For the pancake question, I suppose the only one I can think of right now is “Man with a Pan” xD. I have totally used it as my gaming username a few times. “Obi-Pan Kenobake”?

For MI, my favorite character is probably Ilsa. She’s such a wildcard that always makes the story more interesting from a plot perspective. As for my favorite movie, that would have to be Fallout. Action, tension, plot, twists, turns, characters and absolutely bonkers stunts. Fallout, personally, has everything I want out of an MI movie. A very close second is Ghost Protocol which does feature my favorite stunt in all of cinema (thanks Tom)

I’ve recently started writing a script for a short film. It’s historical fiction set in Baghdad (you can tell I’ve been playing too much Assassin’s Creed:Mirage). I’ve actually been putting off the idea for quite some time and reading some scripts to get a few ideas etc.

As for reading… As weird as this sounds… I do like reading Journal Articles (skim reading of course) that lie within Electrical/Control Engineering. It’s just interesting to learn what others have delved into great detail.

I do like me some poetry here and there but never caught onto it but I could never critique it per se. There’s tons of poems I read on this site but don’t leave a review simply because I struggle to articulate what made a poem work for me and what didn’t. Sometimes my reactions are just summarized as “aw that was cute”

As for your second question: I did a “what animal are you” quiz some years back and got a sloth… which I vehemently disagree with. I am not *that* lazy. However, I do think I’m an African Gray Parrot. They’re birds that require a strong bond with someone to let them into their space. They’re very shy (sometime hostile) towards strangers who get wayyy too close to them but they’re very friendly and affectionate from afar. Most importantly, they aren’t birds you can give mundane tasks to and expect them to be entertained. They need quite a bit of mental stimulation to exhibit healthy behavior and a very curious about their surroundings.

Also they somehow have a great sense of comedic timing even with their limited vocabulary xD

niteowl I'm not 100 percent sure, actually. I found it in 2005 or 2006? I think I was looking for cute/funny pictures to make my avatar (I'd used default YWS options up until that point), saw this and decided it was the height of comedy, and the rest is history.

Okay, so first of all, I really like pigs. That's why my username is Snoink... Sn-OINK. And I have always had a pig avvie, save for the brief times I've changed it to prank somebody, lol. They're adorable.

When I came to YWS, there were no stars! So I was there when Nate rolled out the star system for the very first time. At the time when he introduced the star system, the very highest you could get to was five red stars. Anyway, I was quite excited since I loved leveling up things and I wanted to earn the stars so badly. But then... I already had five red stars when the star system was introduced. I was a bit disappointed, to put it mildly. So Nate encouraged me to make more stars. So I used Photoshop and changed the colors a bit -- all the colors like lime and orange and aqua and purple were all made by me. And so, for a while, I eventually got closer to earning the top stars. And finally I maxed it... again. And promptly bugged Nate for more stars.

Anyway, he told me that he added one more stars thing -- the last stars thing that he would put down, since he was tired of me bugging him all the time to add more stars since I was the only one who was getting to the top. So I was like, "Okay, cool, what color?" But he wouldn't say anything and told me that I would have to find out. So I did more reviews of course... and then maxed out again...

Only to find that Nate didn't actually put more stars!

HE PUT PIGS.

And he did this because he knew how much I loved pigs and knew that I would never bug him about stars again, haha.

Anyway, that's why the highest star ranking is pigs. ^^

Q1: I actually avoided joining YWS at first because it was a forum, lol. I was an active member of TYWC at the time, which was a website, and this older member on TYWC named Nate kept on posting that TYWC was dead and to come join his website instead. But it was a forum! So I didn't really trust it because there were lots of random forums popping up at that time and the quality for forums in general was rather iffy in those days. Anyway, my TYWC friend, ShadowKnight, kept bugging me about it and finally he got me to officially join when he asked me to review a poem that he wrote... but it was on YWS... and you could only read literary works if you were a member. So that's when I eventually joined.

Q2: Five things? Oh goodness. My children have to count. I'm super proud of my husband. My taco recipe has to be another. My siblings are amazing people and I'm happy to be their sister. And my coffee making skills... I make excellent sweet treats for coffee that are just so sweet and amazing to the point where going out to coffee is a bit of a bit of a hassle since I make such amazing coffee at home.

