Loves a funny thing.
An angel named Azerial seems to believe that fact, being on earth for so long he has seen many things he would think to be quite silly. Like paying fifthly dollars for one single shirt, for example, or dressing very nice with boots and big hoop earrings just to go to a store to buy a CD then come simply back home. Being with Samera for nineteen years he has seen these things and wondered, why? Azerial is a Guardian Angel and Samera is the girl he was assigned to when she was born, he is suppose to keep eye over her until her death day.
Azerial also likes to go shopping, he loves to wear white and bright colors, and baby blue is his favorite color. Blue is also the color of his eyes, he also has spiky blond hair that is always messy. He has the look of a normal twenty year old but he has been a Guardian Angel for many decades. He isn’t very tall but he isn’t very short either, but he doesn’t care about his appearance, he believes everyone has beauty in their own way.
Of all the silly things in the world he believes that love is the silliest one of them all. Samera has pictures of a boy posted all over her room with tiny red hearts and most of them read 'I love you'. He finds this kind of odd, he loves animals and flowers but he doesn’t post them it all over the place. Samera calls this certain boy her boyfriend.
Instead he found a book entitled, I Love You Always. Well, the word 'love' was on the cover so it had to be something about girlfriends and boyfriends he thought. He read this book for days on end hardly ever sitting it down, it was about a young girl and a young boy that fell in love and did all kinds of nice things together such as going on picnics near lakes with many flowers and trees. And then eventually getting married and having a baby. Azerial thought this idea was all fine and well and decided he wanted a girlfriend so he could do nice stuff like this with.
***
It was a warm spring day, early Saturday morning and Azerial was found lounging in the local park with his good friend Loki playing checkers on a stone table complete with benches.
"You want a girlfriend? Why?"
"I just thought it would be nice, I read this book I found and it was very sweet," Azerial said moving a red checker piece and hopped it over three of his opponents’ checkers.
"Well you know how it is down here, you should hear some of the stories Gabriel has told," Loki said staring at the board thinking of a next move.
"Gabriel? Isn’t his job to get all the humans together and married and such?"
"Yep, he says it’s getting harder and harder, everyone wants to cheat on everyone. And kill their wife’s and everything, its horrible." Loki said finally making eye contact.
"Well I would never do that."
"Of course, you wouldn’t. But we're angels, we couldn’t possibly think of doing that."
"But I do think every once in a while about locking the gates on Hope."
"I know. He drives me loony."
A nice game of checkers would make anyone lose contact with the outside world and just be in trance for a good while, as Azerial and Loki played on they didn’t seem to notice a girl to be flying towards them at a fast rate holding a skateboard. Before they knew it she fell against the stone table knocking all checkers and the board onto the ground.
"Oh dear, are you ok?" Azerial asked getting off his seat to help her up off the ground.
"Yah, I'm fine!" The girl said jumping up, dusting the dirt off her purple shirt.
"Are you hurt or anything?"
"I’m good, I'm a tough girl."
"Well, here’s your skateboard," Azerial said picking up the skateboard of the ground.
"Oh that’s not mine," she said taking it.
"What do you mean?"
"I stole it," She said looking around breathing deeply.
But before Azerial would get a word out she replied "Opps, got to go!" And she ran off more quickly than she arrived. Azerial was speechless as she ran off down the street past a couple of trees and saw three or more cops chasing right behind her. He had no idea what to think of what just happened, he had heard of people stealing but she seemed she was having a good time running from the cops and so on.
"What a strange girl," Loki said, when he regained his speaking ability.
"She’s very strange. But she was pretty."
"Pretty!" Loki said shocked. "If you like that kind of thing," he sniffed his nose and started to pick up the checker pieces.
***
The mystery girl was indeed pretty, as Loki said ‘if you like that sort of thing’. She had long black hair that lied to the back of her shoulder blades, light blue eyes with a shade of green, a very elegant face and a small body. She had a purple shirt on with a sword on fire and wore baggy black jeans, he thought she looked nice. She had to be one of the prettiest girls he had ever seen he even felt a weird rumble in his stomach when he thought of her. He remembered this feeling he had read about it in his book, it was the essence of having butterflies in your stomach and that’s how it felt. He wondered how those got there.
As faith would have it one day while Azerial was in his angel form following around Samera he saw her, the beautiful girl with the stolen skateboard, they were in same clothes store together she was trying on black leather boots. They seemed to have chains and buckles on them. They looked nice on her.
Then he noticed Samera walk up to the girl and hug her, what is going on? He thought.
"Hey woman what’s going on?" the girl said as she let go of Samera.
"Nothing just shopping, I wanted to see what you were into."
"Buying some boots for this concert tonight, you want to go?"
"Na, I’m not into that music you like, but I got to go Fabel, bye!"
"Later."
Azerial thought he was back on a cloud, floating among the stars, her name was, "Fabel."
