortion is not about protecting the mother, it is about destroying families and ignoring the natural consequences of sex.
We should be supporting families so that having a child is not as much of an inconvenience, and importantly, we need to make adoption an easier option. I have five adopted siblings, I'm so glad they are able to exist and be a part of my family. There are so many families out there who feel the same.
Please, protect the rights of unborn citizains. Respect the sanctity of our life. It is horrifying that in the modern-day, we kill someone because they are inconvenient to us.
As someone with 2 biological siblings who were born at "inconvenient" times, I'm eternally grateful my parents were willing to work through that so I can have them here today, and I am infinitely grateful that my five adopted siblings were put up for adoption, and not killed.
So that's my two cents. Please, consider adoption and supporting families instead of just making it easier to do away with the inconvenience. The unborn have rights as well.
