  • Ummmmm. I feel hopelessly lost saying this but....... what IS 21in21?

BluesClues Hi rida! #21in21 is a writing challenge where participants try to write for 21 minutes a day each day of 2021. It's based on two older events, #20in20 and #15in15 .

What's different this year is this support group! Participants can join this club to create an accountability thread, join our community events, and get support and encouragement.

It's not too late to start if it sounds like something that would interest you! You can check out the FAQs thread in the club forums for more info. (At the bottom of the last page - normally I'd just link it for you, but I'm on mobile right now!)

rida Thanks! I’ll check it out. I’ve been a bit low on writing for some time now and fear I’m developing a writer’s block, but this might just break it!

  • Today's #20in20 is actually a throwback to #15in15 . I was digging through old pads (I basically used them as cloud storage for years since I often wrote from multiple computers) trying to find the inspo story for my maybe-NaNo (I found what appears to be a partial draft, but I'll have to check my old laptop to find the full story) when I found this gem of a poem that I don't think I ever published.

    Spoiler! :

Prompt: young lovers from your past turn after the first death, (gotta love that morbid random poetry prompt generator)

    I'm sorry for your loss
    is all anyone can say.
It sounds like a flute with one hole.

    Click-clack
The sound of her heels precedes her
taking me back to dance floors
and back seats and all the things I shouldn't be
thinking about at a time like this.

I heard about it from James and I just had to come.
    She declares her condolences,
hugging me just a little too tight.

    If you need anything...
Well a goddamn apology would be nice after 20 years,
but Sarah wouldn't want you to get under my skin
or my sheets for that matter.

Call me after she's in the ground.

  • Mea It's a fun little challenge to write 20 minutes every day because it's 2020! I remember there was also a #15in15 back in 2015.

Charm How cool! I've actually given myself the challenge of writing at least 30 mins at day on weekdays. Thanks for letting me know!

  • I'm trying to get back into the novel I took a hiatus on during the summer which rolled through this past semester. I figured that often I just jump in and try to immediately write a chapter, so maybe I should start trying to warm=up and get more comfortable writing. The thought process is that it's just like practice for a sport or a musical instrument: some practice every day in the basics will help in the overall eventually. So I've started writing for 15 minutes a day. It's more a stream of thought than it is writing prompts or short stories per se, although I might add a writing prompt section on once I'm more into the whole groove. Does anyone else do a similar thing? I know @niteowl has talked about this before with writing first thing in the morning.

niteowl Oh yeah I remember my experiment with the morning pages. I stopped doing it a long time ago, but I really like the idea of just writing for 15 minutes a day. Heck I did a whole hashtag thing for it called #15in15 back in 2015. Maybe we need to bring it back for 2020? #15in20 doesn't have quite the same ring to it though lol.

Messenger 20in20?? I wouldn't mind expanding my limits. What were the benefits and negatives of writing in the morning?

  • #TeaserTuesday (it's not even Tuesday but there's no rule so xD) (credits to @Rosendorn for introducing the hashtag)

Ilal's giving a message to their people with the help of their brother, Anam. Going from the previous part of the chapter, we're going to be introduced with Ilal's favourite civilization, Ilaeg (original name: Egali) as well as the grand library they are at. #hiddenentity

    *

Anam levitated from the roof to the front of the library. From mortal eyes, he was invisible - all the deities were. Ilal followed, staying beside him. They didn’t have to accompany their brother, but the place at which they was provided them a view of the library. Named Rof Itwah, it was the most important and beautiful library across Ilaeg.

PenguinAttack Actually, back in 2009 I believe the user Karsten invented TeaserTuesday! :D People like StellaThomas and Childofnowhere have been using the tag for ages! :D

I like your Teaser tho, it has some nice tension!

  • Okay. So. Some of you may remember #15in15 , where I challenged people to write 15 minutes a day every day in 2015. I...kind of failed at the awarding badges and stuff after a few months , but I still like the general idea so I've made a New's Year's resolution to write 10 minutes a day, every day. No badges or anything, since I literally came up with this yesterday, but I figured I'd share and if you want to use the hashtag #10aday, go right ahead.

