Special Event Discussion

Lael

This thread is for talking about the special events that happen in TWST (example: Culinary Crucible, Camp Vargas).

Playing through the Halloween event right now (I'm currently working through Book 2) and I just gotta say, I thought that some of the main characters were menaces (*cough Ace cough Grim cough*) but the tourists take the cake for the title of "menace to society". I just can't fathom how people can be so rude, selfish, and purposely destructive, but I guess it isn't unrealistic.

I wonder if it'll turn out to be that something is causing them to act this way or if it just happens that this many uncivilized people came to NRC.

Halloween event Book 3 after-thoughts:

Well, I already knew this, based on Chapter 4, but I can conclude that NRC (or mainly Crowley) is corrupt, lol. I think that it would have been quite reasonable to have called the police soon after the Magicam Monsters started acting up, but appearances/reputation, right? I think what the MMs did (being extra rowdy, vandalism, harassment, and potentially trespassing) could definitely go the criminal route, and they could probably be sued as well for some of these. Also, posting themselves online blatantly breaking the rules/committing crimes?? It's sad that there really are people who do this in real life as well.

I was gonna draw a comparison to the main story but it got way too long for being in the wrong thread, so I'll link it here if you're interested:

Anyways, it kind of reminds me of my high school lol (not that I recall of any incident of someone doing extreme things that would require police intervention, I think my HS was pretty tame). I think they try to keep things quiet to maintain a high reputation.

Ahh sorry I meant Main Story's Chapter 4!! I gotta remember to be specific and say all the details...

Lael

So I just read the Scarabia chapters of Halloween event Book 4, and...

Just gonna spoiler it just in case someone who hasn't played Main Story Chapter 4 yet.
Spoiler! :
Did Jamil mind-control Kalim so his werewolf performance would be convincing?? His eyes looked like when Jamil was controlling him in the Main Story, plus the Scarabia kids seemed kind of confused by his behavior. Also, when his eyes changed back, he was like, "oh wait, are they already gone?" so that shows he didn't realize they had run already even though he most definitely should have. And the fact that the story kept emphasizing how Jamil didn't trust Kalim to pull off the scare, and Jamil really laid the compliments on thick at the end with that facial expression. Of course, it didn't straight-up say that Jamil used his signature spell, the way that they did for some of the other dorms like Heartslabyul and Savanaclaw, but hmm...

Oh boy, have I got some things to say about Endless Halloween Book 5 but I guess I should wait to finish the story before I go on a potential mini-rant . . . I don’t think my mind will be changed but I suppose I should see what other “explanations” there are for everything.

Okay, so I finally got some time to share my thoughts about Halloween II event after a good few months. :P I tried to keep it short but please excuse how it got a little rant-y, haha.

Spoiler! :

What Malleus did is inexcusable. Yes, he doesn't understand how humans feel about certain things and he really wanted to give the ghosts from far away a good time at NRC. But that doesn't make anything that he did acceptable. Not only did he make everyone believe that the kidnapped students were in danger, he deceived them on all other sorts of levels, too.

Although he wanted to make the experience of reaching the party a fun game for the rest of the students, surprise! NO, it is not fun to go into the unknown and believe that you are risking REAL danger and walking into a lion's den to try to save people you care about. It would have been much more fun, I imagine, if he actually EXPLAINED the whole thing to everyone and spelled out that there would be a game leading up to the party, in which some of the students could play a role as actors in the game.

But instead, not only did he not do that, he allowed the ghosts to possess the kidnapped students. I'm not fond of any concepts of possession to begin with. In this, the students were taken over against their will and I don't think they would agree to it. That is, therefore, violating those students. Like I said, the ghosts and the students could have played in a partnership as actors in the game instead of the students being knocked senseless and imprisoned/suppressed in their own bodies.

And then, Malleus and Lilia have the audacity to make excuses and blame the real victims, the students. OF COURSE they wouldn't know it was all meant to be fun and games, so they would assume the ghosts were out to hurt them and the kidnapped ones. So I think it's a rather reasonable response to attack without asking questions first. Maybe some of them wanted to ask questions after capturing/defeating a ghost? HMM.

Anyways, I think it is good to forgive M & L, but to act like they did nothing wrong is just weird. I'm not saying they should have been treated awfully, but it needed to be addressed that yes, they did things wrong and they should have done it differently.

For good notes, the Twistune at the end was super adorable (I loved Floyd sliding in with his "Yayyy!") and the story as a whole was very interesting and engaging, more so than Halloween I, though that was cute and wholesome.

Also, I thought it was so funny that all the teachers/staff were purposely having a Halloween party all by themselves at Sam's shop without Crowley and that's why they happened to be on campus after hours.

Little short thing from the New Year's Mystery Shop event:
WOW, who knew my man Sam here was not just the owner of the NRC shop, but he's a whole global business mogul with Mystery Shops all around Twisted Wonderland. :O He's just that rich and cool, huh? That being said, I wonder why his flagship store is at NRC then, when he could run business from a bigger store in a more populated place with more customers. I guess he likes NRC (wonder if he was a student there before--he'd probably be in Octavinelle if so).

I was weeping as much for him as her; we do sometimes pity creatures that have none of the feeling either for themselves or others.
