I might be doing a monologue from "How I Learned to Drive" for an audition, and when I read the monologue I keep on using a Texan accent. According to Wikipedia, the character I'm portraying grew up in rural Maryland; I live in the south, so that dialect is pretty much lost on me. :]

Can anyone from southern New England please give some insight?

I live in Maryland, It's kind of hard to describe my accent. I know we stretch out our Os alot like Hello for example I say hellOHW. But really it's alot like any other northern accent. I found a youtube video of a guy from Baltimore, he uses some cuss words in it. But he talks the same way I do.

Here's another example but it's a little bit too put on (to me) he does get the "hon" right though Maryland people say hon all the time.

Honestly most of the videos where people try to do the Maryland accent are WAY too put on and they sound ridiculous. Even though the first link I gave you isn't the most appropriate, his accent is real.

PM me if I can help you any.

PS I live in a suburb of Baltimore, so I'm probably telling you the Baltimore accent instead of the Maryland accent. They are basically the same. The second video is more of a Maryland accent but you can hear him try to put it on a bit. but like any accent it varies depending on where you live.
Yeah, Teachers are great.

Hey again,

I seached youtube some more and here's a really good video

If you listen to the guy talking in the background it's a good example.

If you have trouble understanding the maryland accent, you can just do the northern accent, which would work because not everyone from maryland has the accent.

Here is an interview with Maryland Delegate Roger Manno.

:D Okay I hope all this helped you out, also I know Day Tripper on this site is from Maryland and she's from another part of maryland so maybe she will be able to help you out since I only know the Baltimore/Maryland accent.
