Well, can you rap it in German? This is my new favourite thing that is created in the entire world.

  • I just finished reading Book 3 of 6 of The Lord of the Rings (1/2 of The Two Towers) and I suppose it's time to do what I've been procrastinating from: to list all the words I saved from reading and haven't posted. 😅 (Not all are from the book but the vast majority are.)

    WALL OF TEXT ahead! :
    Spoiler! :

    'muckrake' -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/muckrake
    'snick' -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/snick
    'swart' -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/swart
    'hillock' ('hill' word #1 ) -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/hillock
    'knoll' ('hill' word #2 ), 'knell' (used to be a synonym of 'knoll') -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/knoll ; https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/knell
    'gimlet' -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/gimlet
'malediction' -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/malediction -- This is so usable in fantasy prose. x3
    'execration' -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/execration
    'besom' -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/besom
    'garth' -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/garth -- It's so unexpectedly usable. 👀
    'hobble' -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/hobble
'louver' -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/louver -- A very French-looking word in an ocean of non-French-looking words that is LOTR. 👀
    'froward' -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/froward
'bivouac' -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/bivouac -- Wasn't expecting this to be in LOTR but it is. 👀
'canopy' -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/canopy -- Probably the most commonly known word here but I saved it 'cause I'd always lowkey liked the word.
'burg' -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/burg -- There is also a walled settlement in the game Outward that's named 'Berg' and I think I'd looked it up previously but never shared it.
    'wrack' ('wreck'/'ruins') -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/wrack
    'postern' -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/postern
    'shingle' -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/shingle
'fret' -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/fret -- Oh, this is commonly known too but look at all the different ways you can use it. 😲 I noted it 'cause Tolkien used it with water.
    'truant' -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/truant
'provender' (fancy word for 'food' like 'victuals'~, though of course words are never 100% interchangeable) -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/provender
    'flounder' -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/flounder
    'embrasure' -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/embrasure
'forsooth' ('indeed' but fancy~ and with doubt) -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/forsooth
'misconstrue' -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/misconstrue -- Knew this one but it's good to look up words you think you know just to be sure. :3
    'redress' -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/redress
'remonstrance' -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/remonstrance -- Saw this and really liked it xD but it's formal and quite specific so I probably will never get to use it.
    'rankle' -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/rankle
    'frond' -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/frond
'bracken' -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/bracken -- There's also a guy with the last name of 'Brackenbrook' in The Lord of the Rings Online, but I never looked it up.
    'wheedle' -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/wheedle
'hummock' ('hill' word #3 , but also 'hammock') -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/hummock
'thence' -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/thence -- Knew this one already but I'm sharing it.
    'elsewhither' ('elsewhere' but fancy :3) -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/elsewhither
    'decan' -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/decan
'blarney' -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/blarney -- I preferred 'blandishment' and posted that one last year, hehe.
    'germane' -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/germane
    'subdivide' -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/subdivide
'arpeggiate' -- https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/arpeggiate -- This and 'subdivide' were being used in chat in a music stream I was in. :3

And I probably lost a couple that I couldn't save 'cause they're not in the M-W app and I had to look them up separately and I closed the tab or something. :3 'elsewhither' is one that I looked up separately.

I want to both a)write poetry and b)work on NaNo plans but issue #1 ) I can't think of anything to write about and haven't been able to force words out and when I force myself to write poems they turn out horribly anyway and issue #2 )I just can't PlanMo right now. I really want to since this is the first year I'm old enough to do it, but I have this feeling that the only way I'll actually be able to write it is by pushing everything out all at once.

spottedpebble Haha it made my numbers hashtags. :P And I can't even figure out how to make stuff I want to be hashtags be hashtags.

  • You have two options to choose from.
Would you rather hang out with a character who...

    1. Would go on a hunted maze with you and pretend to be brave when really they are a scary cat and would probably run away and leave you (but laugh about it later on and apologize)

    2. would go to the movies to watch a scary iconic Halloween film so that you have someone to go to the movies with? (they buy popcorn and soda for the both of you)

GrHinds09 I would get to freaked out if I was left alone in a haunted maze too much anxiety :.( so definitely the second one

  • Spoiler! :
    Dear Sir Patrick,

I am Asexual. I am fortunate to have parents and siblings who are allies to the LGBTQ* Community.

Few words describe how intense platonic love is or it is discussed openly. Platonic love is about having a soulmate but in a non-romantic sense. The connection is an eternal love, one where the presence of one another is central to each person's well-being. Love is love. Even if the word is said as a kind gesture instead of using ‘Bye,’ it bears more weight and more thoughtfulness. And we all should love each other more than ever.

Every person, man, woman, old, young, gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans, queer, deserves kindness.

    Take care, love,

Postscript: I composed a similar letter and mailed it by the post to Mr. McKellen on March 5th. I am unsure why I felt compelled writing letters, but I did.

Postscript #2 : I quite enjoyed listening to your reading of Shakespeare’s sonnets. Speaking of Shakespeare’s Macbeth; through a direct line, King Duncan I (Crìonain) is my ancestor. (I’m still not sure if that is a good thing or not given that He was supposedly an ineffective and a weak ruler). -sheepish smile-

    Eh. Letter.

(Also from Melanie Martinez’s music video “Carousel”):

  • Because I am procrastinating from writing... #alphabetanswers #socialmonth

    Spoiler! :
Are you a morning or night person? Night, but by 3am I am slightly delirious, so even then I can't do night all the time, haha.

Biggest Pet Peeve: ...it is too early for me to answer this question, haha. (Narrator: it was afternoon...)

