NewHope CampNano didn’t go as planned. I had story ideas but they really didn’t resonate with me. I was forcing myself to write something I disagreed with in some type of meagre hope it would my Dad happy. But I thought up a lot of new ideas. Written quite a few poems. I’ve start plotting something, it’s my first time properly plotting out a book and I really hope that it helps and makes things easier.

Regarding RP Month, I really didn’t have any plans to participate at all but I know that I have completed quite a few bounties and tried to put participate in a few roleplays. Which has been fun, but I’ve also left a lot behind. I’ve been very inactive with school and sport and just struggling mentally and not wanting to talk to anyone or say anything about it.

winterwolf0100 I fight whoever my elder wants me to fight; he knows what’s best for our faction and the Conclave. In terms of what it’s like, I’ve been here since I was born, so I wouldn’t know a comparison besides the towns I’ve visited on missions. The children there are weak, giggling and playing without a care in the world, and the parents even more so for letting them. They’re all weak. I’d burn down the world if my elder told me to, because anyone he doesn’t want around must not be worthy. He’s the father I didn’t have, and I’d do anything to make sure he’s happy with me, even if it makes me squeamish at first.

Mageheart hey! i love how mutopia's just chockful of mutants. it's a safe place and a fun place, but it's just really cool stepping outside and running into other people with really awesome powers.

as for my power, i can shapeshift! i can only do people and can't copy their powers, too, but i can do scarily good impressions of them according to kyle. guess you can say i'm a natural actor.

Hi everyone! I'm, um, Kieran! Just... Kieran.

I'm the squire of the King's Assassin -- you may have heard of her. Jerica Ainsley? 😏 Yeah, that's what I thought 😤 She's a very good commander and an even better warrior and is teaching me to be a warrior, too! I'm not very good at it, yet, but she says I do better than most kids my age.

Let's see... I'm twelve years old. My parents died a few years ago, but I've been with General Ainsley for the past two years, so I've got everything I could possibly need. Food, shelter, an education -- you name it! Other than the whole being-an-orphan thing, I'm a very lucky kid. And, well, General Ainsley is an orphan, too, so I'm in good company there at least!

And, um... yeah, that's all I can think of. But, um, if you have any questions, feel free to ask! I love making new friends! But I do have to warn you if you ask me bad things then I'mma tell her what you said, so, just, be smart about what you ask, I guess? She's a little... protective... of me, sometimes. Shady Hi mint! General Ainsley taught me everything! We started with a bow and arrow and once I got kind of okay at that we moved on to training with a short sword. I'm starting to learn offensive strikes! We were on defensive blocks for a really long time -- and I kind of accidentally got hurt recently and it upset her so I'll probably have to go back to defensive for a while -- but it's super exciting to learn how to actually fight instead of just defending yourself! Plus I can read super well now! And she lets me shadow her when she does science experiments with Professor Orsetov! And I am learning how to speak Nykerian! And... math >.> but she hates math too so I only have to learn enough to get by she says. Do you like math?

Ljungtroll The Drummers are a sacred order of the Northern Realm that's working toward waking the gods. They've been asleep for a very long time and the world has fallen into chaos because of it. Nobody pays much attention to our order anymore, but we're still working hard.
I'm mostly just learning right now, but I'd really like to be head archivist of our book collection.

Ljungtroll Our order's ancestors used drums in their rituals in the hopes that the music would wake them. We do that and we give a lot of sacrifices, things like goats and cattle. We figure it takes time for the signal to get through so we've been doing it repeatedly for years.
Of course it's a good idea! They're meant to keep humanity in order and they control every aspect of the world. Everything is chaos without them. Imagine praying for rain but everything is left up to chance. We need them back.

Ljungtroll My favorite folktales? I really love the ones about stones. That might sound strange to some, but stones are very important in my culture. They signify a lot of things and the nomads believed they were actually sentient beings. As for poetry, I really enjoy observational pieces about nature and the gods. One of my favorite skalds wrote a poem titled "Trébeinmál." That means "The Matter of Trees' Bones."

SilverNight I had my hair streaked with platinum-white (it’s black naturally) and a bit spiky when I was about seventeen and I was going through a bit of a phase. Otherwise, there was a time when I was twelve or thirteen and just didn’t cut it so I had a sort-of ragged mullet down to my shoulders. Not very dignified. I don’t think I’ll ever live that down.