@Rose>> I would make an amazing burrito to model my weird humor. It would be carnitas, because I love pigs and think they are funny, but also they are delicious, so... well... carnitas, lol. There would be some guacamole because I am a millennial and avocados are a must. There would be salsa, but pronounced as salza because that's how I pronounce it, that's not too spicy, but that's okay because it's rich and flavorful. There would be rice, because it needs to fill you up, but not too much. There would be beans, because sometimes potty humor is funny, and lettuce because you have to eat your greens somehow so might as well hide it in your burrito, and lots of sour cream because sour is sort of like sarcasm and I need that in my life. And lots of cheese because my jokes are horribly cheesy. Mix all those ingredients, put it in a soft tortilla, and there is my humor dish, haha.

Q1: I blame my husband for how cute my kids look, obviously. He is a handsome fellow. (Though, with that said, he would blame me for the kids being cute and call me a cutie, so there is a bit of an impasse there!)

Q2: Uh... this is going to sound crazy, but my characters mostly come to me. I'm not sure where they come from. They just... exist independently. I can identify parts of me in them, but also they are very much their own people. I am not sure how to explain it. It's weird. I sometimes find myself talking about writing my story with the pronouns "we" because I include them as their own people. >.>

Q3: The weirdest food combo that I had before? WELL. I lived in Japan for several months and that was just an adventure in different food, lol. Their pizzas there were wonderfully creative. Fridays are Fish Fridays at my house because I am obnoxiously Catholic, so we would go to this family friendly restaurant and eat various types of pizza... including this delicious seafood pizza with shrimp and clams and octopus... I think. I don't actually read or understand Japanese, so I was just picking out menu items using the pictures, lol. Still, the weirdest pizza that I ever had was at this one Temple area at this restaurant that overlooked Mt. Fuji. They had a bunch of "American food" available, including BLT Pizza. So I had to try it. It was literally pizza crust smeared with mayo with full size bacon strips, whole lettuce leaves, and tomato slices. I loved it, honestly.

BluesClues @alliyah tough call especially because we often opt for nontraditional Thanksgiving meals, but for classic dishes I'd have to say mashed potatoes.

I hope I'll publish books regularly but at a pace that doesn't burn me out, so like ideally I'd be publishing a book every 2-3 years? Theoretically more would be ideal from a financial and popularity perspective, but I don't have enough completed existing books to do that without writing and revising to completion at least one full book a year, which may be too many at this point in my life.

On one hand, much like with Edna, I think it'd be amazing to have a star-studded cast for Groundskeeper EXCEPT Peter and have him played by an unknown (preferably gay and Irish) actor. On the other hand, I think twenty-years-older Michael Sheen with an American accent would be a perfect David, in which case how can I envision anyone other than twenty-years-older David Tennant?

Liminality @Rose Oh that's an interesting question -- I think the superpower I'd like is to have perfect memory of all my plot, character and worldbuilding notes, so I don't have to keep backtracking or making continuity errors as I draft.

@Rinisha I don't think I'd choose tea over coffee, because I just prefer the flavour of coffee and also I like to have a quick burst of energy from my caffeinated beverage and the caffeine in tea tends to work more slowly.

Liminality @Dossereana Hmm, I don't really have a preference, but it is nice to read stories in an interesting fantasy setting every once in a while

@BluesClues When I was a teenager, I watched a video analysing the Studio Ghibli film "Spirited Away", and the person said something along the lines of 'Spirited Away is about liminality'. I looked up what the word meant on Wikipedia and I liked the meaning. So when I first signed up to YWS I chose 'Liminality' thinking it was fitting for a 'young' writer to use a word pertaining to transitional states.

I love the symbolism in the book, and he's one of my favorites representing practically the embodiment of being good, and I think it's interesting how they kill him at the peak of the boys' madness. I've got a lot of periods of history I'm interested in. The Holocaust, American Revolution, or even way back during the times of the Ancient Greeks and Romans because it was a period of such ART and SCIENCE and PHYSICS and everything was just gorgeous (their brutal customs aside heheh)

I'd give a TED talk about how awesome my pets are. Either that or the little I know of music theory.

@Rinisha, I'd NEVER watch the movie first (knowingly) without reading the book first because I like to imagine the characters and everything for myself and then see it brought to life. either that or judge it because it was brought to life terribly.

Lovely question, because there are lots of little weird things that have made me smile this week, one of them being the 'oh so amazing' smell and delicious taste of chocolate.

