You seen The Last Jedi yet?

LukeStarkiller I have, and I think I need to see it again to sort out exactly how I feel about it. The whole point of the movie was kind of just subverting people's expectations, and I can see why some fans are ticked off about it. I loved the handling of Snoke, but I can see how some people would hate it, especially if they've spent the last two years coming up with intricate fan theories.

So I do think it's very flawed as a Star Wars movie and doesn't work very well with The Force Awakens. That being said, I absolutely loved it as a movie. The third act especially blew me away. Every time it cut to a wide shot during the Crait battle sequence, I got tears in my 'cause it was so beautiful.

People have complained about the Finn and Rose plotline, and how it was so unnecessary. I see that, and the movie could have been shorter, but I suppose they wanted to hit home that the movie is really about the plans of the Resistance failing, because by the end, there are like 20 Resistance fighters left. The only plan that really worked was Admiral Holdough's light speed KO, but I felt like that should have been Leia.

So I loved it as a movie, but I can see why people don't love it as a Star Wars movie, if that makes sense. I'm SO interested to hear your opinion, now that I got my rant out of the way.

ChieTheWriter Ya, I agree. I think pretty much exactly the same way about it. The lightspeed "KO" seriously could have been done in the beginning right after they got everyone off and bam, problem solved and more fighters left. But I do see how that was kind of a last resort because it was losing one of their last cruisers.

I personally thought Rose and Finn going off would have made more sense if it wasn't solely to fail the mission and end up getting captured and then fight Phasma. And of course include the little Jedi kid at the end with the broom -_- Besides that oh my gosh when they rode those things that was awesome and one of my favorite scenes.

All in all, it wasn't a repeat of Empire, and my expectations weren't that high. I had hopes along the lines of: "As long as Kylo doesn't turn to the light side, Rey isn't extremely overpowered, and it's not a repeat of Empire, then it'll be an ok movie."

I liked it and need to watch it again. It was pretty good. Not the best by a long shot, but a heck of a lot better than the prequels.

The original concept name for Luke Skywalker?

    Dude.

LukeStarkiller A long time ago, on a sign-up page far, far away . . .

I couldn't think of a username, so I called up one of my friends who happens to be a big Star Wars fan (I am a moderate one), and he gave me the best suggestion of my life.

    Thanks for the recognition!

Hi and welcome to YWS! I'm Mage! If you ever have any questions, feel free to come to me! ☆

Here's some helpful parts of YWS that can help you understand how things work on the site:

    Welcome Mat
    Knowledge Base - YWS
    FAQ
    FAQ For New Users
    YWS Critique Sandwich

If I can't answer your questions, or I'm not on when you have one, you can always ask the users whose names are in green (moderators) or red (administrators). Other users would be happy to help as well! ☆

What type of things do you like to write? I write fantasy novels that are sometimes also mysteries, and enjoy writing realistic fiction short stories.

Also, since this is always a fun question to ask, what is your favorite book or book series?

LukeStarkiller Hi, Mage! I'm still sort of finding my identity as a writer, but I've gravitated towards sci-fi that takes place in the real world (that, like you, is sometimes also mystery). The ten or so novels that I've started have all fizzled out, so I'm trying my hand at short stories currently.

I'd have to go with The Glass Sentence by S.E. Grove as my favorite book, and although it stands on its own very well, it's the first in a trilogy, so I would also count it as a series. What caught me was the initial premise: basically, the entire world is thrown into different time periods, and mapmaking becomes a rare, lost art. A lot of it takes place in the late 1800s, which is the time period of most of the Eastern Seaboard in the book, and the author has some pretty neat and original ideas about different ways of bringing maps to life (that do have fantastical elements).

Thanks for "showing me the ropes," as it were, and good luck! Do you have a book or author that you could point to if someone asked you to give them anything at all to read?

    - Questions and Answers

I'm here to chat if you'd like to talk sometime. I hope you have a great time here on YWS!

And, out of curiosity, how did you come up with that username? I like it!

    ~BlueSunset :D

LukeStarkiller Thanks so much! I can't claim to have invented my username; it was originally supposed to be the name of the main character in Star Wars, but I think they changed the last name to Skywalker because they thought Starkiller implied violence (and Jedi were supposed to be non-violent or at least never strike first). So as soon as I heard that, I guess I thought it would make a great username.

I love your username as well! Have you considered writing a poem with Blue Sunset as the title? I think it might work pretty well.

BlueSunset Cool! What a backstory to your username.

And thanks - I haven't tried writing a poem with that title, but maybe in the future. Lovely meeting you!