SilverNight I once broke out of a cell by building a flashbang right in front of a guard, while I was being searched, from spare parts I had on me. He did not notice at all. Sadly, it wasn’t a moment that can be replicated too many times, which will always be disappointing because it was a great escape.

SilverNight This might sound a little spiteful, but when we were both kids, my older brother (who has medals from competing in gymnastics and was already collecting them in the junior competitions) once claimed that I was too rowdy of a child to have the composure and self-control for even a somersault, so I got into it to prove him wrong. I was six and quite petty. It started out that way, but I ended up liking it and did it for myself instead of for sibling rivalry. Arrogant older siblings can make great motivation.

AceassinOfTheMoon Teviran is a beautiful and diverse place, Aapeli (lovely name, by the way). The area I live and work is mostly natural forests and mountains, although I don't get to enjoy it much.

You'd have to talk to Avis or Kamea about that, Mr. Homer, they handle my scheduling. If you can manage to speak with them without getting arrested for all the trouble you've caused us lately, I'd be delighted to sit down and speak with you.

AceassinOfTheMoon @Liminality The city of Kinemourne, in the province of Caital, is where I live. My assistant often jokes that wherever my work laptop happens to be is my home, however.

@HarryHardy I'm not sure how much you can enjoy running a country. It's a job like any other. It's certainly stressful at times, but the satisfaction I get out of serving my people and watching my country flourish is like no other. I suppose it can be a chore, yes, but I also enjoy parts of it.

AceassinOfTheMoon It's... a little more complicated than that. I and three others make up the High Aristocracy, and those four positions are hereditary. The rest of the government officials are elected by the people, although formally the High Aristocracy chooses them. It's an odd system, and I've never come across one like it, but it works well for us.

WeepingWisteria I would not say they are exactly magical creatures, Pel. More like alternate species. I am an Ukayan myself, with no capacity for magic. Though, there are three other species other than humans, two of which have some sort of capacity for magic. As for responding to articles, occasionally that results in a article-based debate where we write and publish letters back and forth. Some would become an in-person debate, but that would defeat the whole point of a pseudonym.

And for Moonglade, (Is that a real name here? Tis very strange.) I write under a pseudonym for safety reasons. Technically speaking, my existence is sort of illegal.

WeepingWisteria The arson was a joke. Though, don't tell Cyra. He might actually do it. My mother named my sibling and me after members of the Roman pantheon: Saturn, the god of sowing and seed, and Neptune, the god of the sea. Castor was a member of the Greek mythos but had a name fit for London.

WeepingWisteria London is a reasonably large city. (I am assuming you have those at least), but it is technically a forest too. Mostly elms and poplar trees. It's divided into six districts: The so-called "Court District," the Mist, the Underground, the Graveyard, the Slums, and the Heart. I live in the Heart. For legal reasons, I haven't left the confines of my home in years, but the streets seem pretty lively. Nellie and Edwin, Neptune's and my foster parents, own a bakery with good business.

WeepingWisteria The Court District is where the Prime Minister and other aristocrats live. It's also a prevalent place of business if your enterprise has left you a millionaire. I've never been, but I imagine it can't be pleasant. As for the Mist, no one really knows what it's like. We know the people there are poor and people believe they're mostly theives or vandals. But we should all talk less about things we don't know anything about. As for whether or not I'm a criminal, that depends on who you ask. Technically speaking, the fact that I was born is illegal. Ukayans aren't welcome in London and any found living there must be reported to the Prime Minister. After that, the Ukayans disappear, and no one knows what happens to them.

WeepingWisteria Nellie and Edwin are excellent! They took me and my sibling, Neptune, when I was nine, and they were two. They're both human but incredibly understanding and very kind. Nellie taught me how to sew, and Edwin taught me how to dual wield pistols, both of which became my favourite hobbies. Despite her brashness and criminal record, they've been very welcoming towards my best friend, Cyra.

Spearmint Symbology involves channeling one's aura to summon projections of magical beings. In my case, those beings are origami cranes. Technically I can summon other animals, though birds are my default...
As for the fighting part, it can be quite annoying to have a whole flock of birds pecking at you. I've, um, learned that from experience. Heh.

