You realize women can be comforted in ways other than having a lover.
Men and women can be platonic friends. You can have a man not actually be all that interested in sex (in general), and the woman not having him as his type. Sometimes an emotional bond is such that lovers just... does not compute what so ever. Give them such an emotional bond.
You can also have a woman comfort her.
Just have the characters not be sexually attracted to each other. Rather simple.

Ink is blood. Paper is bandages. The wounded press books to their heart to know they're not alone.
I think the best thing to do is have them as friends. The hero can always comfort the heroine by being a good pal. With that, make sure there's no 'spark' that happens in between.
Since the conflict is the heroine's past, new experiences provided by the hero is a scenario we'll wait to see