Being an angel is very useful when you do your daily work you can change to your angel form, to where you’re invisible and you have your wings so it doesn’t take long to travel and you have your powers. He could make people have a better day by helping them out with something he could make flowers grow, anything really. And then when his daily work was finished he could turn into human form, to where he looked just like everyone else. He has talked to Samera many times like this, he finds her interesting and funny, he’s glad to be her guardian angel.
Being that it was the end of the day he decided to find this 'concert' and find her and maybe have a lovely chat and become friends. He had heard through the word of mouth that there were always concerts at this old brick building across from the movie theater in town. So he grew out his wings and flew over to the other side of town to hear very loud music and many people in a huge crowd outside the front doors. He flew down to the back of the building, drew his wings in and walked around to the front.
There she was. All beautiful and wonderful wearing a red dress with black boots, she was with a large group of people and he decided to wait until she was by herself because he didn’t want to interrupt them, it would be rude. As he stood there he felt more and more out of place, most of these people had piercing and tattoos, even though they were quite beautiful just like Fabel. Time came as she walked inside and he walked after her, she was finally alone.
"Got your ticket man?" said a very large male at the door.
"My ticket?"
"Oh you're paying the front price then, seven dollars."
"Of course," he said confused and pulled a ten dollar bill out and handed it to the man.
"I'll get your change hang on," he said turning around to a bottle filled with dollars.
"No that’s ok you can keep it,"
The man looked strangely at him, smiled and then replied, "Hey thanks go on in."
"Thank you," he said and walked in the door.
Now I got to find her, he thought walking around the huge building.
There were stands selling pop and candy, many were selling shirts and CDs. Then he saw her behind a table, sitting while listening to a CD player with headphones. He decided to walk up to her and say hello.
But wait what am I going to say?
"Hey you, kid!" He turned quickly to his right and it was the girl, standing behind her stand staring right at him.
"Me?"
"No, that pink elephant behind you. Come here!" she shouted over all the music.
He walked slowly over to her table noticing all the shirts, pins, and CDs lying about. "Yes?"
"You are the checker player in the park aren’t you?"
"Yes I am."
"I’m that wild chick who stole the skateboard, remember me?"
"Yes I do."
"Well that’s awesome, are you going to listen to my band when I’m up?"
"You have a band?" Azerial asked amazed.
"Of course, I sing we're called 'Hit-N-Run', killer huh?"
"Well that’s not a nice name," he said looking at a shirt with a gun on it with blood spurts.
"Ha. I like you. You tell it like it is, even if it’s not cool or not."
"Thank you, I like you too."
Silence.
"There’s something about you, your essence."
Could she tell he was an angel? He had never met anyone who could even take a guess at him probably, maybe being an angel. She had to be something other than a human, maybe she was an angel too?
"My... What about my essence?"
"Yesss...” she hissed as if she were a snake in disguise.” It is very odd."
"Well... I'v... I've got to go. It... Was nice seeing you," he uttered breathlessly between clenched teeth.
"Wait, don’t leave!" cried Fabel as he ran off in a hurry.
As a fit of cool breeze blew his scent by her face she breathed in deeply, closed her eyes and she whispered, "Angel."
***
Azerial couldn’t think of any other way that experience could have gotten any worse; she sure didn’t look like any angel I have ever seen. He thought as he sat high above on the beautiful Catholic Church roof on 5th street, his wings at his side. He sat and pondered and pondered some more trying to think of any logical explain, maybe she wasn’t even talking about his angel aura, maybe something else? Such as him feeling out of place, and being drawn to a new place he thought he would ever dwell.
Days passed as more and more flowers bloomed along parks and school yards, and Azerial was to be found in the local rose garden talking to the flowers.
"Promise me you won’t tell Mother Nature about this, she tends to get testy when we mess in her work." Azerial whispered to a white rose as it bloomed beautifully into a full blossom.
"Hey. Angel."
It was all it took for the angel to stop dead in his tracks as if he were shot, he stood in surprise to why would anyone ever do such a thing to a young man just standing around in a garden. He slowly turned around his head facing his newly polished white shoes took a deep breath and raised his head. It was her.
"How..."
"Don’t worry how, all you need to know is you’re on my ground now." Fabel ordered a frightening fierceness in her voice.
"Well I’m quiet sorry if have been on your... ground."
"You need to go back to your nice little cloud and stay there." she said with deliberation, as her fingers picked a red rose and started picking off each petal.
"Who are you?" the angel prompted.
"Don’t you worry," she began as she started walking towards him, "You'll find out soon enough."
As she walked by him they stared into each others eyes for a split second and she flashed fire flames in her eyes, this didn’t unnerve him, he just knew all along this was no good. This infliction with the mystery dark girl, there was no way he could ever speak to her again, being that she now seemed very frightening, she was also a demon.
**
Azerial has dealt with demons before this wasn’t something he was new to, even though she was a tad bit scary than all the rest. He couldn’t believe he was attracted to her, a demon! He couldn’t see how it happened, unless…
“She put a spell on you?” his friend Loki asked as they sat on stone benches by a gorgeous fountain covered by vines of roses.
“That has to be the logical explanation, I mean she is a demon, our main purpose is to abolish them.”
