He hoped Ky would be back soon. She was no protection, but at least she could see them, tell him where they were. What they were doing and saying. Or perhaps it was better not to know. Maybe he should try and forget what Ky could do, forget that ghosts existed. He'd be happier not knowing, wouldn't he?

She needed to figure out the basics before she went back to the office, though she mosied that way.
Was she going to tell him about Septimus?
Was she going to ask what he meant about Tomhas?
Was she going to admit that she could be hurt by the ghosts?
She didn't fucking know.

He downed the tea and poured himself more, watching the steam rise from Ky's cup. Then he rose and limped to his bookshelves, scanning the spines. If she didn't find anything then he ought to put a good effort in as well.

Ky pushed the door open and peered inside, doing a quick scan of the room despite herself before her gaze landed on Gaius. Good. At least Michael wasn't here. "Hey."

He limped back to his desk. "I took the liberty of having tea brought up to us. What did you find? You were gone a long time. Did you see any ghosts?"

“Oh… thank you…” she shut the door behind herself and locked it despite herself. “I’m not sure any of this is helpful but I found these. Figured we could start here.”

He studied the books. "Perhaps, perhaps." His eyes flicked up as she locked the door.

She noticed him notice and realized it was a mistake but didn’t acknowledge it. Instead she strode toward the desk. “So I think it…” how did she want to lead into that? Not like this. Hm. “I can make another trip if this is helpful.”

He looked over the spines of the books. "This is a fine start. What else did Liesel and Abel and the rest tell you? How does one get rid of the ghosts? How are they here?"

“They…” she sighed. “Think I should ask around and talk to more of the older ghosts. Apparently they’re more superstitious and if there’s a way to force any of the ghosts to move on then they may know. Or at least think they know.”

“Um…” she nodded. “They weren’t super helpful but did suggest that… also said that they could go through closed doors but not locked. So… there’s that.”
