I have a character who has multiple personality disorder. She developed them when she was very young (maybe around age 9). She was taken in at an early age by the government to be trained as an assassin/soldier, and went through a lot of torture in the process. Now, as for her other personalities, one was created as a way of fulfilling her repressed desires, since she's not one to take too many chances or walk over people. The next personality was created to deal with her job, specifically the killing part. This personality takes over when she has to kill or when being physically hurt, and is depicted as enjoying the deed.
I need help making this convincing instead of some "slap on trait". Does the way she developed them make sense? Is it possible for the person to be aware of the other personlaities, or the personalites to be aware of each other? Do you know of any side affects to the disorder other than shifting personalities? I'm doing research as well, but anything you could share would be great. Thanks.