My first #10aday was a long journal entry about my life and stuff. Hopefully I will push forward and get into more creative things. :)

  • Over the years, I'm sure I've written plenty of characters introduce themselves to each other, but this one might always be my favourite. There's just something about the directness of it, and the fact that it clashes with the history fic murder mystery m/m romance thing that's the rest of the story, that really fits the character.

ChildOfNowhere wrote:I watched him for a while, as he studiously stirred his tea and put the spoon aside, gave a glance to the milk and decided against it, and took the first sip.
“What about you?” I asked finally. He looked up over the rim of the cup.
“You can call me Clair,” he said. “I’m a time traveller.”

Because I felt like sharing? #15in15 sort of

  • I just felt like writing for something, so I did. It's completely random, utter nonsense. I don't even really know what's happening in it. But I'm still going to share it, because it reminds me of when everyone was doing #15in15 and that makes me feel nostalgic. :P

    Spoiler! :
The groom swayed back and forth at the altar, the music controlling him with every tap of the piano keys. The hundreds of guests, a sea of black and white flooding the church, were miles away to him. All that he saw was the music, all that he heard or felt was the music. The familiarness of the notes, and the strangeness of the tune; they anchored him there, held him in a trance. There was only the music, and the girl he loved. She danced in his mind, twirled behind his eyes, she stood beside him, swaying back and forth. Back and forth. The music was her, and she was in the music. Beautiful, calming, mysterious... gone.

Then the piano was silent, and the groom stopped swaying back and forth at the altar. And the bride in front of him. He hadn't noticed her arrive, she must have walked down the aisle somewhere between the second and third verse, while he was dancing with the music. But now she was here, and he felt her tense up as his sweaty hands almost glided right over her's. But they locked together; not like the music had latched onto him, not like the girl behind his eyes. But their grip held.

The groom let his eyes sink down to their hands, fingers weaved together like a net. Her skin was pale, cold like ice while his was fiery red and warm, too warm. Warm like a fire. She couldn't calm him, he needed the music. He needed it to anchor him down to the ground, to what was in the ground. To the girl in the music. She held him, but not in the trance he wanted, not in the way the music held him. Each touch of the piano key was a shot of electricity, it kept his heart beating. But it wasn't there, and the cold, white skin, those slender, bony fingers, they couldn't help him.

"If there is anyone here..." The groom couldn't recall when the priest had started the ceremony. Somewhere during the third verse, maybe, maybe only a second ago. Time didn't matter, not when it was all being taken from it, when it had already been taken from him. By the music, by the girl in the music. "Please speak now or forever hold your peace."

The groom felt the hands drop, the warmth seeping back to his fingers, the swaying beginning again. He felt his hair ignite, the fire flooding through his ears into his mind. The music played, just for a second. A sudden shock of energy through his heart, as if the piano player had hit a wrong note. Everyone was whispering, people were crying, the girl beside him was stiff as a pole.

The groom was going to faint, the ground was going to take him, embrace him as it had embraced her. But he knew it would let him go afterwards, he would be free afterwards. Because she was free now; she was standing there, clear as day at the entrance to the church, hundreds of eyes following her as she stepped forward. One foot at a time. Tap. Tap. One piano note. Tap. Tap. The lyrics to the song came to him slowly, one syllable at a time. I object. And then he fainted, but it didn't matter, because she caught him.

  • Hattable Or #16in16 :p
    Jan 12, 2016

  • "And minds aren't just thoughts; minds are fears and dreams and dreads and expectations, and they can hide the most enchanting or most dangerous of wonders. I do wish I could read them — but the magic of minds perhaps lies in the fact that they're an unreadable mess."

There, no romantic notions this time. #SiG #15in15

  • She could sense it in the weight of his hand and taste it on his lips. He pulled away without pulling away, without opening his eyes or letting her go, and she wanted to whisper his name and ask him what worried him. But the next moment someone shouted in joy and the guests applauded; and he was turning from her to face them, whatever thoughts he wouldn't share disappearing in a smile.

Because what's getting married without some arguable foreshadowing? (Fun fact is, this novel doesn't even have romance in its core. It just happens to be there as one of its many sidestories ._.) #15in15 #SiG

artybirdy Ooh, I'll definitely try it. I'm sure it'll motivate me to continue my #NaNo (somewhat). xD
    Thanks for clarifying it. :)
