Words as tough as Leonidas!

If you’re reading this, you scurvy dog, you likely already enjoy history. Well, here’s your chance to shine in that area. The Historical Writers usergroup is running a writing contest on the main site of the Young Writers Society. It entails using the following quote as a prompt:

“These are the times that try men’s souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the confliict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives everything its value.”

Entrants, take an idea or phrase from that quote and write us a historical masterpiece (pre-1950 please). 500-5000 words. Deadline is October 26. So are you up to the challenge history buffs? Or will you go down like Napoleon at Waterloo?