“Yes that would be the reason for guardian angels, to protect.”
“I mean I have a wonderful girl to look over and I really love my job but…”
“What is it Azerial?” Loki asked looking thoughtfully at his brother.
“But,” he paused for a second, looked down at the secondhand book that lied in his two hands and said, “I still want her.”
This has to have been the most confusing problem of Azerial’s long life, while he was in heaven he never had this problem and he was there for at least 3000 years. All he had to worry about was where he could he get a decent wing cleaning. From the moment he met her in the park he had never stopped dreaming about her, he hated feeling this way he wanted to see her but he knew he couldn’t and now she hated him. As he sat lonely in Samera’s apartment that night he couldn’t understand it he had only talked to her twice and there was no question about it he had to see her again, so he thought up a plan to find her.
**
Lounging around in her bedroom with two of her closest demon friends, Raven and Naria, they were having a nice conversion about Azerial. He would have given anything to have heard about what they were saying, maybe it could have saved him but then again everything isn’t what it seems.
“I can’t believe I was actually becoming friends with that…” her body shoke as if she was shaking off the coldness that lingered in her heart. Angel.”
“That’s disgusting! But I would have lov-ed to have met him,” said her friend Raven, who was so a demon.
“I bet you would have,” Fabel said as she chuckled.
“I would have played with him… Just for a little while,” Raven said as she picked up Fabel’s voodoo doll lying alone on her nightstand, “Touched him, loved him and then…” then she slowly ran her hand over the voodoo dolls head and ripped it from the seams.
“I always thought you were into the innocent type.” Naria spoke.
“You have no idea, and tonight? I’ll show you just what I mean.”
**
As Samera lied in her bed asleep, Azerial knew she was safe so he flew out her open window into the warm night with his gorgeous white feathers blowing in the wind, he was going to find Fabel by smelling her out. Demons had a different scent about them than humans and angels. Demons smelled like Halloween, burning leaves and old trees drifting in the air. For him it would have been very easy to find her amongst the crowd of the city. He was on the trail of a scent and it was leading him towards the same old concert building.
Then he heard it, her voice it was drawing him near like a moth to a flame he didn’t need her scent any longer he listened to the words of her song.
Come onto me you white winged dream
Let your whispers kiss my ear
I need to dance with you tonight
What do you see behind the eyes of a fallen angel?
It was beautiful as if it came straight down crashing from heaven.
She was calling out to him, she wanted him just as bad as he wanted her, this feeling in his stomach he had never felt before, it was an odd new feeling it was like he insides were burning as soon as he landed in the alley of the building, he pulled his wings in but it was like he were still flying it was a wonderful feeling he wondered if everyone felt like this when they wanted to spend every moment with someone.
He walked closer to the entrance there were hundreds of people as usual, the guy at the door who always asked you for your ticket was missing so he walked through the door her voice busting off the walls and running all over his body, drowning him in her words of need.
Then he saw her, in a black lace dress that came down to her knees, shoestring thin straps that held up over her perfect shoulders. She looked beyond beautiful, like he were looking at her for the first time. He walked through the crowd staring, staring at her staring back at him. As she sang her hands loosely held her microphone, and her lips opened and closed softly and slowly as the worlds flowed from her black heart, she was wearing those new boots they went perfectly with her dress.
He had no idea what he was going to say or do but he was getting more and more nervous by the second. By the time the song was over he was shaking, he thought about leaving but he had to talk to her again he had to hell her what she does to him and how ashamed he was because of it, how he finally got his wish to know what love felt like.
**
When the music stopped his heart stopped as well, as she walked off stage through hundreds of people trying to get her attention, all trying to get a hold of what he so desperately wanted. He stood frozen in the one spot he stood for a solid seven minutes.
There she stood in front of Azerial, a vision of heaven he had so long missed.
“What do you want,” she asked, as she combed her hand through his hair.
“You.”
“Come with me then.”
“Where are we going?”
“Just shut up and don’t worry,” she said as she put her index finger over his lips.
**
Back in the main rear of the building was a huge room by itself with many couches, a coffee table and a TV, how lovely he thought as she grabbed both of his hands and put them around her waist. He was trying to think about anything but her.
Uh… uh puppies, flowers, her eyes, uh no! Ice cream.
She started to kiss him but Azerial turned my head and pressed his cheek against hers and told her, “I’m scared.”
“Now my precious angel,” she chuckled. “Why would you be scared?”
“Because… uh of you and what might happen.”
“What do you mean?” she asked unbuttoning his white shirt, eyes on his chest.
“Bad things happen when you’re in love.”
“Aw… you’re too sweet,” she said sarcastically pinching his nose. “Just go sit down, ok?”
“Yes, Fabel.”
Azerial had no idea what was going on, and he had no idea what he was doing He knew he shouldn’t be there but Samera had always said, follow your heart. She followed him as he walked over to large red leather sofa, as he turned around to face her, Fabel pushed him down on the seat, climbed on top of him tucked her legs beside his and kissed him.
