Chat rooms
YWS Chat has always been a popular place to hang out. But lately, people have been playing around with the create new rooms feature and it is starting to bug me.
First off, the rooms almost never make sense. Just now, one of the rooms is called “Nutritional Facts.” People frequently set up these new chat rooms with wacky names like “Larry the Llama” room, “Monkey Farts” or maybe “Help, I’m Being Held Hostage in a Chatroom” room.
Even worse, almost every room has nothing to do with the name of the room. Nutritional Facts doesn’t talk about nutrition, Larry the Llama isn’t a Llama, and how in the world does someone get held hostage in a chat room in the first place?
There are many ways to be completely random, without having to go that extra annoying step of creating a new room. You could just be random in the lounge itself.
As an added incentive, I will not flay anyone that is random in the lounge.

Amen, brother. I see that a lot in the chatroom and it makes me not even want to join in the lounge chat. Lol.

I totally agree. I visit the chat less and less these days because of it.

I don’t see any problem with. Different people have different conversation, so it makes sense that they should go into a seperate room - it makes it all less confusing, especially where there is a lot of people in the chat.
Being, um, ‘creative’ with room titles doesn’t hurt anyone, so I can’t imagine why you’d object to it.

I agree with Sureal. If you choose to avoid the chat because there’s more than one room, or one room has a … random title, that’s your business, but I dont personally see the problem. I’m fairly sure you’d be complaining just as much if they *didnt* use another room and instead messed up your chat with RPG and so on.
Oh, and I’m not sure that someone in the chat was actually responsible for the “Nutritional Facts” thing or the thing before that about bananas, since the Lounge itself actually changed titles rather than it being a new room. But then, I’m no expert. Is it possible for us to change the Lounge title or does Nate have to do it?

Not really. People create another room and everyone moves to it. I’ve looked in the chatroom and seen 5 people in “Nutrional Facts” and no-one in The Lounge. The Lounge never changes its name. It’s always there. So what’s the point in moving? It’s fairly anti-social.

Well if you’d actually logged in you’d have seen that you went straight to “Nutritional Facts” and that there was no “Lounge”, hence my question as to whether the Lounge changed could change its name.

The Lounge still exists, it just disappears when no-one is in it. It reappears as soon as someone else joins the chat. *Hence*, I’d join the chat and be in the Lounge, well everyone else was in the Nutritional Chat. Hence, anti-social. It’s nothing too bad, it just bugs me, in the same as Grif I suppose.

Agreed.
But I don’t mind people making separate rooms, it’s when they make different rooms with long, pointless names, then leave, and make another one…There is one person I know that randomly makes rooms, and it drives me up walls, but I won’t point anyone out. ^_^ I’ve made rooms before, too.
And, I must have missed the Nutritional Facts incident?

Look, Firestarter, ask Nate if you dont believe me. I swear, he changed the name of the actual Lounge. Twice. Scouts honour.
Anyway. I agree with Clau, it can get annoying when they just randomly make rooms and then leave and make another one, and so on. But most of the time I find people either have a good enough reason or made the room when there were a lot of people in the Lounge who have subsequently left or whatever. So yeah, I just dont see it as a big deal. **shrugs**

What annoyes me is that:
I waltz into the lounge as usual, cool as a cucumber with dressing on it, and I see that there is a very lonely room with just me in it and one or two others nearly bursting. I think to myself “If I didn’t move room then I’d be anti-social” so I try to enter one and either WHAM, a password blocker slaps me in the face, BORED, the room is deathly quiet or WHA? the people are talking about absurdities. Why not just have a nice big room for everyone, it may get crowded, but that’s never bothered me. If you want to talk to a particular person, use the private messenging.
Anyways I never saw the Lounge change name.

oh my gosh, it’s doing that to me also. It’s bugging me so much, cuz it was working just the other day, but now it’s not at all. What’s up with that?

lol so today i had my little cousin and she has this toy that we push her in and her feet can come out of the bottom and well i didn’t realize that and she was faced away from me and well like all of a sudden she went swoosh and turned around like really quick and it freaked the crap out of me lol
