  • :O you went to Greece?! how was it (other than the heat xD)? did you see the Parthenon?
also, thank you for always being so kind <3 appreciate you, Icy!!

IcyFlame It was beautiful! Lots of lovely food and the old town of Rhodes was stunning. No Parthenon because we weren't near Athens, but climbed to the Lindos acropolis!

IcyFlame I was in Rhodes on holiday! Did some day trips to nearby islands, wandered around the old town and generally tried not to melt

Let's keep it up and the green room will be clear before we even realize it! Remember you don't have to do one a day or one a week, just one whenever you happen to be free this month, and it will make an impact!

Hello friends! It is almost May, which means that it is almost time for the next Free Verse Competition to begin! First of all, I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who participated in the March 2024 Competition, Emotions Are Freinds.

For the May 2024 Contest, our judges with be @herbalhour, @OrabellaAvenue, and @EllieMae. If you are interested in becomming a judge for a future month, please reach out to Ellie to sign up.

The prompt for the May 2024 Contes with be... "What does it mean to be alive?" Submissions open today and the contest closes at the end of May 21st. You submit all of your poems for this contest to this thread!

Here is the Grading Rubric that represents what our judges will be looking at when they grade submissions.

Here are some of the rules of the contest, for anyone who is joining for the first time or wants a refresher of the rules.

    Spoiler! :

What will the contests be like?

Each month, I will post a prompt. This will be the prompt for the month. The prompt will be posted on the club wall, and also in the forum for that month's contest. If you go to the forum page for this club, you will see a forum titled May Contest.

What do I write for the contest?

Each participant may submit up to five free verse poems per month to be considered in the contest. Poems must be submitted in the forum for that month's contests to be considered. If you would prefer to publish your poem on YWS via the publishing center, you may also do that and submit a link to the published poem in the forum.

There is no length minimum or maximum for poems. They may be typed, handwritten, drawn, recorded, spoken, or anything you can think of! The awesome thing about free verse is that it can take any form. Creativity is greatly encouraged! If your poem is posted on a platform outside of YWS (like YouTube, etc) you may also submit a link to that in the submission forum.

Do my poems need to include the prompt directly?

Nope! The poem does not need to quote the prompt. The prompt is a guiding tool, but there is no expectation as to what the poem will be about or what direction it should go. This is totally up to you and how you want to express yourself. The prompt should be considered while writing, but should not act as a constraint as to what you should or should not write.

    When are poems due?

Poems will be accepted until the 21st day of each month, giving you three months of that month to work on submissions. The fourth week of each month will be used for selecting that month's winner. If you are in some sort of situation where you did not have access to the internet to submit a poem, or there was a technical error, that caused you to miss the deadline, please reach out to me (@EllieMae).

If you have any questions, please reach out to EllieMae! Can't wait to read all of your amazing poems!