Spearmint Oh! Sorry about that; I forget that not everyone is from Rupturia sometimes. Um. In our world, some people (called mages) are able to manipulate their auras, which are pretty much what we call people's magical abilities. The stronger one's aura, the more powerful one is. I'd recommend books like A History of Affinities or A Modern Mage's Guide to Auras, but I'm afraid they might not be readily accessible where you're from...

The Voidborn... *shudders* are not to be trifled with. They have an insatiable appetite for the magic in everything.

Spearmint Ooh, potions! I was hoping someone would ask that. So, potions are magical combinations of ingredients which can often be consumed. They can have a variety of effects, like changing one’s appearance, or assisting one in battle.
I love Potioncrafting— well, learning about it at least. I haven’t gotten much hands-on experience with it yet… My Aunt Sharyl recently gave me a neat potions recipe book, though, which I am definitely excited to read and reread!

Omni Ah! I see there is someone who thirsts for knowledge! That is always an admirable trait. Do not fret, young Aapeli, your remarks on your first impressions of me do not phase me; I am quite used to it by now.

As with most people, you all are interested in the Voidborn. Yes, understandable. Prospective student Aapeli describes them well enough (although you can always ask if you wish for more description) but, regarding what happens to a victim if they were to be devoured by a Voidborn? Well, what happens to anyone when they die?

But! This is not just a natural death. It is a death of one's soul, of one's magical aura. Ripped to threads and then consumed to be part of a nothingness. There are not many worse fates.

Spearmint In our world, magic originated from primordial concepts like chaos, fear, love, etc. All living beings have magic in some regard, but mages are the ones who can manipulate their magic to do their will. As for notable mages... Blumsworthy the Great was a famous Potioncrafter, and Alaskar Tinderful made notable advances in the field of Artificing.

And Katherine, alive is a tricky word. The cranes are magical, and thus animate, but I don't believe they need to breathe, or feel pain or anything. At least I hope not. Um. I suppose I'll learn more about my cranes and Symbology at Lux.

In truth it wasn't much of a war. The Tevirans had us impossibly outmatched. Natalia and I were in charge of things at that point and had little choice but to surrender. It saved a lot of lives, but--nothing's been quite the same since.

...Well now Natalia's giving me that look, soooo guess it's okay. We lead an underground resistance group trying to take our country back. There, I confessed. Natalia, if I for-real die, it's on you.

Natalia is an absolute thorn in my side sometimes. She can be as stubborn as I can and just as unapologetic, so we either work or we don't, but I think over the years, we've both come to respect each other and know each other pretty well. Probably better than anyone else does at this point...

Hm. I think they might be the same actually. Late into my 20s, early 30s. That was really a wild time. I married my wife then. As cliché as it sounds, that was the best part of my life. She was something very special. I lost her that same decade and that's... definitely been the hardest thing. The invasion had just started, our government collapsing around us--arrests of whatever officials the Tevirans deemed oppositional began on the night she died.

Liminality @Spearmint I've always noticed children hanging about when I do my experiments. That's probably why. And organization spells! Very useful for independent research.

Lyndira's an old-fashioned school. They like sending letters. Especially ones that give you papercuts. I haven't heard about any initiation. They're already very selective, so don't think there'd be any students left, if they had a trial by combat. All I know is there's an orientation, and I'm on my way there.

kaitlyn Ahh, classic, well I will keep an eye out for it! And ohh..that happens to be some very nifty technology know as an AuI, Authentic Intelligence. Simple stuff really, but I'm afraid not an enchantment. The enchantments that are on it are simply for weight reduction and general durability I'm afraid.

Hello fellow YWSers! I hope you've been having an amazing RP Month!

Today we're bringing back a couple of RP hashtags. You may remember these from Social Month or even the Camp NaNo in April. Here is how to participate:

1. #characterinterviews -- Write a wall post roleplaying as a character of yours (could be from an RP, a novel, a short story, etc.). Then other YWSers reply to the wall posts with questions for your character and then you roleplay answering them.

2. #ocforaday -- Spend a day saying everything on your wall or on other people's wall as your character. You can even change your avatar to a Picrew or equivalent picture of your character. First, write a wall post with this hash tag to let people know you're participating.

Important: Make sure to follow all the Roleplay Rules and the Official YWS Rules when roleplaying.