Hard and rough.
She grabbed at his skin and scratched him deep with her long nails, but he didn’t care he had what he wanted. Azerial placed his hands on her cheeks to slow her down and kissed her slowly, his tongue ran over hers so passionately. He wanted to tell her he finally knew what it was to love someone madly, but he couldn’t.
“Fuck me Azerial,” she shouted as she parted from his lips and stared him in the eyes.
“I’ll make love to you.”
“Don’t get all sappy on me, I hate that shit,” she said as she pulled her dress over her head, reviling a red bra and no panties. No surprise there... She was so beautifully curved and shaped. He just looked at her body, feeling her stomach, her legs, her chest.
“I’m yours.”
**
‘Making love’ was an odd experience, it was like we were one person the whole time, it seemed we held on to each other forever, she never let me go and I never stopped kissing her. I told her I loved her but she didn’t say it back, I guess she didn’t have to but I would liked to hear her say it. It was really, very nice I had always read in books the lovers would wake up together and maybe have a cup of coffee but I didn’t like coffee, Fabel also wasn’t here when I woke up.
I wondered where she was, I was sort of lonely lying there naked in a strange building I thought, “I will just find her later.”
Meanwhile Fabel was off bragging to her friends down at a local bar where they bought her drinks.
“He even told me he loved me! I mean come on!” she said standing with her hands at her sides, her friends Raven and Naria laughing along with her.
“Oh man, I wish I could have been there! I bet it was classic.”
“Oh it was,” Fabel said taking another drink of her vodka.
“You just wait until the master hears about this; you will be on top of the mountain!” Naria said.
“Yah I’m pretty proud of myself, I might just go find him right now. But this time it’s going to be worse.” Taking another drink and smashing the bottle onto the table.
“I think you just became my own personal hero!” Raven said as Fabel walked out the bars open doors.
**
Azerial sat alone at a patio table of a nearby coffee shop he went over the night before in his mind over and over again.
Each time he did he felt happier but felt shameful also. He knew he was in big trouble and he had done the worst thing an angel could ever do. He didn’t know what to do, he just wished that he could see Fabel again and he would feel better. Loki had already tried once to contact him by white dove but Azerial just threw the note away without reading it. While he sat there sipping tea and reading a book he didn’t see a drunken Fabel stumble right past him on the sidewalk. And her being completely plastered she didn’t see him either, it was quite sad, two people that were looking for each other and being at least a foot away from each other.
The day lead on as a bad day for Azerial, trying as he did to stay low from Loki or anyone else from the Heavenly Kingdom, it didn’t last for long. It was the middle of the day about five thirty as he watched over Samera carefully in her backyard as she barbequed with her parents. He looked as if he were bored, sitting on their picnic table with her chin resting on the palm of his hand.
Then he heard a voice, booming from overhead, “AZERIAL.”
It had been so quiet the voice had caught him off guard and scared him so bad that he fell off the top of the picnic table and face first onto the grass.
“So much for having wings,” he mumbled underneath his breath.
“AZERIAL.”
“Yah, what is it.” He said in not his normal sweet loving voice.
“THERE IS SOMETHING TO BE DONE ABOUT YOU.”
“Oh really now, what would that be?” he said dusting the grass off his red shirt, standing up.
“WE ALL KNOW WHAT HAPPENED LAST NIGHT.”
“You have front row seats did you?”
“AZERIAL, WE DON’T LIKE THIS TONE.”
“Yah well, what are you going to do with me.” He said running his fingers thou this hair looking at the ground.
“THIS IS NOT ANGEL BEHAVIOR, ESPIALLY FOR ONE OF SUCH LEVEL AS YOU ARE.”
“So what are you going to do fire me?”
“YES.”
Azerial had never felt such pain and shock in his heart before; for once in his whole life he felt sadness, pain and the thought of being alone.
“How, how can you? I belong in heaven; I serve GOD above all others.” He was on his knees, begging.
“YOU HAVE DISGRACED US; WE HAVE AN IDEA OF WHAT TO DO WITH YOU.”
“You’re not going to make me go…”
“NO, WE HAVE ANOTHER IDEA.”
“What?” in a nervous tone, his body shaking all over.
“YOU ARE TO STAY HERE AND LIVE A MORTAL LIFE.”
“NO! PLEASE DON’T DO THIS!” Azerial cried falling into his hands crying out to the world.
“GOODBYE AZERIAL.”
Then it was over, he was just some handsome blond kid lying in Samera's backyard, he could no longer turn insviable, he could no longer use his wings, it was all over and he had to start from scratch. He got up from the grass, he didn’t care if Samera and her family were staring at him or not, and ran. Ran far away from that yard but he soon found out that there was no place he could run to make himself feel any better about what happened, he would never be out of their eyes.
**
“Emptiness fills up my insides
All alone with the things you left behind
This is scar I can not hide
Your love looks like blood tonight
In the shadows no one sees me cry
But this feels so right
You’re still so far away to save me from this hell
Hurts so bad to say goodbye.”
