  • Thank you very much for your review! I really do appreciate it. I'm not at all surprised that you felt lost in it--it's a lot more abstract than what I usually do, and it's sort of an experiment for me. I'm also thinking that I should probably move it to Other for this reason.

And yes, I would also absolutely love to go to the top of the Empire State in a blizzard. One day maybe.

Thanks again! Do PM me if you want me to reciprocate.

  • I am so going to miss peach and plum juice when I get back to the US.

Hey there I know I should've probably sent this in the form of a PM, but I am not good at doing that, so I've decided to post this on your wall instead.

I appreciate everyone who has given feedback to Porngraphy Kiss. I appreciate even more how people have critiqued it. I have to say, a lot of the comments made me positive to continue, and finally finish the novel.

However, this is way easier said than done. In fact, I am not sure if it is going to be finished at all. So, for the time being, I have offically postponed the project. There are four reasons for this, which I shall go into a bit of detail about each one.

    A) I have another project I am working on, called The National Slaughterhouse, which is concerning similar things. Therefore, I may not have the time to do both. Also, because they both concern the themes of brainwash and exploitation, I may not be in the right mind state for writing two novels about slaughter and pain at any given time.

    B) The subject matter itself has been keeping me up all night, writing down any idea I have got. It is also a very serious idea for a novel and maybe a bit too ambitious for it's own good. This may lead to the final product being not as good as I intended it to be, which worries me. Because of that ongoing idea of Robert's struggle with himself and reality, it has come to me this makes no sense to some readers. I can't develop characters properly either, so there goes good development.

    C) My grandfather is in hospital, therefore I am extremely worried that he might die. His kidneys are slowly shutting down, and I have shut myself out of the outside world to write, which is selfish of me. I need to bring my concern to his health as well as to the safety of other people in my family.

    D) I have serious writer's block. I seem to be throwing random stuff at the wall and trying to see if it will stick. Take chapter 4, for example. What the hell goes on? I don't know, I seriously couldn't tell myself. While many people say to get inspiration from something, I simply can't. For all I know, Robert could just have sex with someone and that will be the end.

Like empressoftheuniverse said to me, this novel is the best thing that happened to her soul. In that case, this novel has been the worst thing to happen to my soul. Sorry.

Jelly I enjoyed reading Pornography Kiss, but if writing it is having such negative effects, then I fully support the hiatus. If a project is so draining in a bad way and you don't think it's your best work, I think that it's best to take a break. I hope your grandfather will be all right. And that you'll feel better. :)

MasterGrieves Thanks I have decided to focus primarily on my new project, The Nation's Slaughterhouse. I originally wrote a possible preface, about two kids who shoot up a school. Well, I have officially scrapped that and replaced it with something else. Perhaps I should show you some time?

Hi- 567ajt here. Just wanted to wonder something.

Where do you get your ideas from? They are very original and they are used in a very unique way. Do you carry a notebook around with you? I do, yet my ideas don't go so good on paper. How do you make your pieces special?

I want to know this because- as many writers often are- I need a bit of advice on a chapter in my novel Pornography Kiss. It is a session between him and the counsellor. This is the second session, therefore my aim is to build up tension as the sessions go on. Have you got any advice on building the tension up, from his point of view, but without the use of profanity?

I always feel conscious whenever wanting to add a part with tension- I usually have add a few 'f' bombs. However, I am aware that this is a time in the novel to develop more characters and to have more tension but without the use of 'fuck'. Because, as we all know, the word 'fuck' cannot carry a story the whole way through.

If I get the chance to reply, I will. I am very rarely offline. Unless I'm listening to songs about buildings and food lol. Cheers x

Jelly I swear I left a reply here...
Anyway, thank you! I don't carry a notebook around, but I've always found it a cool idea and I want to start soon. I'm terrible at pre-planning, so I usually improvise and see where I get from there. Any notion of what I'm going to write beforehand usually stays mental. (Oh god, this is such terrible advice.) I expect to have the same problem with noting my ideas when I do start using a notebook though.
I'm not great at this sort of thing by any means, but I suppose a good tool would be dialogue and action (duh, yeah I know). Maybe creating something "off" or strained about the way sentences are delivered, choppiness, raised voice, odd pauses. I have this weird thing for really developed character voices... xD As for the actions, I was referring to small atmospheric habits that might effect the tone?
And ha, 'fuck' can totally carry stories through. Obviously.
Yeah, and now we know why I shouldn't be allowed to give people advice.

    BUILDINGS AND FOOD! I LIKE.

    Jul 24, 2011

MasterGrieves Indeed buildings and food. In fact, I have an album called More Songs About Buildings And Food by Talking Heads. You should listen to it- I think it's your kind of thing. Very down to earth, upbeat songs about- well, you guessed it- very offbeat subject matter.

Hey Jelly! Thanks a bunch for the review :) I'm glad you don't find the start lengthy or the dialogue too harsh. I wrote it in a couple of hours so I didn't know if it seemed too rushed or not. The idea suddenly hit me and I had to write it down, you know? Thanks again :) Oh, and a very delayed welcome to YWS!

Jelly You're super-duper welcome. I know how you feel with the rushed-ness, everything I do is so short that I never exceed a couple hours. And I only wish I had more experience with ideas suddenly hitting me. I often turn to generator sites for inspiration. And thanks, it's been a blast so far.
