Haha, so Colly has failed a physics test because the physics department decided to make all the questions in variable form instead of using real numbers.
Fortunately, her wonderful physics teacher gives back points for test corrections. Please help?

Image

Here's this object going around in a circle on a string. When the string snaps, the object has speed Vo and the circular path has radius R and height h above the ground.

Determine the following. Express all answers in terms of h, Vo (that's initial velocity), and g.

1) Time required for object to hit ground.
2) Horizontal distance the object travels from the time the string breaks until it hits the ground.
3) Speed of the object just before it hits the ground. (All we're supposed to do here is write appropriate force equations.
4) Determine tension in the string just before it breaks. Express answer in terms of M (mass of object), R, Vo, and g.

As added incentive, I will give you a crit if you help me. :D

Next time, PM me so I can see the topic easier. A week has gone by and... nothing!

So yeah. I sort of did the problem. Mind you, I don't know if I got everything right -- remember, I failed a lot of my physics tests too! But hopefully, these ideas might put you on the right track of solving them.

I labeled it so that hopefully you would understand the thought process and everything -- forgive the crappy drawings. They help me... they might not help you. I don't know. :P

So here it goes!

And finally! The last post here! Remember, if you need any physics help, just PM me or something and show me your problems. ;)

And remember, take these answers with a grain of salt. I hope they're all right and they look fine to me, but I have made many mistakes before, as my physics teacher knows, so I wouldn't trust them entirely. :P

And if you have ANY questions whatsoever, please please PLEASE ask! My scrawls can be unreadable, and so any questions you have about my ramblings are very valid.

Anyway! The last answer!

I hope this helped. :)