Where are you angel?
Fabel searched far and wide for the angel named Azerial, she could smell out angels, so she thought she would be an easy task. She thought wrong. She took a deep breath as the warm wind blew by her face but smelt nothing out of the way. He would have a different scent onto him, an angel drowned in lust. He would be so easy to find, it would be like finding a beautiful field covered in snow but also covered in blood. She stumbled down the street onlookers staring at her, but she didn’t care. Then it hit her, maybe he wasn’t in this city anymore, then she felt a pain in her chest. What was this?
**
As Azerial lied upon the beautiful cathic steps of the biggest church in town he wept, he knew it was over and he could do nothing about it. What he told Fabel was truer than ever, bad things happen when you’re in love. His eyes red from tears, he didn’t wipe them away from his face. He thought he deserved them, he had let his whole Holy world down, and let the devil himself have a good day, a day of victory. As the whole he belonged to, a day of disgrace.
“Why did this happen to me,” Azerial asked his tears as they rolled off his wet pale face.
“Everything, why Fabel, why did you do this to me.”
As Fabel walked down the sidewalk, unfamiliar with this feeling of pain in her chest she saw him lying at the church. But she didn’t smell him out she didn’t feel his aura any longer, what happened to him? She thought.
“Azerial!” she shouted as she walked down the sidewalk towards the church, trying very hard not to pass out.
“Fabel?” he heard her voice, but where was she? He didn’t see her anywhere.
“Boo.”
“Damn you woman.”
She was hiding behind the side of the stone steps of the church.
“Cussing, how big of an angel,” she said as she sat beside his head, resting on the cold stone.
“Well it doesn’t matter anymore.”
“Why?”
“I’m not an angel anymore.”
“Ohh, that’s why I couldn’t sense you out, what happened,”
“Just leave me alone Fabel. I’m surprised you’re even talking to me, after leaving me in that building.”
“I wanted to find you.”
“Why, I thought demons hated angels.”
“Well you’re not an angel anymore,”
“I bet that was part of some big plan you had going wasn’t it?”
“No.” she lied.
“You ruined my life Fabel. Go away.”
“No I didn’t, I didn’t make you fuck me.”
“…. Well.”
They sat awhile there, in silence, Fabel looking down at his face as he looked out at the sky. She could read his mind and it wasn’t good, for someone who was just an angel not even hours ago. There was hatred, pain, loneliness, and something she wasn’t surprised at, love. So he wasn’t an angel anymore, and it was all because of her. In a way it made her very proud of herself, but yet in way it made her feel somewhat bad.
“What did they do to you?”
“What do you think they did to me?” he said rising his tone. “They made me mortal.”
“Oh.”
“What is wrong with you anyway, you’re being nice.”
“I’m drunk.”
“Well good for you.”
“Ok this is odd. I’m being nice and your being an asshole.”
“I HAVE GOOD REASON TO BE AN ASSHOLE!” he screamed at her after sitting up to face her.
“WELL YOU DON’T HAVE TO FUCKING SCREAM AT ME!”
“YES I FUCKING DO! GO AWAY FABEL I DON’T WANT ANYTHING TO DO WITH YOU!”
As soon as those last words escaped from his lips, she took a deep breath, as if someone punched her right in the middle of her chest. She doesn’t know why she did this, and that pain in her heart wasn’t getting better either. Azerial couldn’t feel any worse and being mean to Fabel, the only girl he had fell in love with in a thousand years wasn’t making him feel any better. He didn’t like being mean and hateful, but having this much pain all at once was to much for him, he didn’t know what to do.
Why didn’t those books tell him this part about love? The gut ripping pain of having your heartbroken, why didn’t Loki tell him your heart could break? Couldn’t have someone told him how it feels to have your whole life grabbed out of your own hands. He thought he was alone before, he had never imaged what being alone was really like, to have no one to turn to, to not have a soul to be looking after you. To have someone you loved almost than life itself sitting beside you but you couldn’t stand to look at them because they sickened you.
Why wasn’t he told all this?
He couldn’t stand this any longer, to have been tricked into love, to have been a joke to all his enemies and all his enemies long after he’s gone. To have been fooled into something beautiful but turned into something ugly, he had let down everything he stood for and everyone that loved him. He was a top angel that was why he was a Guardian Angel, he was such a great person at his job, and he was trusted above all others. And he let them all down. He hated life.
He got up off the stone steps and wanted to run, run far away but he had no idea where to go, he had come to the only place he thought he could run to but even he felt unwanted, he had no right to be there.
“Where are you going?”
“This is your entire fault!”
“Ok I’m getting tried of listening to your bitchin’, you found me on your own, you tracked me down on your own, you kept talking to me after you knew I was a demon, you kept kissing me, you’re just pissed because EVERYTHING DOESN’T GO YOUR WAY!”
Then it hit him. That was the reason. It wasn’t her fault; it was his for trailing after her all this time and even having an interest in her when he knew it wasn’t allowed. He long ago betrayed his holy family, and yes he was pissed because he wasn’t an angel any longer it was all he ever known. He was pissed he couldn’t whip his wings out at any given time, he was pissed because he had no where to call his home.
