Surprise, I had some free time! So here's a completed (short) song project. I'm definitely trying to dial it back for myself starting from these, so hopefully it's better for everyone that way

TWST x NCT
I picked out songs from different NCT units for each dorm, as well as a couple that I thought really suited some characters. It was way too hard to pick if I limited myself to just one unit at a time (plus I haven’t and probably won’t ever listen to the entirety of their discographies, so there’s that).

1. Heartslabyul: “Life Is Still Going On” by NCT Dream
The lyrics about taking time to relax and have fun in a fast-paced world and the dainty musical motif just reminded me of Heartslabyul’s unbirthday parties.

2. Savanaclaw: “Mad Dog” by NCT 127
Both the more arrogant/tough sound of the song and the title of the song felt fitting for Savanaclaw, with their dorm culture and the sheer amount of beastmen they have. They don’t play by the rules and explosively show who they are to the rest of the world.

3. Octavinelle: “Regular – English Version” by NCT 127
Of course I had to pick this song about making money/being rich for Octavinelle, hahaha. Also, I really like the English version, so I picked that one.

4. Scarabia: “Magic Carpet Ride” by NCT 127
Well, the reason why I picked this one is also a no-brainer. Imagine this being the BGM of going on a late-night magic carpet right with Kalim.

5. Pomefiore: “Bad Alive” by WayV
Sound-wise, I feel like it suits an overblot. But at the same time, it also suits Pomefiore’s intense energy. The lyrics talking about luxury and being on another level from other people fits Vil well. “Thousand dollar shoes” gets me thinking about all that talk about Tènébres shoes in the game. This song could probably also be good for the NRC Tribe’s SDC performance—there are seven parts and all.

6. Ignihyde: “Glitch Mode” by NCT Dream
The sound of the song gave me some video game and technology vibes, which is good for Ignihyde. The imagery of glitching/freezing up in front of your crush reminded me of how Idia gets really nervous to talk to just about anyone in person, so I guess you could say he’s “on that glitch mode.”

7. Diasomnia: “Favorite (Vampire)” by NCT 127
The theme of this song is vampires and their ill-fated love, so what other song would be better for the long-lived fae of Diasomnia? Also, Lilia is a bat, so even better, right?
Note: I linked the music video instead of a lyric video because I couldn’t find one that I liked. The video has lyrics so just make sure it’s set to English! Also, I don’t want to make too big of a deal of it, but I’m gonna warn you that there’s a bit of a weird dance move at the beginning, so feel free to keep your eyes only on the lyrics for that part.

8. Outro: “Beautiful” by NCT 2021
This song is meant to encourage people to shine brightly, finding love for themselves and finding beauty in everyday life. It gives me a bit of musical vibes with the unison singing. Also, there are 23 members of NCT in total (though only 21 participated in this song), so it would be cool to envision that all 22 students in TWST could have a part to sing in a song together.

9. Kalim: “Face to Face” by WayV
When I evaluated this song, I felt like the lyrics are generally something that Kalim would say because they’re so sweet and meaningful, especially after the events of Chapter 4.

10. Malleus: “Walk you home” by NCT Dream
Malleus deserves a cute song, so here’s this one! It talks about walking the person you like home and not wanting it to end so soon, so it reminded me of Malleus’ interactions with MC outside of Ramshackle Dorm. I’m not trying to say he’s flirting or anything, but the interactions are just so wholesome and cute, and he’s so happy to have a friend who’s not afraid of him.

11. Wish Upon a Star: “Dream Launch” by WayV
Everything about this song just screams Wish Upon a Star event, so here we go! The imagery of the song is also about space and the stars—one of the lyrics even says, “Launching my dreams directly into the distant outer space,” so that sounds really familiar. Right, Ortho? The event is all about wishing and dreams waiting to be fulfilled, so I felt like the lyrics about tirelessly working towards achieving dreams/goals really matched well.

Oh oops, forgot to mention up for "Bad Alive" that when I picked that song, I mean *only* the CHINESE version, NOT the English version. Oh boy, I don't listen to that one.

TWST: English Cinematic/Pop Edition
English language (long) series incoming! Yep, there’s gonna be a few artists with more than one song—lots of props to them for making good songs. Funny enough, I found nearly all these songs/artists through either a Spotify or YouTube rabbit hole and I just thought they sounded good and/or had nice lyrics. I feel pretty satisfied about my picks for most of these, though some were hard to assign. Enjoy!

Part 1: Intro
“Freaks Like Us” by Sleeping Wolf
I felt like this one felt like a very appropriate “Welcome to the Villains’ World” with the new world, fantasy, adventure, and odd-ones-out sort of imagery. Also, TWST really sucked me in—I wasn’t expecting it to be that good, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Part 2: Heartslabyul
1. Intro: “Lemon Tree” by SVRCINA
The vibes of the song and the meaning of the lyrics really suited the dorm well. The delicate, almost vintage sounds match with the Alice in Wonderland concept. Meanwhile, the lyrics about staying calm and finding peace even in chaos definitely sounds like advice our Heartslabyul friends need (especially a certain somebody). Also, Riddle should totally just “add a little honey” to his lemon tea if he likes it better.

