  • sadness feels heavier underwater
even as my body is weightless.

under waves the only sound i hear
is the tick-tock of life ebbing away

    like ocean tides, pulled forward
and pushed back by the moon's rays.

like sand falling through an hourglass,
only to be tipped back over again.

    sadness feels heavier underwater,
when everything is distorted through blue-tinted glasses.

    i cannot discard them,
no matter how hard i try.

    everything is ripples,
stars gliding past on silky night strands.

i am dragged upwards by calloused hands,
and met with joyous smiles and shining eyes.

"that's gotta be a new record"
they cry, fingers wrapped around my wrist.

    little do they know,
    sadness is heavier underwater.