Collections? I have a GIANT pig collection. It is impressively big to the point where my husband is in Awe of it... and slightly overwhelmed by it too, haha. Apparently, when he asked my dad for permission to marry me, my dad looked at him and said, "Has she told you about the pig collection?" (Because when we met, most of my pigs had been boxed up and there were only a hundred or so out for display.) And Matthew was like, "Yeah, I know about her collection." And Dad said, "No, I mean THE COLLECTION." Anyway, after we got married and moved in with each other, he was unpacking box after box of pigs... and then he understood. XD

(Fortunately he loves me dearly, haha.)

Though, my kids don't actually know that my favorite animal is pigs because there are just so many of them that they just assume that pigs just... are everywhere. And it's a normal thing. One time, #2 asked me what my favorite animal was and I just looked at him incredulously. Then I told him to look around, since we were in the kitchen and there were literally dozens of pigs everywhere. So he looks around and he's like, "Yes, but what's your favorite animal?"

As Matthew said later about the incident, "A fish doesn't know it's in water."

Dream job: I am tempted to say writer, but I've actually written things for money and I do not actually like it, haha. I am tempted to say author, but I have an author platform and... the website exploded and I just. Can't. Deal with it. So... um... I guess I like to write novels in secret and not deal with the business side of it at all.

    (your go-to) Emoji: :)

Favorite YWS Work: ...I have been here almost 18 years, I have many favorites that stretch over DECADES, do not ask me this question please, thank you.

Greatest achievement: My kids are amazing.

Hardest part of the writing process: Writing is easy. Publishing it, on the other hand... ugh.

If you won the lottery, what would you do? I will never win the lottery because you have to buy lottery tickets and I refuse to do that. However, I wouldn't say anything to anyone, other than Matthew, and just invest it quietly. You would not know that I won the lottery.

So there's this magician that performs on this cruise line as an official entertainer. Most of the time, it's an okay gig, but during this one cruise through the Carribean, one of the guests made his job unbearable. The guy would come to every single one of his performances on the cruise, just to heckle him. After every trick -- and when I say every trick, I mean ever trick! -- the guy would shout, "I see how you did that!" And then reveal the secret behind the trick. The magician was furious, to put it mildly. But there was nothing that he could do since the guy was a guest, so he just tried to ignore it.

Anyway, a terrible accident happens and the boat sinks down into the ocean in a fiery blaze and there are basically no survivors... except for the magician and the heckler.

Worse yet, they are sharing the same lifeboat together.

The magician is determined not to talk with this man, and it appears that the heckler has no interest in talking with the magician. For three whole days, they float together on the ocean silently, not saying a word to each other.

Finally, on the fourth day, the heckler sighs. "All right, I give up. How did you make the boat disappear?"

Know a fun fact? Whales are mammals and nurse their young. But babies tend to latch and unlatch a lot when they are distracted, which begs the question... how do whales keep from diluting their milk?? Well, the answer is that their milk is suuuuuuper thick. It has the viscosity of toothpaste, in fact.

Last read: ...I actually don't remember. I try not to read too much while I am writing because I don't want to steal styles, lol. I think the last adult book I read was "The Stardust Thief" though I've been reading an incredible amount of children's books lately that blur together...

Main writing project: Right now, I'm working on a book called "The Last Conqueror," which I like to call Book 4 because it is literally the fourth book in my series.

Do you like... want a blurb for the book??? Or the series???? Or both????? (Hmmm ...I should write a blurb about the entire series for all the people who have no idea what I'm talking about when I write my posts, lol. Maybe I'll dink around and try to write a blurb and post it in the comments, haha.)

Note to your past self: You're actually going to fall in love with someone who loves you back and marry that person and have children. And also, by doing that, you are going to be in a much better position to write novels, weirdly enough. I know, right now you think that there is nobody in the world who can handle you and you think that it would probably be best to just write and rewrite your novel endlessly and that you don't need any distractions. But, TRUST ME. It's actually going to be fine.

One non-necessity you couldn't live without: My computer.

    Person you admire: Matthew. <3333

Question you'd like people to answer below: What year did you join YWS??? (Mine was 2005, I think.)

Reason to write: Because I have STORIES that need to be written, haha.

Sports: I am not very sportsy myself, but I do enjoy watching football and baseball occasionally and I used to go to a lot of basketball games.

Tag a YWSer that's a good writer: Uh... Only one? Like, I could tag all of y'all, hahah.

Okay, okay... @MaybeAndrew has a story that is on the shortlist for me to read, since it seems like a horror fantasy and I am INTRIGUED... so I'm going to tag him, haha. Like, the prologue literally starts off with a maiden happily going to be sacrificed to a monster, and I need to find out what happens next... like I said, it's on the list of things that I want to read. Though, I also write horror/fantasy so like... again, I don't want to steal his style, haha. I'm almost halfway with my last novel of the series though, so after that!!!

Ultimate color: The world needs all the colors it can get.

    Volunteer? Not now, thank you.

What are you working on? Like... writing projects??? I am writing The Last Conqueror! Like, other projects??? I am crocheting slipper socks for me, since my feet keep getting cold. Plus, I am considering making this for my aunt since she really likes Boxers and she survived her health ordeal and I am happy: https://blackstone-designs.com/free-pat ... t-pattern/

EXciting news: UM. I am about to become a landowner of some of the prettiest country in the world??? Like, we're living in the house, but we're about to get the deed now, so yayyy!

Your favorite unlikely combination: ...like, food combination? I don't know...

    Zombies? No.

starbean I joined YWS in 2020 I think

  • Hating group projects~
    Spoiler! :
Group of three and we had to submit some readings for the class to read before our presentation next week. I found a few, put them in our google doc (guess who created that), annotated a couple--and person #2 , who at least has said two words about our project unlike person #3 , submits, without checking with anyone first, 1) an old government doc, 2) a 65 page PDF, and 3) a link to a book. No, the professor did not accept "our" submission.
