I'm really interested in writing a screenplay, but my main experience is in novels. So, does anyone know any books or websites that give the basics on screenwriting?
This site is kind of interactive, but it'll definately help you out. Oh, yes, scouting the site for you it has a whole table of contents ranging from the story to the plot. And I give you the link: http://www.wayofthescreenwriter.com/
I think the best advice for screenwriting is to read screenplays! The formatting is fairly easy to pick up on (and programs like Celtx, which is awesome by the way, can do a lot of that for you). Just make sure that you're reading SCRIPTS, not TRANSCRIPTS because transcripts don't take into account any of the original scene description, background motivation/dialogue cues, etc. that you'd find in a designated screenplay.