As for the second question, to be honest, if I just have something to snack on, that's more than enough for me. But most of the time crisps or chocolate biscuits will do just fine

First question: As a bookworm, I find it almost impossible to choose a favourite genre. If it's Harry Potter then it's fantasy, if it's Later by Stephen King or The Guest List by Lucy Foley then it's thrillers and mysteries. I can read anything at all, but it really depends on whether I enjoy reading it.
With writing it is basically the same thing, what interests me and what ideas I have in my head.

Second question; Ah, what an incredible question! There are so many wonderful fictional worlds, maybe it would be the wizarding world of Harry Potter, or maybe even the world of Count Drac in Hotel Transylvania (it's just so fantastic!).

Honestly, honestly, honestly, I really don't know. I mean, I could say the Green Room, 'cause there's a lot of fascinating new work to delve into, but then maybe I'd say the Randomosity forums, because they're so so much fun, I could also say the People page, because some great and hilarious wallposts could just make my day!

Second question: You know, sometimes I wonder what I am. Now that I think about it I suppose I'm not much of a cat person because I don't really like them, so I guess I'm more of a dog person.

Well... a rose is just a rose and a rose is so rose-like and a rose is so rose-ey and I like roses so... yeah, that's why I chose Rose

What am I proud of? Honestly, there are a lot of things, big and small, that I'm proud of. But if I were to talk about something YWS related, it would be the fact that I've made it this far on this site. My time here hasn't been that long, but I've learned a lot, met a lot of new incredible people, and my writing skills are improving all the time. I couldn't be more proud and grateful

What a lovely question. All flowers are unique and beautiful in their own way, and I suppose I have many, many flowers on my list of favourites, one of which is, as it turns out, you guessed it! Roses!

Next question, I think I have a preference, maybe the computer? Yes, it's the computer. Notebooks are for brainstorming, I just love making notes in notebooks!

And last question, quite an interesting and funny one. I mean, maybe? I honestly can't remember. But I suppose I would have laughed so hard I wouldn't remember! XD

-> I'm not always a good person; but when I am, I would say Matthew 5:16 is probably the biggest reason why. The world can be very dark + I hope I leave people with more light than dark in the very small ways I am able to. I hope God works through what I do - and encourages people beyond what I am able to.

-> Looking forward to? Thanksgiving week! I'm taking a week off of work and my family is coming to visit me for the first time since April.

-> I pronounce the first A like the first sound in "ought" which is also how I pronounce the first letter of my username. "Ah-lee-yuh"

Oh wonderful question - probably some Brian Crain & Ludovico Einaudi music - > powerful brooding piano instrumentals.

-> Outside of water, I am a big Gatorade drinker (yellow or blue) in the winter I also drink a lot of hot cocoa which lends itself well to writing.

Oh that would be a delight! I would balance on the top of a large tree, fly around, sing, chase other birds, land on a few people's heads because I'm curious what people would do if a bird would land on their head.

alliyah Ah! Good questions, good questions!

@OrabellaAvenue - eat the plants! though staring at the sun sounds more poetic. I have a few plants in my house to choose from.
-> I would want the super power of time travel!

@Rinisha - I've answered this a couple different times on YWS because people are often curious. I have always found birds and bugs to be particularly poetic. And I used to really love to draw birds as a kid - and even decorated my mom's whole office door with bird drawings at one point. I like chickens specifically because my childhood baby-sitter used to raise them when I was a little kid, and I would LOVE to see them and hold them etc. In college I also started a really goofy chicken emoji movement at my university that is kind of hard to explain - but I would print random pictures of the chicken emoji to miscellaneous printers around the campus with my extra printing money at the end of each semester and it became kind of a thing there. So those are some of the reasons! You might enjoy this article one and article two
On your second question -> I've never owned chickens, but used to have zebra finches.

@Carina - absolutely not! I suppose I would rather have cheetoh-dust on the fingers, and I'll have to wear gloves for the rest of my life.

@BluesClues - About a year old now, I think this is my favorite poem I've written how to begin to weave a basket it's one of the very few poems that I've actually shared with my family. And there are quite a few portions that resonate very deeply with me that I find myself thinking or saying - I have a song version too.
But most of all, I have found that poem personally impactful in how I think about death; which in my line of work I have to think about quite a bit. I'm not sure that the poem would particularly resonate with people who haven't grieved a death with lots of "loose-ends" but for me the poem gives me a sense of peace amidst the lack of closure in life's many "ends". Sometimes we write poems, and sometimes poems write us - > I feel like that is a poem that is writing me in the last few years. Long explanation, but there it is!