Azerial fell to his knees knowing she was right and how wrong he had been about everything, he should have been dethroned long ago. Then suddenly he wasn’t mad at Fabel any longer, all he wanted to do was hold her, he could now and not feel one bit bad about it. He raised his head to see her kneeing before him her eyes glossy and red but that didn’t matter he placed his hand on her face and kissed her.
**
“What the hell Azerial?” Fabel said when she pulled away in shock.
“I love you.”
Fabel didn’t say anything back in a hurry she kind of did a thing where she looked at the ground and opened and closed her mouth over and over again. Usually when people do this it’s when they have no idea what to say or they are embarrassed, in this case Fabel was both things, she had absolutely no idea what to say back and she was very embarrassed. She knew what she felt but it couldn’t be that, why it would be the tables turned on her! And the underworld was so pleased with her too.
“I know you love me too Fabel, you don’t have to say it.”
“No! No I don’t,” she shouted.
“Yes you do, if you didn’t you wouldn’t have come to find me and sat here with me all this time.”
He lent in to kiss her again.
“Would you stop doing that,” she said as she pushed him away.
“Why, you want to kiss me,” he said with a shy little grin.
“What got into you that made you so cocky,” “Oh right that was me.” She said as she smiled and bowed her head to hide it.
“I see you smiling, you do love me,”
“I DO ...not. I don’t Azerial. You were just some toy.”
“You’re lying.” He said with a plain expression.
“You were just some bet I had with my friends and I won.” She said as she closed her eyes, there was that pain again. “I can’t love you Azerial, I’m a demon.”

Fabel was right but only about one thing, yes she was a demon, but she could also love. Demons aren’t made to love, or trained to like normal demons are but there is still the possibility. Demons aren’t supposed too but the same goes for angels, but that didn’t stop Azerial did it? Unknown to her she did feel love for Azerial, she didn’t know what it felt like and she was too scared to even think that she was truly in love.
He was every thing she wasn’t, and she had never met someone who treated her with such kindness even thought that wasn’t her bowl of soup. She was evil, ruthless and cunning but yet in his eyes she found something to make her whole being seem like it was all for nothing.
Demons aren’t supposed to fall in love, but she did.

It had been a whole three days since Fabel drunkenly ran from Azerial that sunny day, after she told him she couldn’t love him, he swore he saw tears in her eyes that day.
That’s probably why she took off, he thought.
Meanwhile being a human was not at all easy as Samera made it out to be, he now got a weird feeling in his stomach every so many hours, so he found random things in garbage cans and ate them, (he heard of eating so he decided maybe that was it). Sometimes it made him feel worse; he didn’t know why he always seen humans eating all the time it wasn’t a very pleasant experience, for him anyway. He also wanted to lye down at night and close his eyes and somehow in a few minutes it would be morning. When he first did it he thought he had died and tried hard to fly which I would guess you know the results.
Unknowing to Azerial, he was getting dirtier by the day his clothes no longer the perfect pearl white and baby blue. The dirt caked into his beautiful blond locks, making him unknowable, also his new home was now nothing more than an old bridge. In good news, after finding out about Fabel's new conquest the demons of the underworld were very pleased with her work and promoted her to Chaos Demon.
Now ‘Hell’ has many people call it, looks exactly how you picture it. That’s the magic of it, if the demons found any image of terror and fright in your tiny little mind they would fix it to perfection. They skies were the way they looked on a excellent Halloween night, black as coal, the red full moon breaking in between the black clouds as bats and other things that went bump in the night flew thought the magnificent sky.
It was just like earth, but more Chaos and demons and other unworldly things running about. It also had Fabel walking around in her normal form, snakelike skin, tiny red horns, white eyes, and beautiful black dragon-like wings. She was walking to the main office of the Underworld to talk to the main head-over-everybody demon, Drake.
As she opened the red door she saw him sitting in his leather computer chair, she always thought he was very attractive, with his green eyes, black long hair and goatee.
“We are very pleased with you Fabel,” Drake said as soon as she shut the door.
“Yah, I know,”
“I always knew you were going to be a very promising demon,”
“Yah, what did you want me for,”
“I have your first assignment,”
“And it would be?”
“To cause an earthquake in Los Angeous.”
As sugar gum drops danced around in her head, an eleven year old somewhere was trying to buy cigarettes. The time was going to be eleven forty two, the exact time Azerial and Fabel made love for that firs time. And the results were going to be the same, pain, misery, and the thought of a sexy porn video. Big tall things coming down? Yah you get what I mean.

Meanwhile Azerial’s brother was assigned to Azerial’s old assignment, Samera. And he has taken his job very seriously, he didn’t run about chasing girls and never revealed his human form to her, unlike Azerial did. Like I said before Azerial and Loki were to much like opposites to be brothers, Azerial was a little more rebellious and didn’t care to much for the rules just like back in the old world. Loki had told Azerial he was going to get in a world of trouble if he didn’t stop reading those “love” books and sure enough he was right.
