@Zolen there's lots of reasons people start blogs. Usually it's a way to share your interests/passions and find people who are into the same things as you. It might be connected to a business you're starting or a project you're doing. Lots of people going abroad for a while use it to share what they're up to (way easier than emailing everybody). It could also help your career if it's related enough.
For me, I just have the rarely-updated YWS blog now. I've been contemplating starting a science blog, but I need to put wayyyy more thought into it before that happens.
"You do ill if you praise, but worse if you censure, what you do not understand." Leonardo Da Vinci
That is what the internet is for, often you can find plenty of places focused on what you are interested in, often with better results as few people are hunting around for random internet blogs. Businesses are usually discouraged from making blogs unless it is a extension of something they are already doing. Which is some project just as I said as a valid reason. If you are going abroad than why would you do anything beyond e-mail everyone? Does the internet need to know what your brand of pie look like? Do they need to know that you saved five euros on some purse? Often as far as careers unless you are a game developer, no they don't.
You want as few things as possible. often to make things easier employers google around for you, any stupid things you said or simply things they don't like can ruin your chances, if anything, you want to make it hard for them to find you online, the less you ramble online, the more you can control and balance for their opinion of you.
Forgive me I just find it strange that anyone would have a blog unless they have something substantial that would actually bring people around. Why would they care about some stranger on the internet unless that stranger is saying something offensive, or comically stupid?
Self quoting is the key to sounding wise and all knowing.
I'm one of the four percent with a writing blog. I used it to post my stories before I discovered YWS, and now I'm also using it to talk about my self-publishing experiences.
I have one personal blog which I abandoned long ago because my life isn't particularly interesting. I have three writing blogs: two are mainly about James McAvoy and one is mainly about Benedict Cumberbatch (who make up the 'BatchAvoy' in my YWS username).
I have several blogs that are not too deep onto the personal stuff.
* Tumblr- http://midnightreverence.tumblr.com/ This one is usually on my art drawings plus the hilarious photos. I rarely post WIP art there. * Twitter-https://twitter.com/Monstrocker Twitter is not much in my personal favor, to be honest. I usually post my favorite stuff in there.
