Birthday Day

20 years ago, on November 14, 2004, YWS was born. Since then this community has inspired, taught, and encouraged countless writers to share their writing - some have even went on to be published, many have went on to be teachers, librarians, reporters, and community leaders, and others are making their mark in the world in their own way. We are thankful for each person who has made this community the wonderful place that it is and each person who has shared their writing with us. Today, we also offer a big thank you to @Nate for creating this little space on the internet for us to be part of.

Happy Birthday, YWS! And thank you to each of you for being YWS! Cheers to a new decade of writing, fun, community and friendship!

After a wonderful trial run of the "Young Vegetable Society" and much careful discernment among our mod staff - we have decided to stick with "Young Writers Society" and continue with the writing rather than vegetable focus.

Hi everyone! It's been a while since this matter has come up - but as a friendly reminder to all that on YWS we have an informal recommendation that users try to write two reviews for every work posted within a week of posting. So even if you have stored up 10,000 points from 50 reviews, if you post 2 new works in a given week, you are also encouraged to write 2 new reviews for every new work posted within that week. This is not a hard and fast rule, but helps our Green Room move forward as intended.

The moderator team is also working on formalizing the following standard going forward: no more than 5+ literary works may be posted by a user in a 24 hour period to give each work the best chance of clearing out of the Green Room and receiving two quality reviews within a reasonable time frame.

Well, what's Birthday Week without a little bit of chaos? It seems in midst of all the activities that because of the attention garnered to Tuddy from the Birthday Scavenger Hunt, our YWS Staff Lounge Pig has been lost in the Labyrinth! I have organized a search party to gather up clues with @alliyah heading it up. If you can find a golden goose, surely you can find a pig hidden somewhere around the site right?

YWSers, I need your help to find him. He is a very valuable and important pig, integral to moderating operations on YWS. Follow the tracks, gather the clues, and find where Tuddy has gone so we restore him to our Moderator Staff HQ.

(If you find where Tuddy is hidden, don't spoil the search for everyone else, just message alliyah with a screenshot of the pig so we know he's safe! The first user to send alliyah a screenshot of where Tuddy the pig is hidden will receive an award of 1000 points.)

Big Brother @LuminescentAnt - they're just readers, I do okay without them, but when I am doing work on YWS they are helpful for reading all the little text. I don't use YWS on mobile because the mods don't think I would be able to navigate a cell phone... My eye-doctor got me set up with them, and I think they do make me look more distinguished too right?

Hi everyone, with all the fun reviewing events happening right now this is a important message from your moderator team:

Do not use AI writing tools to generate the majority of your review. While these tools can be fun to experiment with for your own work and can even aid writers as a tool in generating creating prompts and ideas, representing these types of AI generated writing as your own is unfair to other reviewers and unfair to the authors who are hoping for human (or maybe goose?) feedback.

As a writing website, YWS exists to promote creative writing and the sharing of writing feedback between writers, representing AI generated writing as your own undermines those things, so it is important that we take this issue seriously. AI writing can be hard to spot, so we are relying on you as fellow writers and community members to act with honesty in representing your work and your reviews.

If a user is found to be using AI reviews those will be treated as both spam and plagiarism, the review may be removed along with the points earned from them, and the user may be banned from the site. Please reach out to a moderator if you have any questions or suspect that you have received an AI generated review.

Some great events lined up for the site - beginning June 1! Let's clear that Green Room!

The Great Tortoise Race begins tomorrow where you are encouraged to write 1 review every day of the month, and if you do so, you even get an awesome badge and join the Team Tortoise Victors Roster.

We also are beginning our Search for the Golden Goose | Clear the Green Room Challenge that runs until August 1. If we are victorious in clearing the Green Room this summer we'll unlock a Social Week and 3 days of free lit work posting! I don't think the Green Room has been cleared for several years, and will certainly take all hands on deck to accomplish - but with some of the all star reviewers I think we may be able to pull it off! Also if you'd like to join a Team to make that challenge even more fun, you can sign up Right Here.