Those books filled his head with hope and dreams he didn’t get anywhere else, and the thought of never being with another worldly being or human being didn’t settle with him and just made him want a companion even more. After being one of the first people to ever be on the new world it takes its toil on you your personality changes because you’re in a different environment and things are in a totally different form.

As the crystal clear rain dropped on top of Azerial’s dirty blond locks he knew he was truly alone. Underneath an old broken down bridge was no place for an angel, but for an ex guardian angel who ashamed “heaven” Azerial thought it was perfect. He had thought about killing himself but he didn’t know where he would end up, he thought “heaven” wouldn’t have him back and “hell” didn’t sound very inviting. As many people think you don’t go to “hell” just for being a bad person while you were alive, everyone goes to that wonderful place, it’s the releasing of the soul that puts you at ease and you have complete peace.
In addition in possibly going to “hell” Fabel would be there, and in some ways the thought was horrible, poor embarrassment. When he thought of her, his heart burned like fire and he felt remorse in his mind. He had seen her around at bars, her fans following her every step that she paid no attention to but this didn’t stop them. Usually Azerial would hide in the shadows off to where no one could catch a glimpse of his tear streaked face. And there he would see her walking so gracefully in all her glory, his heart would break a little more.

In the darkness of the night around the first day of fall, Fabel was out on the town like she was every night, lately things had been going very well for her, she was one of the most important demons right now and Drake was very proud of her, she had anything she wanted. Meanwhile her music career had been sky rocketing, she was rich beyond her wildest dreams, she was showered in gold and diamonds, the finest cars to get her from point a to point b. Everyone wanted her, and everyone want to be her, but with all this at her feet she was not happy, and the end of the day all she wanted to do was drown herself in massive amounts of alcohol.
When you are something not of this world the humanly rules of dieing more than likely does not apply, for example Fabel could drink her self into a lifeless stupor and easily wake up after she had slept it off whereas anyone else would have died from alcohol poisoning along with liver failure. Yes, it’s that bad. She started to turn away her friends Raven and Naria when they wanted to go out and party she turned away Draven who was increasing friendlier by the day and grew more annoying, Fabel was a loner now not like before when she had a crowd following her around like a goddess.
Back in the day before this “love” thing and a so-innocent-its-cute beautiful angel popped up out of nowhere she was a legend. Do you really think an ice berg really sunk the Titanic?
Now she was a wreck with the world at her fingertips and did nothing about it. While a barely sober Fabel stumbled down that street that night in the rain she didn’t expect to see a shivering, dirty Azerial lying at her feet, she also didn’t expect to have such pity for him.
“So this is what has become of you,” she said as soon as she noticed him in the shade of the pale moonlight.
“Yep, sitting in the god-forsaken rain, freezing my ass off,” he said with tiny strands of wet hair covering his face while his eyes faced the ground.
“Now I would have never imaged you were an angel…. Want to hang out?”
“Shut the fuck up Fabel,” he said with strong words but his voice very weak.
“No seriously,”
“Why do you even talk to me?” the ex-angel said finally looking up at her wet face.
“Because you love me,”
Azerial looked at her as if he choked on her words as he inhaled.
“It’s the truth,”
“Where do you stay… not that I care,” he lied.
“On the other side of town in an apartment,”
Silence...
Lately, the thought of Azerial or just a plain good nap was all that made Fabel happy these days, Why the nap you ask? That was the only place where she and Azerial could be together. But this feeling for sure wasn’t love, she kept telling herself he was just a new friend to have fun with, a new face to look at instead of all the old stale ones she saw everyday. But when it comes down to where you’re lying to yourself about how you feel about a certain someone, your head over heels.
“I have all kinds of liquor; you can drink with me,”
“Drink what?”
“Vodka, whiskey, rum…” Fabel called off the bottles of liquor on her fingers as she glared off into the black sky.
“What the hell is that?” he interrupted as he shoke his head in the middle of list.
“You drink them and you feel all happy and wonderful but it makes you dizzy and somewhat sick afterwards,”
“Bullshit,” Azerial replied.
“No really man, come on I’ll show you, I can even show you more tricks I know,” she said with a grin complete with a wink.
“Fuck you!” he said with rage and kicked her in the knee sending her in the mud on her butt.
But Fabel thought this was quite funny; as she laughed she pulled her hands out of the deep watery mud and showed Azerial as the mud slid of her just like water down a glass window and said. “I only get dirty when I want you asshole,”
Azerial just looked away.
“Come on angel,”
“No and stop calling me angel,”
“I’ll feed you,”
Uh…” When Azerial’s eyes stare off in space you can tell he’s thinking deeply about something. It didn’t take long to decide on this one. “I see what you’re doing,” he said while pointing at her with his dirty index finger. “This is just another trick.”
“You know deep down you want to, I mean things can’t get any worse.”
This was true, he was already kicked out of the Heavenly Kingdom, he was no longer an guardian angel, and things wasn’t getting any better sleeping under bridges and in the streets.