2. Riddle: “Time” by New Heights
When I was thinking of a song for Riddle, this one came to my mind pretty fast. I think it reflects how his life has revolved around achievement and perfection, without being given a chance to be himself, or to even just be a child. The more you increasingly focus on working at something joyless and tire yourself out, you may find that you don’t have anything truly worth it at the end of it.

3. Ace: “Rise Up” by Rayelle
I was a little stuck on what song to give Ace. But I think this one does fit him since he’s got his own way of doing things and seeing the world. He’s also got a lot of confidence in himself (even when it’s not always warranted, haha) and attitude as well.

4. Deuce: “No Matter What They Say” by SVRCINA
Underneath his unassuming exterior or first impression, Deuce has a fierce and loyal heart and he’s not afraid to fight for his friends. I believe he’s the kind of guy who would never leave anyone behind.

5. Cater: “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head” by B.J. Thomas
I will admit that the reason why I was first introduced to this song/started paying attention to it was because of Spider-Man and all the Bully Maguire memes, lol, but it’s actually pretty good. I don’t know what the real meaning/context of the song is supposed to be, but for Cater, I chose to interpret it in a way that you’re pretending to be carefree and happy when you’re really going through a hard time. Somebody give him a hug.

6. Trey: “There For You” by SVRCINA
I chose this song because Trey is such a big brother for everyone and a place they can go for comfort and support. You can tell he cares a lot for his friends and wants to help them shoulder their burdens. He’s just so reliable and all-around wonderful.

Part 3: Savanaclaw
1. Intro: “Stay Alive” by Hidden Citizens & REMMI
The imagery of wolves and lions does it for Savanaclaw already, but the whole “law of the jungle” and doing things to survive whether they may seem bad to others is quintessentially them. Also, if you’ve played Chapter 2, there might be some more significance.

2. Leona: “Vagabond” by Tommee Profitt & FJØRA
I chose to give Leona a super sad pick. Because he is the second-born prince of Sunset Savanna with no chance of ever becoming king and he resents how others seem to view him unfavorably in comparison to his older brother, it may feel like everything is pointless. He has nothing to truly call his own and he feels like he does not belong anywhere.

3. Jack: “Warrior (Stand Up)” by Hidden Citizens & Rayelle
This song reminds me of how tough Jack is, no matter what is thrown at him. Mainly, based on some of his voice lines and Leona’s Dorm SSR vignette, the other Savanaclaw students pick fights with him a lot because they feel threatened by him. I wanted to express how he would never surrender in a fight, never gives up, and always strives to surpass his best.

4. Ruggie: “Colors” by Stella Jang
I have to admit that it was hard to find a song for Ruggie, since there’s not a lot of songs I am familiar with that fit his themes/character traits. But I think that this one is quite decent. It could reflect how he adapts to any situation or can do any kind of job needed to make money or work towards a better future.

Part 4: Octavinelle
1. Intro: “Into the Deep” by Eurielle
I chose this because it’s kind of like a siren song, like the way the Octavinelle boys lure people in to make deals. The funny thing is that soon after I assigned this song for Octavinelle, I started imagining a memeish scenario where MC walks into the Mostro Lounge and right when the door opens the three are standing there singing this song, especially the latter half, with their hands outstretched, to which MC awkwardly (and a little afraid) stands there for a bit then backs out. Haha, it’s funny in my head, at least. Doooon’t you be afraiiiiiiid….

2. Azul: “Empire” by Beth Crowley
(Before I start, I just want to point out that this artist’s last name is Crowley, lol.) It was hard for me to pick Azul’s song, but I found this one and the lyrics really fit for me. The singer was inspired by Game of Thrones, it seems, but I feel like it fits with how Azul was looked down on when he was young and he is now kind of feared by the other NRC students because of how slick and sly he is, as well as how he is determined to become the biggest tycoon there is (lol) in Twisted Wonderland by any means.

3. Jade: “Here I Am” by Tommee Profitt & brooke
I’m pretty sure if you ever did something terrible to Jade, he would be the type of person to hunt you down and make you regret it. Of course, he’d do it all while keeping that pleasant and professional smile on his face.

4. Floyd: “Float” by Eric Nam
I feel like this song could represent Floyd vibes when he’s calm and in a good mood. It’s a summery and tropical sound. Floyd would probably say, “Koebi-chan, hurry up! Let’s go play.”

5. Leech brothers: “Bonnie & Clyde” by Yuqi
I thought this song was fitting for the Leech brothers because they are partners in crime, and they’ve got each other’s back for everything. They get what they want. I think in Jade’s or Floyd’s Dorm Uniform vignette, Jade says that he’s glad that he chose Floyd while they were still in their eggs. I don’t really want to think about the other possibilities of what was going on in that situation, but that little line by itself was really cute.

Break from Lael’s regularly scheduled programming to bring you these vibes~ I felt like this goes with TWST and maybe even with Book 6 coming out. This English version isn’t an official release but the lyrics were really good/fitting for the story. The Chinese version is nice too if you’re interested.

I had no idea “Phantom” would be that accurate to some of the Book 6 lore—

This song cover reminded me of Epel’s voice.
