Hey, guys!

I'm just starting to really crack down on researching for my NaNo novel, which looks like it's going to be a lot of fun, but a lot of work. I know quite a few immigrants, but no one--native or foreign--who has been through the adoption system, and I'm always looking to hear more about the immigration/ESL experience. Besides the questions, I would love it if you would tell me any stories about your experiences. ^_^

- If you've been through the adoption system...

When children are orphaned, where do they stay while waiting for a foster family?
How long does it typically take for a foster child to find a permanent home? How is this process done?
What's the hardest thing for adopted/foster kids to adapt to?

- If you've been through/know the immigration system...

What's the weirdest thing about first coming to the United States?
With your culture, what aspect do they try to keep alive?
Did you have to take the citizenship exam with your parents? What sorts of things did you/they have to study up on?
What is transitioning into school like?

- If you've been through ESL...

Did they have an expert in your language, or did you go cold turkey?
Who did you meet in ESL?
What things did you learn first? How did you learn them?

I will be sure to send you cookies and critiques for responses. ^_^
Graffiti is the most passionate form of literature there is.

Erm, I'm a qualified ESL Tutor at college. When term starts again, I could interview one/or more of my students about stuff.

:P
Fraser: Stop stealing the blanket.
[Diefenbaker whines]
Fraser: You're an Arctic Wolf, for God's sake.
(Due South)

Hatter: Do I need a reason to help a pretty girl in a very wet dress? (Alice)