Azerial punched the wet ground beside him and said, “Let’s go.”
The whole walk there was nerve wrecking, every time they made a turn he thought of some demon or one of Fabel’s friends hiding in the darkness waiting for him, to cause him even more pain and embarrassment, to taint him and tease him at how he was tricked into something so personal, she made him have such feelings of love and understanding and then in a second they all were ripped away from him just because he was just some big joke.
“Hey, stop being a pussy,”
“I’m not being a …pussy,”
“Yah you are, you act like someone is going to jump out and kill you,” she thought for a min and then looked at him with a concern in her eyes and continued. “Well you do have that draw back now.”
“Thanks a lot for reminding me.” He said still looking around.
“Do you think I’m making you walk this way just so someone can jump you?”
“It sounds about right,” Azerial replied in a snotty tone.
“I may be evil but I’m not going to do that to you,” she said looking at the ground.
And for the second time ever in his life it sounded like he hurt her feelings, he can’t help but be an asshole to everyone around him. It usually happens to the best of people, they have everything and then when it takes taken away from them in a blink of an eye they become bitter and hateful the rest of their life. Now Azerial had become one of these unpleasant people and like most people who mess up their life they like to blame it on other people to have someone else to blame other than their self.
“You’re a bastard you know that,” Fabel said as she stopped in her tracks and looked at him dead center in the eyes.
“Well you’re a bitch,”
She stared at him a good second before she started laughing, “I really like how you’ve turned out.”

Being a undercover demon has its advantage, you get to live a normal life like a normal human being and like angel’s, you could turn into human form at any given time but you led a life like anyone else, you could have a job, your own house, you could even get married if you wanted to but as soon as Drake called, you had to change into your demon form and be at his side the second he called. The demon form usually consisted of black dragon-like wings, horns and green snake-like skin.
The only difference between males and females in the Underworld was males had long horns and females like Fabel had tiny little horns, but up on earth it was a different story they looked just like any human being. This all worked out for Fabel, she had one of the best bands out there, she had her own apartment, she even went to the grocery store like humans do, while demons were in their human form they had the option to eat or not, Fabel didn’t eat for nourishment she ate mainly for the taste.
Which was the complete opposite now that Fabel was fixing almost everything in the kitchen for Azerial to eat, he had never tried the good foods that are made for eating, like baked chicken or even mashed potatoes he had only ate basically trash and food people had dropped or thrown out the window of their moving metal boxes. Azerial was also impressed by the look of Fabel’s apartment, her kitchen was covered with leaves and Halloween what-nots and her living room was just plainly black and white but it was done with a artist touch, he didn’t dare ask to see her bedroom.
“Is that good?” she asked him as she sat across from him at her wooden kitchen table. Watching as every bite was placed into his perfect mouth, it was still raining outside and they could hear every raindrop as it crashed on the glass window outside, it was around one or two in the morning, her apartment was warm and comforting unlike the cold rainy streets.
“Yah tis verwy goud.” He said with a mouth full of cheesy spaghetti.
She laughed as she watched him inhale the bowl of noodles and when he asked for more. “To bad I poisoned it and you will die here pretty soon,”
He dropped the fork in a split second and gave a deadly stare at Fabel, thoughts running through his mind of either to believe her or not.
“IM JOKING! You asshole, you take everything so seriously!”
“Why do you have to do that? You know I'm a nervous wreck!”
“Well darling I’ll give you something that will calm those nerves of yours,”
Fabel got up from her chair and walked to a cabinet next to her stove, reached into the main back and pulled out a big glass bottle. She looked at Azerial with the bottle, waving it back and forth with a big gin on her face as she walked back to the table and picked up six shot glasses on her way on the counter as she retook her seat. She pushed three towards Azerial then poured an equal amount for each and watched as he formed a sour look on his face due to the smell.
“Drink up,” she said pushing one towards him.
“What is this? Is this that liquor stuff you were talking about?”
“Yah but we are going to play a little game; we are going to see who down these shot glasses first,”
“Oook doesn’t sound too hard,” Azerial said picking up a shot glass.
“You just wait,”
“Uh?”
“Oh nothing, GO!”
As soon as the vodka hit Azerial’s lips he spit it out and looked like he were about to faint. As the angel grabbed his head and made some horrible ugly faces involving sticking out his tongue and wiping his mouth on Fabel’s tablecloth, she had already downed three shot glasses.
“What was that? It tasted like cat piss,”
“How would you know how cat piss tastes like? Come on, drink it,”
As Azerial looked at her face and into her eyes, he saw them sparkle and somehow knew she really wanted him there just for company and not to play with him like some toy. He got up moved his chair closer to hers and told her if he did any drinking she had to match anything he drank and she agreed.
About two hours later and so many shot glasses that could touch the moon if placed on top of each other, Azerial found himself for the first time drunk and feeling extremely happy even though they had gotten to the point of drinking where all you can do is lye in the floor and watch as the room spins more faster than your eyes could keep up.
