Hi rida!
I'm missing your poetry! Have any in the works? Hope you are well! :]
rida Hi lliyah!
Aww thank you! <3
I’m actually super caught up with school and have the biggest writer’s block in the HISTORY of writer’s blocks!
Ever since school started I’ve been drifting farther and farther from poetry because my school doesn’t really support it or even have a book club so I’m not sure what to do…
Help?

lliyah Hey that's totally fair! And I believe school definitely comes first. My suggestion to get out of writer's block is you need some poetry seeds to get poetry flowers :] be on the look-out for poetry seeds ie. things that sound poetic in just normal conversation, views outside, things you see, things random people say and write down the snippets. I often carry around 1 notebook just for that, and before I know it I have all of these poetry seeds and something from that list will catch my eye and demand to be written into a poem. Basically my advice is don't try to force yourself to write a giant poem - ease into it by looking for inspiration first!Though I also understand big writer's blocks! I didn't write much this summer since I was busy with other things and also wanted to focus on editing, don't beat yourself up too much about it, but also I hope you never quit, because you've got so much spirit and talent in your poetry! <3
As far as finding community at your school - if you happen to find anyone else who writes poetry - trading poems can be fun or sharing poem recommendations, but sometimes those folks are hard to find! I've only had a couple friends in real life who actually enjoyed writing poetry too - so am glad to be involved with YWS!
Good luck! You've got this!

Hiya rida! How've you been? I really enjoyed your Squills article - those animations are so creative, and it's interesting to see your interpretation of the first one.
rida Hi Lim! I’m good, thanks! ^_^
What about you?
I’m so glad you enjoyed my Squills article! Your Poetry Through The Ages articles actually inspired me!! I’m super excited for the next article!

Last year Lim led us in collecting a beautiful group of haiku poems for #MayHaikuMonth , and this year we're going to give it a try again! Come on, it'll be fun!
How to Participate?
1. Go to the May Haiku Submission Thread and Submit one haiku on any subject, and one haiku that has something to do with yourself (could be about who you are, a hobby of yours an aspect of your personality, you name it!)
2. After all the poems are collected here, they will be compiled into a single beautiful PDF that you could print, save, or share as you please.Spoiler! :

Poem A Week wrote:Just as you're getting ready to rest your poetry muscles for another year - let me share with you a low-key fun season to keep the poetry joy going this month ... It's May Haiku! (#MayHaiku or #MayHaikuMonth ) Every year on YWS and in other places on the internet, May is celebrated as the month for Haiku (because it's the 5th month, and there are 5 syllables in the first line of a haiku). So watch out for the Haiku Activities around the site all month and maybe even some fun Haiku Challenges? And back by popular demand, last year @Liminality hosted a beautiful challenge / collection to gather up the haikus of many YWS writers into the May Haiku Collection. This year we'll have another collection so watch for that thread to come around. To participate in May Haiku you don't need to hit a certain quota, just post some haiku around the site ~ you could try one a day or one a week if you really want to but it's fairly chill!
In the meantime here's some of my favorite YWS Haiku Activities:
* Haiku Battle
* Haiku Train
* Haiku Battle!
* Life by Haiku
* #ShareAHaiku (use this hashtag to share a haiku to your friendsor enemies?)Spoiler! :

(Wrote a poem inspired by Earth Day~)
our breaths become earthen—
earthen, our breaths stutter,
somewhere, the fanfare of our
false & murderous victory plays.
Galileo’s finger on display- still pointing up,
as if proving something- is a metaphor,
i think it’s about the persistent voices of scientists
and all their warnings that we ignore.
What do you think?

ur poetry is fantastic
like the moon in the night sky
or the cirrus clouds on high
Have a #freinshippoems for YWS's 18th birthday! So glad that you're on the site!
