In the fragmented twin cities of Montua and Verona, disease runs rampant. After the Flare of 2054, the atmosphere was completely destroyed, along with all the digital records built up by civilization over the years. With nothing but old relics from a past time, the survivors rebuilt what they once knew. But with the planet’s condition comes new dangers; the sun beats down through a virtually nonexistent atmosphere, scorching the skin of anyone who dares venture out during the day. Mutations of once-familiar illnesses turn anyone infected into mindless flesh-craving beasts, which stalk the streets at night. It’s a dangerous place for the young Juliet, even when she’s covered by the thumb of her overbearing father.
For Romeo, on the other hand, life is great. She lives in the floating city of Verona, hovering safely above Montua and all its crawling filth. She has food and shelter and everything she could ever need. It isn’t until she meets Juliet that she begins to wonder; why the separation? Why the fighting? They all have the same goal, after all—survival.
