If you've been reading the news, you'll know that there is a lot of bad blood between the people of England and their government.
Essentially, the government instituted a lot of cuts to public amenities and services. They reduced education subsidies, increases fees for a lot of things - your basic belt tightening to reduce the deficit. There were a lot of protests, many peaceful, around a month ago, but in the last couple of days it's escalated to a whole new level.
It started when Mark Duggan, a Tottenham resident, was shot (allegedly)by the police on Saturday night. Looters, thugs and gangs have taken to the streets in "protest". This is no political statement, they aren't really protesting anything. It's all gone bad and innocent people are being terrorized, their property damaged, buildings are even being set on fire.
Let's hope the cops clean up this mess and the perpetrators are brought to justice.

It's been pretty breathtaking to watch.

Interesting video that was only possible because it was live (listen to the whole thing):

Another video, of the sort of scum that's doing this. I heard the EDL is even getting involved, and I don't know whether to laugh or cry. At least there are the civilian patrols in Southall and Ealing that are doing good.

Thanks for sharing, it's just another of the many breathtaking, raw videos of the scene.

Hmm, my views on the riots are somewhat hostile. I don't believe they are done in a good light and I think the claims that they are disgust me. I admire the continual work of the police force and wish they'd be given less criticism of doing their duty. The most important thing is the safety and welfare of the families not involved, who have had to put up with this local, rather mindless, terror.
